Virtual School Learning MOU:
State changed laws for independent learning, laws changed this year only, plan for next year:

This year we had Virtual Learning Academy
The District is going to offer a K-5 Virtual Learning Program for next year (MOU settled), and some form for 6-8 next year (MOU not settled yet). It will look very similar to what we had this year. Students assigned to a teacher for 3 hours a day, then small group, ELD, 1:1 etc. The members day is the same length as all teachers. Combo classes, etc.

MDEA has said we should keep a permanent Virtual Learning Academy, but it's only for 1 year. MDEA is requesting to keep it permanently, but District wants to do year by year, and may terminate the program.

Could have multiple grade levels in the same Virtual classroom. 14 teachers this year, thinking only 5 or 6 next year, potentially one per grade level, but several may be combos.

If a combo has 3 levels, that teacher gets paid 120%. 4 grade levels is forbidden.

No, the District will NOT require students to make a decision whether they want virtual or not. They can switch around and go in it, or come back out of it.

9-12 Independent Study Hybridization MOU
Some high school kids want to take a harder class at a brick & mortar school. District Teachers CAN be assigned an in-person class which counts for a 0.2 class. MOU settled.

Enrichment and Support MOU
PE Teachers eliminated, instead creating E&S teachers. Last year, bargained an MOU for the E&S teachers. They said it's only going to be a "pilot year" because they planned to cut 4/5 preps. But, we were able to save them, so 4-5 teachers will still have E&S teachers to give 4-5 that extra prep.

No extra money for 5th grade teachers administering PE testing. Need to bargain next year to get materials needed

Unfair Labor Practice Update
Refusing to follow agreement to move over on the pay schedule by taking college credits of our choice. Graduate level classes, we do NOT need approval. Lower level courses do need to be approved.

MDEA issued a complaint in our case with PERB, they looked at our charge and said it's something they should weigh in on. They are saying it's properly before them, and if we can prove it, and the District cannot disprove it, we will win.

Let MDEA know if it happens in the fall, no more grievances about college courses not being granted in May unless not a district employee last fall. If this affects you, please talk to me.
