a hot, 92°F summer morning. The emergency call came in at 9:45 am. A man contacted the police to report that he was worried about his next door neighbor, a woman named Anna Garcia. He informed the police that he had spoken to Anna the previous morning when he saw her walking her dog around 6:30 am. He noted that she was wearing a sweater even though they were currently experiencing a heat wave. He decided to call the police this morning because Anna’s dog had been barking excitedly for the last two hours (which is extremely unusual in this normally quiet suburban neighborhood). He tried to call Anna on the telephone, but no one answered. Next he tried ringing her doorbell, but there was no answer. The 911 operator notified the local police and the emergency medical technicians (EMT). Both the police and the EMT arrived at the scene at 9:56 am. The front door had to be broken down. Upon entering the house, they found Anna nowhere in sight. It was a comfortable 73˚F inside the house. The dog was sitting on the couch in the living room. He had blood on his paws but did not appear to be injured. The office area was in complete disarray. There was a large puddle of blood on the floor. Several bloody foot prints as well as bloody dog prints. The police immediately notified your team of crime scene investigators who were dispatched to the house.

The hair found belonged to Lucy Leffingwell. The finger prints belonged to Alex Garcia. The footprint Doug Green. Heroin and aspirin were both found at the scene. Evidence of possibly multiple people were found at the scene. The blood is the most inconscient piece of evidence since it could belong to Anna Garcia or Doug Green.

Patient’s Name: | Age: | Date:
Anna Garcia | 37 | May 14th
Height: | Weight: | Temperature:
5’4” | 158 lbs | 98.7°F
Blood Pressure: | Pulse: | Respiration Rate:
140/72 | 98 bpm | 22 bpm
Chief ComplaintAnna is a 37 year old Hispanic woman with both Type 1 diabetes and sickle cell disease who was referred to a cardiologist for a full cardiac evaluation after two incidents of self-resolved chest pain. Anna is a non-smoker who admits to eating a diet high in both calories and fat. Anna consumes three glasses of wine each day after work. Anna used to be an athlete, but has not kept up with formalized exercise. Anna takes a daily aspirin and does do a Yoga home video as needed to help her deal with the stress of her illnesses and her job. Anna has a family history of early heart disease as well as uncontrolled hypertension. Her father had a heart attack when he was only 41 years old. Patient was evaluated by physical exam, blood work, cardiac stress test with electrocardiogram (EKG), and an echocardiogram. Results later prompted an angiogram. Laboratory AnalysisCBC results are normal – no abnormalities in red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets. Full cholesterol panelTotal Cholesterol – 389 mg/dLLDL – 243 mg/dLHDL – 60 mg/dLTriglycerides – 145 mg/dLFasting blood sugar – 85 mg/dLHemoglobin A1c – 7.1% Findings/Diagnosis - Her ldl levels were quite high Genetic Analysis Given that the normal cholesterol level is >100 and hers was 389 it indicates that she was very unhealthy and at a state of alarm. Her cholesterol levels are almost 300 over the normal cholesterol level. In that state she is at a very high risk of stroke, or heart attack. She will develop heart problems if she stays in that state. RecommendationsShe needs to quickly change her diet or get on medications to lower her cholesterol, she should stay hospitalized until she is stable.
