Being aware of why children defy authority can help us to understand reasons for why students are acting out in class. Knowing our students and making sure we are aware of the early signs of distress, staying calm, and giving time and space for children to cool down. So many of our students face these challenges daily, and when their home situation may be out of their control, to them, school is the only place to have that control. I have also found the idea of giving "limited choices" to be very successful in a situation like this.
