Spider monkeys have long, thin arms with hook-like hands that allow them to swing through the trees. Spider monkeys use their arms and hands to move through the wild and to catch/gather food. Their disproportionately long limbs and long prehensile tails make them one of the largest New World monkeys and give rise to their common name. Spider monkeys live in the upper layers of the rainforest, and forage in the high canopy. They primarily eat fruits, but will also occasionally consume leaves, flowers, and insects. The Spider Monkeys use their arms and hands to help them get their food from high and low areas. Due to their large size, spider monkeys require large tracts of moist evergreen forests, and prefer undisturbed primary rainforest.
