He also led an expedition in 1540. Although he did not find any riches or gold he found the Zuni Native American settlement and captured it. Him and his men were the first Europeans to travel the Rio Grande. They found the Grand Canyon. They also visited the Pueblo villages and soon attacked them. His expedition continued to Texas and North Kansas. He heard of riches but never found them in his search. When he first met the Pueblo Indians they were peaceful but Coronado and his men fought with their villages and later made peace with them to get food. A while after he returned to New Galacia Mexico. The Spanish king was disappointed because Coronado wasn't able to find any gold or silver. He then was accused of mistreating Native Americans but the charges were dropped afterward.
