When I was a child I was called white but I could always understand what the Spanish speakers said so when I got to high school it was funny for me when I spoke Spanish to a kid who didn’t know I knew.

I struggled with ELA as a young student, and I was tested to see if I needed to be in ESL classes. Speaking two languages gave me a slow start but now I am seeing the benefits and am teaching my children 2 languages.

When I work with kids I speak English and Spanish so they are exposed to both. They will eventually adapt and speak Spanish at home one day.
