Before this semester ends, I would like to thank you, Ma'am Redzh, for making our college life more challenging and productive. I know most of us really had a hard time dealing with the tasks, activities and stuffs that we need to comply with every course we have with you. We struggled because the tasks are unfamiliar and new to us so we really need to work hard to accomplish those before due time. We also had a hard time managing our schedule as a daughter, as a student and as a sibling so sometimes we can't submit our works and outputs on time. Nevertheless, I'm still grateful because you mold us to be a responsible student and to be a better version of ourselves especially in honing our abilities and capabilities to be a creative, resourceful and effective educators in the future.Thank you for sharing us your knowledge and experiences to teach us and somehow introduce us the field that we are aiming to be experts with. Aside from Dr. KC Tejada, Sir Jess Mendoza, and Dr. Bryan Manalo, you're one of the most outstanding and honorable professor I've always been and always be looking up to.
I'm so blessed to be part of the class that all of you has taught and shared moments with. All of the things you have taught us, the ups and downs we shared as a class, the rollercoaster ride of emotions we had in your class from the very beginning until now and the one of a kind of relationship we had, virtual or not will always have a special place in my mind, heart and life. I will treasure them and value them as long as I live. Thank you so much ma'am for filling a huge part of my college life. You're one of the great teacher I've ever had. I'll continue to include your health, safety and happiness in my prayers. I hope you'll be able to reach out, teach and mold more students who are aiming to be the best version of themselves in the field of education as you do, in the future. Thank you so much Ma'am Redzh! You're the best! May God shower us more joy, blessings and peace. We love you!

Best,
Zye Merza
BSED ENG 3201

This semester really tested everyone's different aspects, so yaaa it was never easy. As this day have come, I was able to have a time to reflect a bit as I look back to a few weeks and months that have passed. Few weeks and months that really consumed and pushed me to my limits. Since March, I have this difficulty of doing my best everyday. There are days that I don't wanna get up and attend classes. Then, there are days that I have this high energy and being simultaneuous to do a lot of stuff. So, you see there's inconsistency of how I've been. But as I reflect this day, I am thankful that I was able to submit the tasks I've never imagined that I could. Today, my only concern is my exams, 1 group task in another major subject and thesis. I am really hoping that I/we could make it too. Today, I am in a 50/50 again ahahaha, I can't stop myself to doubt and worry for 50% and there's this 50% that I can this day, that I can do what I have to this day and claiming to end this day productively.
Anyway, I really learned a lot this sem. It was never easy but I am thankful and grateful for what I have learned and realized. 💖 Sana kayanin ko pa talaga lalo sa mga susunod hahaha.

To Ms. Redzh:
Thank you for being one of the best. You're one of the professors I've ever had that really inspires me. I always look up to you because you're really smart and cool. Because of this course as well, and previous courses I appreciated also how you use technology and alowing me/us to appreciate it in teaching. Because of you, I learned to explore on different applications, to not be afraid to learn on my own. That's why also this year, I even wanted to be more independent even in school works hahaha. But, I really hope one day, I could be innovative, creative and successful just like you. I am also hopeful that someday, I'd be able to inspire students like you and be able to showcase this heart on this profession that we took. Even, we're not really officially called teachers yet, I even realized how hard really it is to be one and even you have a lot of responsibilities too, still you managed and showed to us that you're one of the teachers who really have this heart for teaching so thank you Ma'am! I'd be really really hoping that one day that I could make them feel what you make us felt too. Praying for your happiness, good health and to more things/achievements in life that you deserve. Thanks Ms. Redzh!💖

To all friends of mine:
Thanks a lot for pushing me that I could, for listening to my rants and making me believe that I really could, that I'm never alone with this battle that I'm facing.

And to BSED ENGLISH 3201:
Manifesting for another successful and productive year for us, few months to go, 4th year na talaga tayo 🤞🤞🤞.May we all treasure all of our good and bad experiences we've had and not lose the chances in our everyday to be good and do better. For now, Good luck and God Bless for our upcoming exams and final defense!🤗

Technology Application Reflective Essay

REFLECTIVE ESSAY

For so many years, we have seen how education evolved for various countries across the world. From the contents of the lesson, to the emerging new subjects introduced to students, up until the styles and modes of teaching and learning. As a student, I have seen it evolve, back from when I was in elementary, until now that I am almost graduating college. All of these changes that happened in the education sector were so that we also become accustomed and competent to the ever changing education.

After the pandemic first struck, we as students have witnessed how the changes have been implemented. Changes such as leaving the classroom setting and conditioning ourselves to be used to having classes virtually. Aside from using technology as references for school works, this was the first time I have ever experienced utilizing technology as the new norm in education, wherein I use technology for everything I do in tackling each year in the university. I have witnessed a lot of new things to me such as having a university email, a virtual classroom, a virtual meeting with multiple people included, digitized schoolworks such as creating websites and E-Portfolios, and a lot more to mention. To give an example, I will refer to my teacher, Ms. Regina. She, out of all the teachers I have come to encounter, has demonstrated and utilized technology in teaching more than any teacher I have. According to Busy Teacher, there are 10 modern ways to use technology in teaching ESL, and apparently these ways turned out to be the most used as per the author’s findings. It said that the modern ways of teaching ESL are the following: 1) Applications; 2) Blogs; 3) Film and Video; 4) PenPals; 5) Podcasts; 6) Online Games; 7) Web Quests; 8) Skype; 9) Digital Field Trips; and 10) Other Resources. Out of these 10 ways to teach English, I have seen that Ms. Regina uses five of these ways to teach us her subject. Not only can one adopt an existing material to teach English, with so many ways and tools that one can access, students and teachers can also create their own original materials.

English can now be fun when taught with user-friendly tools. Students crave interactive games as a way to learn, and surprisingly enough, there are lots to choose from. Not only are there published websites that introduce online games as a way to learn English, there are also existing applications that let people, such as students, learn English way before the emergence of online games: one example would be Hangman. But from experience as a college student, I have tried to practice English Language through sites such as Quizziz and Kahoot.

As a pre-service teacher, I have utilized technology as a way to create all my instructional materials, as much as I have used it for English lessons for my demo's. I have also used technology to complete thesis studies. I must note that even though a pandemic didn't exist at this very moment, it is still timely that the Philippines be introduced to using technology as a medium for teaching. The reason is it has opened doors to new opportunities for new ways of teaching and learning. In and out of the classroom, technology has become an integral aspect of the learning process. Technology is used in almost every language class. Language learning has benefited from the usage of technology. Teachers can adjust classroom activities using technology, which improves the language learning process. According to a study made by Ahmadi M. (2017), technology is becoming increasingly important as a tool to assist teachers in facilitating language acquisition for their students. In a way, technology application became a complementary tool to help teachers deliver lessons and materials efficiently and effectively.

Technology has turned students into actively learners by slowly transitioning from pen and paper learning to keyboard and mouse. Though, the traditional way of learning English is still applicable to this date. From an article from Cambridge University Press, when technology is 'invisible,' accessible, and simple to use, it is frequently used effectively. (Sharma 2021) We still have yet to know a lot about how we can use technology for language teaching and learning. A time will come when its emergence make people such as teacher and students aware of the ropes when using technology for education.

sources:
BusyTeacher.org. (n.d.). Busy Teacher. In this time of pandemic, we learn how to cope up on the new technologies that are going out. Instead of having face to face classes, we do online classes to provide the education needs of our student. In able to have the solution on how we can start classes though we have COVID-19, we had the solution by keeping up technology in our lives. We can that it is so much better to use technology in this time of pandemic to have the education that we need instead of having academic freeze.

There are many uses of technology in English Class. As an English student, I can verbally say that if we don’t have technology we can’t have this kind of knowledge. In our everyday English class, we are having online class through google meet and google classroom, that is because of technology. Aside from that, one of our professors give us a task to have a demo teaching using some technology application. And that time, I realize how necessary technology is. While I am doing my demo teaching, I can say that technology has a big part to English Class. It is a need that everyone must learn how to use it. English Class is fun with technology.

While we are having our English Class with Ma’am Rej, I always feel amaze on how technology goes. That is how technology can affect one class, students are being enjoyed and at the same they learn. Technology proved that English Class can also be interesting all the time.

Technology is defined by Carl Mitcham as “the making and using of artifacts”. It is a continuous cycle of building and utilizing knowledge. Although most people boxed the idea of technology as a mere “entertainment” or ``Science-related”, technology has been known as part of scholastic activities particularly English language classes. But the question is, how is technology used in English classes?

According to the busyteacher.org, there are 10 modern ways to use technology in ESL classrooms so let us take a look at some of these strategies. First, Film and Video Using short and feature-length videos is an engaging way to work on skills like vocabulary and comprehension. Despite the fact that we are against the short attention span that the learners developed through learning materials that are quick and only require little attention, we could not deny that video clips work just as great in learning the English language. Film on the other hand is a considerable substitute for reading long novels that could be understood in just 2-3hrs of watching films. Second is Apps or applications. Apps on the student’s devices are very convenient and fun to use. Some of these apps that help in English language learning are duolingo– a web/mobile app where users can practice vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation using spaced repetition. Exercises can include written translation, reading and speaking comprehension, and short stories. Another example is Quiz your English, it is a fun new way to practice, improve, and test your English by competing against learners from all around the world.

Third way of using technology in English language learning is Podcasts, it is a digital audio file made available on the internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically. One of the theories of English language acquisition is the theory of interaction by Bruner(1960). This theory emphasizes the interaction between children and their care-givers, in this case the podcasters serve as care-givers to guide the learning process of the listeners without noticing it. Podcasts are also available on spotify, just subscribe to a good speaker that talks about the English language and topics that you like. It is like a whole class discussion in the palm of your hand. The students can also create their own podcast if they want to, in this way they can practice their English speaking skills and develop their knowledge.

Fourth is Online Games Students can master spelling, grammar and other English skills by playing games on the computer or mobile devices. The teacher can also incorporate their lessons through these games. What a fun and exciting way to learn a new lesson by just playing and enjoying interactive graphics of the games.

Lastly, Skype/GMeet there are more platforms with the same function but these two are the most popular. These are telecommunications applications best known for VoIP-based videotelephony, videoconferencing and voice calls. It also has instant messaging, file transfer, debit-based calls to landline and mobile telephones, and other features. These applications could help the students to communicate and hold their lessons wherever they are and whenever they want.

There is an unending possibility of how technology can be used in English language classes, with that we should strive to explore and not limit our knowledge about technology.

SOURCES:

Aerisham.

Technology has been our companion since time immemorial. In education and teaching, technology has become our bestfriend. Through this course, I was able to appreciate technology and learn to utilize it in language teaching. I never thought I'd be able to become this techy since I've always thought that it's hard and complicated but through the efforts of Ms. Redzh, I was able to discover my creative side in technology application in teaching. Had she not been my prof, I don't know if I will ever learn everything she has taught us on my own or from other profs the same cool way. Prior to this course, Ms. Redzh has been my prof in previous courses and I can say that she really prepared us for this. Gradually, she introduced technology to us. Admittedly, beginnings are always rocky but it gets better. I remember during our first year, we were reluctant in using edmodo during exams but we had no choice hahaha. She's our only prof who does that and I am grateful because a year after, a global pandemic struck us and everyone has to shift to distance learning. It has become our advantage since we have experienced what online class looks like even before the pandemic. Today, I have adjusted fine to the new set-up or should I say the new normal. As a future teacher, this course has helped me in ways that I've never imagined. It has equipped me to become innovative and creative teacher. Now, Im confident that I have enough arsenal of strategies in teaching. Since high school, I've always dreamed of becoming a cool teacher that brings a lot in the table, a teacher that has a lot to offer and will not run out of ideas to make learning fun, engaging and unique. To inspire creativity to the students. Thankfully, this course was made exactly to address that and luckily, I believe I had the best prof in the field or should I say, the expert. Exactly just like this where I am typing my reflective essay at the moment, it's very Ms.Redzh, creative, unique and new. Given the light to learn the best ways to utilize technology in teaching, I also appreciate that we were also taught how to combat its disadvantages. Truly, this course has been one of the most helpful, fun, useful and challenging at the same time. I will surely bring everything I have learned here with me in the succeeding years.

To everyone I've been with in this journey so far, thank you. What a tough academic year. It has been a roller coaster ride indeed. I would also like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to our soon Dr. Redzh. My heart is beyond grateful. Just like all of you, I am excited to reach the finish line. For now, I wish everyone's success in thesis/dissertation and other endeavors. God bless everyone!

As a 3rd year student of Batangas State University, I'm just new when using the applications that we use today. As a student who grew up in the mountains here in Mindoro, I am really just a beginner in these fields. Now that our generation is new, there are many technologies that are coming out and innovative tools that are truly available not only to students. Most students who are able to study English major with the help of technologies even without using internet, as long as there is a gadget that is available. And I am already one of that student. Here with us in mindoro as long as you have a gadget you can study. The only real problem here is the signal, even in the mountains where you live the signal is still not good. I remember once my aunt who was a teacher in Manila came home, she is a science major. She asked me "aren't you having trouble with the signal here with us? That is the reason why I don't want to go home here because of the the signal." I just told her that I can still study even though I'm very drained because of the signal and the electricity here, I can still use my cellphone to ask for updates from classmates with whom I have contact. The use of technology in English classes helps children learn their lesson more easily. With technology, especially in the English language class, children become more interested in listening and learning the English language.

CHARACTER SKETCH
I'm one of those people who can be said to be very shy on the outside, but very active when the company is with the people you know in yourself that you are happy and comfortable. The eldest of the siblings so what I'm going through now is very difficult. It’s all up to you all the responsibility. Eldest daughter, tired of everything. When the parents have a fight, you are always in the middle because you are the eldest, you are the only one who understands because the siblings are still minors. Now that the pandemic has started, that's where everyone is suffering especially me as a student. You are at home but all the responsibility is yours. Brothers and sisters, the household chores, your businesses and especially your studies. I can say that the impact of this pandemic on me has been unhappy. I experienced stress and anxiety here. Every day there is a lot of thinking, and at night you cry because of so many activities that you do not know what and which to start.

I am a happy person. The type that even though there are too many problems, you can hide it just because your personality is happy. I don't eat vegetables. Since I was really young, I haven't eaten vegetables because they taste bad for me. My passion is to sing and dance. Many people tell me that I am very talented because I already know how to sing and then I also know how to dance. I have no interest in sports, my only interest is watching sports. I also like to watch kdrama. By watching kdrama I forget my problems here at home. Now that I’m in college, I like what my classmates call me. They call me "moana" because of my brown skin color and my curly hair that really looks like moana. One time during our face to face class, I was called for our individual front presentation. That's when we rap a rap that our professor memorizes for us so that we can get used to speaking English fast. He saw me and then he said "you look like an artist" I was surprised because I look like an artist. He told our whole class that I look like zendaya. Then it just so happened that he couldn't pronounce my name zhainnah properly, so he said he would just call me zendaya. And just cute and heart fattening. This 3rd year, is the most difficult for me. It just so happened that my mom went to school again and then my youngest brother also started school. And I have a brother who is doing modules. I'm the one who takes care of their school activities and then I keep mine. So I really got to the point where I was losing weight, not eating properly and right on time, which was stressful to me. All these experiences I have until now I have not told my parents. And why would I? I can't open up to them because I know in myself that they do not care. There was a time when I was taking an online class, I was doing laundry while I watched my brother eat. My parents both have jobs so as a eldest I have the responsibility of everything. I got to the point of 2nd sem and then I thought I had stopped studying, I just couldn't tell my parents. I am having a hard time with my situation. Especially here in our area there is always no electricity and also no proper signal.

Now I’m sorting out the requirements that I didn’t pass before. I'm just really thankful and I can still pass on activities that haven't been done. Until this day, I still struggle with stress and anxiety. I don't want to check up because I'm scared, so I'd rather not tell them. I said at first that I was a shy person. So I'd rather keep my problems at my self than tell others, that I know they're not really interested. I’m very happy that even though I struggle a lot this year I still handle everything. I’m thankful and I also admire myself. Why? because I have tried to commit suicide several times. It's like this activity just got me out of my problem.

TECHNOLOGY APPLICATION IN LANGUAGE TEACHING - Reflective Essay

Pauline C. Maristela
BSED-English 3201

Technology has been an integral part of living in this generation. As we strive for a more innovative way of living in general, we also deem to integrate technology, in teaching and learning in all subjects. Technology as seen by Levinson (2013) is much bigger and more complex than a single device or site. Specifically, in teaching language to our students, there are a variety of platforms and technological tools that teachers can maximize, in a fun and engaging way.

According to Sharma (2021), integrating technology in the teaching of language will be successful if the technology the teacher will use is accessible and easy to use by the students. In his journal, he shared that in helping students listen, read, write, and speak the language, there are some applications and programs that can be used. For instance, in assessing how the students listen to the language, Sharma suggested using youtube videos as references, specifically he recommended the videos of TED.com. Also, in reading, when presenting a report or an activity, instead of using the usual PPT, students can utilize the interactive application such as Kahoot. Google slide deck is also a win for presentations. In writing, on the other hand, Sharma suggested using the Padlet which encourages the students to write on the board and collaborate with other students. He also added that technology can help students in a variety of ways when it comes to learning the language.

There are actually a pool of technological tools that teachers and students can use to aid in teaching and learning the language. Some of my own favorite applications and programs to use in my demo teaching are the Kahoot, Quizziz, Nearpod, and Mentimeter. I’ve also learned a lot of websites that can help me in making teaching materials, which I am thankful for. I get to have different options on where I can do my assignments and projects as well. Even in managing the tasks, technology helped me best.

Other than online programs, computers/tablets and e-readers are very useful in learning language (BusyTeacher.org). We have to admit that time will come that our students will no longer rely on their pen and paper, and teachers will no longer use blackboards. Our era is for advanced technology, thus the practice of teaching the language should be integrative to technology.

References:

Sharma, P. S.

First of all I would like to thank God for all the blessings, guidance and wisdom that he had provided me all throughout my college journey until now as a 3rd year student. Thank you to my family who are always there providing me with love and care, for the encouragement and support they give me when I am at my lowest, when I’m depressed and doubtful of myself if I can still continue my studies and when I am not sure if I am worthy. Thank you to all of our professors who have taught us many things not only about our courses but also for sharing their life experiences and advice to us on how to be an effective and a better future educator but also a better person. Thank you as well to our adviser Sir Jess Mendoza, one of my favorite professors, for being an understanding professor as well as an adviser and having an enjoyable class session. We learned a lot from you Sir.

Special thanks as well for Ma’am Redzh, my most favorite professor, who had been accompanying us from the start of our college journey as a class adviser or sometimes being our prof. in many different courses each semester and now our professor in Campus Journalism and Technological Application. Ma’am thank you very much for being our role model and introducing us to many technological applications, websites, and also instructional materials that are very helpful for us as a feature educators who will be using them when we become professional teachers to become productive, effective and proficient when teaching. You have taught us how to make our teachings enjoyable while the students are learning with the use of the various technological applications, websites, instructional materials and platforms that are very educational and will ensure that students will learn when we integrate it with our teachings. We have learned how important and how vital the role of technological applications is in our everyday lives not only as students but also as teachers.

When I first started my journey as a college student I was introduced to a variety of technological applications that are usually used in our class activities and sessions, of course being someone who came from the province of Occidental Mindoro I lack the knowledge of how to use and for what are these technological applications are used for and I struggled and get confused since in High School we are not trained or very much introduced on how to use these kind of applications, what we usually use are the powerpoint presentation and the google docs which shows how advance and big the gap of the learning environment we recieve of that from the cities than the provinces. The impact of the realization of how important and vital the role it plays in my studies and everyday life makes me realize that I must learn how to apply and use them specially when the pandemic comes. It plays a big role for our long distance learning in the safety of our homes. We use Google Meet on our online classes to have our class discussions and have interactions and do activities just like having face-to-face but on virtual platforms. We use Google Classrooms to serve as our virtual class room for the different courses where the teachers post instructional materials or class resources, to post assignments, quizzes, activities, projects and major exams. The Google Docs for the type written activities. The Google Slides and Jamboard for creating a creative presentation or doing our group or individual activities and have collaborations. Google calendars that serve to remind us of the schedule of our classes or deadlines of activities or school events. Nearpod, Quizziz, Edpuzzle for the evaluations and quizzes of our learnings. Google forms for evaluation, examinations, feedback, activities and other purposes. There are lots of other technological applications that are introduced and to serve to help us in a productive, interactive, collaborative way to better our learning environments even if we don’t have face-to-face classes. This is how important and vital the role and use and integration of these technological applications are in our education.
