Natural means that it is found in nature and it has not been changed or there has been nothing added to it. An example of a natural material would be plants. Synthetic means that it is a natural material that has been modified or something has been added to it by humans. For example, plastic is a synthetic material.

All synthetic materials are made from natural materials. A natural material becomes synthetic once something has been changed in it or if something was added to it. For example crude oil is a natural material and it can be used to make plastic which is a synthetic material.

In my artistic piece I drew the steps crude oil has to go trough in order to make synthetic materials. First, dead zooplankton, plankton, and algae have to go trough intense natural heat and pressure and after many years it will become crude oil. After that the crude oil goes to oil refineries and there is when it can make synthetic materials. In the second step I put a picture of a gas crude oil makes and that gas can be put into propane tanks. The other two steps are the materials crude oil can make. In step three I drew that crude oil can make petrol which is used as gas, and crude oil can also make naptha. In step four I drew that naptha can make a plastic called polystyrene which makes water bottles.

The pros of synthetic diamonds are that getting synthetic diamonds does not harm the environment unlike natural diamonds. Another pro would be that since synthetic diamonds are much less rarer than natural diamonds the price of a synthetic diamond is 20% to 40% less than natural diamonds. Also, another pro of a synthetic diamond is that the diamond is not going to have any natural imperfections. In my opinion the only con synthetic diamonds have is that synthetic diamonds are less special and it does not have the same value as a natural diamond.

Synthetic materials affect society in a good way by demonstrating that human made materials are now improving so we can now start using natural materials in a better way. People might now want to use more synthetic things and people are going to know that they will both will do the same thing.
