Vitamin D is synthesized through the body by first starting as rays omitted by the sun in which the skin absorbs. Then vitamin eventually seeps into the bloodstream and from there ends up in our kidneys and liver. After it passes through the vital organs, it ends up in the bones and that produces bone cells. Vitamin D is the only vitamin known to reproduce by itself while in the body.

There is a correlation between skin cancer and the amount of melanin in the skin. Melanin functions as a boradband ultraviolet absorbent and has antioxidants. Repetitive UV exposure increased pigmentation and skin thickness. Skin cancer is indicating that highly pigmented skin is profoundly protected from carcinogensis. Given that UVA damage is largely thought to occur via oxidative mechanism this may account got a positive role for UVA in melanoma induction.

There is a correlation between vitamin D deficiency and the amount of melanin in the skin. Melanin builds up as protection against the sun when it senses it. The sun provides vitamin D so if the body lacks sun, it lacks vitamin D, which means that a larger amount of melanin is not needed at the moment. I can personally attest to this being true because my skin tone changes based on the amount of sun I receive from time to time. My skin is usually lighter in the winter because less sun is peeking through.
