Factor: Entrepreneurship
Wolfe Herd was a cofounder at Tinder, where she came up with the name of the app and spearheaded its push on college campuses, according to a 2015 profile by Business Insider's Alyson Shontell. Herd and her fellow cofounder and direct manager, Justin Mateen, dated on and off throughout 2013 until, she said, he became "verbally controlling and abusive." She was eventually forced to resign from Tinder and said in 2015 that she was "erased from the company's history." Herd filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Tinder and its parent company, IAC, eventually settling for more than $1 million, plus stock in Tinder. In spite of her experience at Tinder, Wolfe Herd wasn't looking to build another dating app — she wanted to build an Instagram competitor where people could only post positive comments.

Factor: Labor
Wolfe Herd had met (now cofounder) Andreev while she was working at Tinder. In the aftermath of her lawsuit, Andreev sent her a note of encouragement and asked to meet. Though Wolf was originally planning to make an "Instagram"-inspired app for women to post positive comments towards each other, Andreev convinced her to work on another dating app that would eventually compete with Tinder. Along with two former Tinder employees — cofounder Chris Gulzcynski and former vice president of design Sarah Mick — they launched Bumble in December 2014.

Factor: Capital
Cofounder Andreev made an initial investment of $10 million and became the majority owner with a 79% stake. Wolfe Herd became CEO with a 20% stake in Bumble. Herd also contributed her earnings of the legal battle at tinder (roughly $1 million) to the startup of this business. With this agreement, Herd gained access to Andreev's dating app’s software. Wolfe Herd’s marketing genius helped elevate Bumble and within a month after its launch, Bumble had been downloaded 100,000 times. They also put the money towards software engineer/coding intellect to create prototypes of their application accessible to mobile devices.

Factor: Capital
Bumble built their new headquarters in Austin Texas, making it a point to be a far cry from the typical tech company offices found in Silicon Valley. In Whitney Wolfe's eyes, this is exactly what she was trying to do. She hired all female interior designers and architects to create the space and stay true to her "women empowerment" advocacy. At these headquarters, software engineers and coders were brought together to continue innovating the technology of "Bumble". Sales people were also included in the atmosphere to continue their reach into the public world.

Factor: Entrepreneurship
Part of Wolfe's vision for that brand was to take Bumble beyond the realm of dating. Wolfe Herd didn’t want the company to be just a women-centric version of Tinder; she wanted Bumble to be a platform for meeting every type of person you might want in your life. In 2016, the company launched Bumble BFF, which allowed people to use the app to make platonic friendships.
