A handful of rock art depictions of sailing vessels believed to have been painted by South Africa’s indigenous San and Khoi populations reflect the contact between them and European mariners after the end of the fifteenth century.

This painting of a three-masted European sailing ship is known as the ‘Porterville Galleon’ and is located in the south-western Cape of South Africa. The masts, spars, rigging and bowsprit of the vessel are detailed in the painting, so the artist had clearly studied a European ship. However, three of the ship's flags are blowing left while the aft flag blows to the right, suggesting the artist was not necessarily familiar with the technology of sailing ships.

Thought to date to the period 1700-1750, the image is an important reminder of the first contact period between the pre-colonial populations of South Africa and the colonial maritime world of Europe.

Augusta Christine Feels best known for Augusta Savage was a black American sculptor associated with the Renaissance movement.
He was born on February 29 in Green Cove Springs, Florida (United States) and died on March 27 in New York at the age of 70.
Besides being a sculptor, she was also a teacher having instituted a generation of artists of international reputation. She was also a great activist for black civil rights, especially in the artistic world.
Augusta Savage did not have an easy childhood, since  she was a child she used to make small clay figures in general animals that were against her father's yedais. Doing so that every time his father found these figures he beat him because he believed that sculpture was a sinful practice, based on his interpretation of the Bible regarding the idolatry of images. After a few years, she and her family moved to another city where she carved an image of the Virgin Mary, which made her father regret, thus recognizing her daughter's talent.

In this post I will take the opportunity to talk a little about a choice that all students have to make in the 9th year in Portugal.
First of all, I think it is not the right age to do it because we are still very young and immature.
In some countries there is no such choice before we go to secondary school and I think it is the right decision because we have a lot more time to choose it and a lot more muteness and sure that this is the right choice.
I also take the opportunity to admit that if it were for me I would have changed countries at this stage so as not to have to make the choice anytime soon.
