Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies, including heart attack or near drowning. The American Heart Association recommends that everyone begins CPR with chest compressions. It's far better to do something than to do nothing at all if you're fearful that your knowledge or abilties aren't 100% complete.

Untrained- If you are untrained in CPR, then provide hand-only CPR which is uninterrupted chest compressions of about 100 a minute until the paramedics arrive.
Trained- If you're well trained and confident in your ability, begin with chest compressions instead of first checking the airway and doing rescue breathing. Start the CPR with 30 chest compressions before checking the airway and giving rescue breaths.

One day over the summer I was at the pool with my friends. We were in the deeper end and we heard one of the lifeguards blow their whistle and hop into the pool and pull a younger girl out. The lifeguard starting doing CPR because the girl was not breathing because she had been drowning. The lifeguard eventually got her back to breathing but she looked really pale and didn't look to good after drowning. Luckily the lifeguard saw her because if she didn't it could have been much worse.

C- Compressions - Push hard and fast on the center of the victims chest. This is also to restore the blood circulation
A- Airway - Tilt the victims head back and lift the chin to open the airway. You need to clear the airways to try and restore breathing.
B- Breathing - Give mouth to mouth rescue breaths. This means you are trying to breath for the victim. You could also do mouth to nose if the mouth is seriously injured.

Accidents happen and its important to have the proper equipment ready for when these occur. Handling common injuries and wounds can be accompanied by a first aid kit. Cuts and scrapes can be risned with cool water and to stop the bleeding you should apply gauze with firm pressure. If the blood soaks through you simply put another layer of gauze on top of the first. The first aid kit should also include and guide.
