As a teacher it is possible to have two ideologies that are conflicting at the same time. I often struggle with integrating new practices with old ones because they seem so different. Instead of trying to erase one I should look at finding a way to take the good parts of an old curriculum and fuse it with good parts of the new one for example.

When it comes to how I perceive myself as a teacher I have placed a lot of emphasis on my global perception. Instead I think it would benefit me more in the future to focus on how I feel about my teaching rather than how others perceive it. So learning to look at my past practices in a neutral light on my own will help.

As a teacher in an underrepresented minority I often have to keep in mind that my experiences in life don’t quite match up with my colleagues. I also need to keep in mind that my upbringing and world view were very different from what most of my students encounter in their lives.

As a teacher it is easy to isolate and never have to change beliefs or encounter new ones. Seeking out advice and help from my cow-workers could be a beneficial opportunity I haven’t taken advantage of.

I think that taking the steps to adapt parts of the cultures you work around, especially in a school, can really do a lot of work on getting things started on the right foot with your community. It's something that students and their families notice and appreciate almost instantly.

This is a really good insight. Even though we are a team on campus it is easy to forget that my teammates in counseling and in administration can have very different focus points than I do.

I agree that forming relationships with students is huge. Our site counselor has really worked to foster relationship building on campus and it has been slowly but surely paying off over the past two years.

Self reflection is what allows us to see the improvements to make in our lives. Both education professionals and students can benefit greatly with implementing self reflection for growth.

Instead of trying to decide between curriculums, making a comprise between the positive aspects of both is beneficial. I like this perspective and idea that you have adapted.

Inputing a underrepresented background is essential in the school setting. Understanding the platform and perspective that they have on a school team is important at bringing awareness and advocacy to these vulnerable populations.
