Proper posture is vital when sewing both by hand or with a machine. When operating the machine you should be seated on an adjustable chair that supports the middle part of the back. Tables should be at elbow’s height and have enough leg room. The back should rest on the back rest allowing the person operating the machine to seat at a ninety degrees angle. The head should not be too forward as this may strain the neck.

Hand sewing should always be carried out in good light. It can be done sitting on a bench or chair making sure that one leg is raised above the hip level to ensure that the work is close to the person in a way that does not make the back bend.
