1) Louie inspired Jolie a lot because he wanted everyone to realise their potential. Instead of just telling Louie's wartime story, she wanted to show how even in your darkest times, you are able to find strength within yourself.
2) This message is relevant to me because Jolie wanted to "put it out in the world". It has showed me that everyone - even people who had a rough upbringing and didn't always believe in themselves like Louie - can push themselves to their potential in order to get through hardships in life.

Jolie felt that the world would benefit from hearing Louie's story - the tale of being able to find greatness within yourself. Unbroken celebrates how ordinary Louie was, but how extraordinary he was able to be because of those who surrounded him and how he believed in himself

Jolie wanted to make a film that wasn't about Louie's greatness but inspired people. She wanted remind people that they have greatness too, that anybody can be resilient.

I think Jolie was very successful with this message, it is relevant to everyone, just as she had intended. The film emphasised that Louie was just an ordinary man who had greatness in him and made the decision to be resilient. The film made it easy to relate to Louie and consequently made the message more relatable and meaningful.

Jolie made this film despite the controversy that it would create to show the will of Louie during the war and how he persisted through the horrors of the war. How much soldiers go through for their country and how we can use that in our own daily lives

In showing Louie with his family and in many different scenarios he becomes relevant to anyone who has ever gotten in trouble, wanted to give up, had a special relationship with a sibling, or had a dream.

Jolie directed this film as she was inspired by Louie’s story. She wanted to share it with the world through film, as this gave a direct representation of everything that he went through during war. This meant that the audience was able to aspire to find their own inner strength like Louie and beat the odds. Which was an important message that Jolie was trying to portray – everyone has greatness within them and that is part of why she wanted to direct this film.

Jolie chose the film to direct as she was personally inspired by Louis resilience and flaws.

"I think to see somebody rise up, to see somebody confronted with so many obstacles in life who refuses to go down, and not only stand back up but somehow find a way to love and live again and be full of usefulness and joy…,"
"I've spent time with Lou and have been influenced by his story. I think it's something we need today more than ever: You look around you and there's so much to be overwhelmed by, and you study this life, this imperfect life, which is what's so beautiful about him. He was a little immigrant kid who was smoking, stealing and drinking by the time he was 9, and thought he was worth nothing. A lot of us have had that feeling. I've certainly had it myself. And he turned his life around and became somebody who would later inspire so many people."

It can be deduced from this that here message was to show the audience that even if you’re life seems like its worth nothing, and even if the world continually beats you down, we all have it within ourselves to rise up to a challenge, to shown resilience, and find our own inner strength.
