Roosevelt's Administration Overall

Theodore Roosevelt put forward a new excitement and power to the Presidency. He vigorously brought progressive reforms and a strong foreign policy among Congress and the American public. TR thought the ideal government should be the greater authority of the economic force conflicts in the nation. This would assure justice to each and show favors to none. Roosevelt forced the dissolution of a great railroad merging into the Northwest. TR became known as a “trust buster.” He turned the United States into an active world of politics. One of his sayings was, "Speak softly and carry a big stick." This applied to foreign policy; international negotiation was backed by the threat of force (the Navy). Theodore also ensured the building of the Panama Canal during his time as President. His corollary to the Monroe Doctrine prevented the formation of foreign bases in the Caribbean and gave the United States the right to intervene in Latin America. During his administration, Roosevelt won a Nobel Peace Prize for arbitrating the Russo-Japanese War, came to a Gentleman's Agreement about immigrants with Japan, and sent out the Great White Fleet to show the American power.

- Theodore Roosevelt developed the "Square Deal." This was a domestic program formed around three C's: control of corporations, conservation of natural resources, and consumer protection.
- TR tried to protect the middle and working class by dissolving many monopolistic corporations and regulating railroad rates.
- He passed the Pure Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act to form a higher quality of regulation of food production and labeling.
- After supporting the secession of Panama from Columbia in 1903, Roosevelt clinched U.S. control of construction on the Panama Canal.
- He allowed the U.S. to have a part in international policy power and keep the smaller countries on their feet by the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine.

The greatest disappointment of TR was his dishonorable discharging the entire regiment of the Twenty-fifth Infantry, consisting of 167 colored soldiers, after a so-called riot in Brownsville, Texas, in 1906. His rush to judgement without allowing a single soldier to testify and saying the riot was started by white racists, disturbed many of his supporters.

One of the Greatest Presidents in U.S. History?

I believe Theodore Roosevelt could be one of the greatest U.S. Presidents because he was a "go-get-er." TR made sure the people, Congress, and America was working hard to become what, at the time, was better. He did this by passing many beneficial acts for health and business, supporting the Navy, and working towards making the United States the world power. Personally, I think he was one of the greatest because he cared for the environment. He added enormously to the national forests, started the Wildlife Refugee system, reserved lands for public use, and contributed to great irrigation projects. Roosevelt was involved with the things he set out to do as President instead of watching other people make his goals occur.
