Haley Scott DeMaria was on her way home from a swim meet when her bus hit ice on a bridge and the bus crashed. DeMaria was taken to the hospital and she could not feel her legs. The doctors thought that she would never walk again. She was determined to prove them wrong and walk for two of her teammates that died in the accident. A week later a church did a prayer for her and within an hour she wiggled her toes. During her recovery she had 5 surgeries.
