This time it took her ages to settle down and start working being a ADHD and suffering from dyslexia. Her results were far from good this time. She needed to read and write so she had to sit on the chair suposingly quietly but she kept moving all the time. I thought how to assess her work and provide feedback this time in a positive way. Actually, there was nothing to praise her for. Every thing she did was wrong. I didn’t want to lie. Perhaps the only thing which could have gone even a bit -not much- worse, was her behaviour. She I said: Anna, I saw you trying hard but there was hardly any correct answer today. But you were sitting PRETTY still. And her response was striking: yes, I was trying hard. Lesson I learnt: While We practising English, she was also doing another practice eg sitting still. That took so much of her energy that she could not perform well in English. On the top of that, her effort was not visible. I was happy to keep calm and praise the real performance instead of explaining how much better she should do. He found me on a website and contacted me. We’ve started lessons right after the demo lesson. I’ve gone through writing examples on ielts website and this gave him an idea how to start or how not to start somehow. As he read more examples, he developed a conscious about what he should write to get over 6.0. We’ve had 22 sessions in a month. He took the exam in March 21’ in Istanbul. His writing was 7.0! He was shocked by this score. But he really deserved it. He did over 60 example essays during our prep time. He texted me today when I shared my story from IATEFL. He said he’s a student at UCL and he wanted to buy me a dinner when I get back to London.That’s what a teacher wants I guess. Not the free dinner of course lol.
