         <title>Russo-Japanese War</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Happened in the beginning of the 1900's (1904) and was the first modern victory of an Asian empire defeating an European empire. Ended in Russian defeat and Japanese victory. Showed how Japan dominated after their modernization and industrialization. Russian defeat led to the start of the Russian Revolution and started internal conflict within the government of Russia and its support from its people. Led to a shift in power dynamics between Asia and Europe.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>After "Bloody Sunday" massacre Russians protested the Tsar's government style harshly and particpated in strikes, uprisings, revolts, and mutinies. In October of 1905, Tsar Nicholas issued the October Manifesto which allowed elections in Russia and created a newly elected parliment. However, social democrats did not like the manifesto and created harsher movements which led to an extreme uprising in Moscow.</p>]]></description>

However, did not have the resources to fight in the war which led to internal tension and loss and shortages within Russia. Also led to the discontent with Tsar Nicholas II and his inevitable downfall.</p>]]></description>

Created the establishment of a provisional government after protest, uprisings, and strikes due to Tsar Nicholas's rule and his style of government. Ended all Tsar rule and it began the rise of the Bolsheviks.</p>]]></description>

Inspired communist movements throughout the world and as soon as Lenin came fully into power he pulled Russia out of WWI.</p>]]></description>

Was a direct effect of the Bolshevik's want to end Russia's involvement in WWI. Allowed Germany to focus on the western side of Europe, led to the Russian Civil War.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>A two party conflict that lasted from 1917 to 1923 after the Russian Revolution. It was between the Bolsheviks and the anti-Bolshevik forces. Included widespread violence and a social upheaval that led to the creation of the Soviet Union as a global superpower. Began after the October Revolution due to many people disliking the Bolshevik's government and policies they enforced. One of the deadliest conflicts in history killing 7-12 million people. The Bolsheviks became victorious and led a communist state. The Red Army led by Leon Trotsky organized and mobilized their army making it extremely powerful and being able to control Russia.</p>]]></description>

The NEP became an extremely important part of fixing the economy and gained support from the lower-classes and were upset with the policies of communism.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Joseph Stalin rose to power in the late 1920's and ruled until 1953 when he died. Stalin became popular within the Bolshevik party and even robbed banks to help fund the party. He also served as commissar of Nationalities in Lenin's first government. Eventually grew to have control over party appointments and used his powers to control the party. When Lenin died, he manipulated Lenin's testament to maintain his power. He got rid of the NEP and industrialized Russia instead, he initiated collectiviztion of agriculture and even purged his opponents to have complete control.</p>]]></description>

Highlighted the harshness of ultimate rule and Stalin used this strategy as a way to make people fear him and control the populace of the Soviet Union.</p>]]></description>
