Compare & Contrast the difference in the two ways NASA landed rovers on Mars. What do you notice that was different? Why do you think they had to change the design? Share your thoughts below.

One of the machines had a balloon or metal balls attached and when it dropped, it bounced, and then stopped. The other one had really big wheels and had to fly a little bit sideways to land safely.I think they had to change the design because the first one was just not safe enough.

Curiosity and the first rover both had parachutes. Another similarity is that both rovers had these huge jets that hovered and blasted out air.
One difference was that Curiosity landed without bouncing. The other rover bounced quite a few times. I think they had to change the design because they wanted to improve their design and make it better. That's the last step in the Design Process.

Both of the rovers had parachutes and a "lens cap" that came off. They also both had jets that hovered above. But the 2004 rover was encased in a balloon or a metal ball confinement so the jets could touch down closer and drop the rover ball down and leave it bouncing along Mars. The other had a much more precise process and it seemed so much more careful than the 2004 version, so I believe they kept working until that came to conclusion, and I believe they will keep working until it is safer.

They were the same at first, with the parachute, the lens cap and the jets that came from the bottom. But they were also different, because one had wheels and was made of metal and the other one was made of balloons and floated and bounced a couple of times before it stayed on mars. With the one with balloons, I think they were trying to make it so it wouldn't crash as hard on to land as it would with the other one. The other one was not as safe and crashed to the ground harder and the other one was safer and had a better landing.
