Stories and Changemaking

Stories are very much connected to the human psyche. While data appeals to logos, stories can appeal to all three. We have seen the ideas presented in this video throughout humankind, for example, scary wives tales made to keep kids from going into the woods. In this day and age, stories from one side of the world can reach the other side of the world in an instant, so thinking about how stories affect others is more crucial than ever. As someone who consumes so much media in my day to day life, I have seen and felt the effects of stories.

It provided a Socratic sort of explanation that highlighted what was the reasoning behind each larger point.

I loved the "Consume, curate, and create actively across contexts" point, as I think this is the most important aspect of literacy.

I liked the river game and bad news because the graphic design is cool. The concepts of all of the games are neat. I like the idea of gamifying media literacy, as it is an important skill to develop. I had a difficult time understanding how to play fakey, and the timer on the newsfeed defenders was frustrating as I am not a patient person.

Overall, I was content with how my Tech Demo went. I believe I presented a solid amount of information, while also allowing my classmates to explore the information for themselves through their own trials. My classmates seemed to be enthusiastic and curious about Prezi, and this was reflected in their feedback forms as well. One suggestion on my feedback form was that I should stand while I presented in order to have a bit of "authority" over the class. This was interesting and I definitely will consider this in the future, as I understand the need for a bit of illusioned control when leading a discussion.
