         <title>1938- Kristallnacht: Nazis riot, destroying Jewish neighborhoods (Emily)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>November 9-10, 1938, became known as Kristallnacht which means "Night of broken glass." Nazis attacked Jewish homes, businesses, and synagogues across Germany, Austria, and recently  occupied  Sudetenland. Allegedly the attacks were spontaneous as a reaction to the assassination of a Nazi official by a Jewish teenager. Violence was encouraged during these attacks. Around 100 Jews were killed and a number were injured during these attacks. Around 30,000 were arrested. </p>]]></description>

From that point on, Japan was largely on the defensive in the Pacific, while the Allies began a strategy of “island hopping” toward Japan.</p>]]></description>
