Mikan
mikan is a variety of orange that is especially popular in
Japan. Mikan has very low or no seeds and is really easy to peel. Shikoku is Japan’s
largest citrus-producing region. Ehime prefecture in shikoku produces more than
250000 tons of mikan every year. It was hard to cultivate rice on a slope and
dry island making it the perfect place to grow mikan. The warm climate, with an
unobstructed view of the sun in the steep hills and the sea-facing location,
created a perfect place to grow oranges. The salty sea breeze and mineral-rich
land made the mikan more delicious.
