Students use digital tools to communicate, collaborate, and share ideas with their partners. For this reason, they learn how to use the internet safely and responsibly.

In our project, students are taught not to share personal information, to use strong passwords, and to respect others online. They also learn how to recognize unsafe situations and report them to their teachers.

By focusing on e-safety, our eTwinning project creates a safe, respectful, and positive digital learning environment for all participants.

The event will follow a debate format, using an active teaching methodology that engages and empowers students, encouraging their participation and stimulating their creativity and initiative. The entire day was organized with the active support of the Generazioni Connesse Youth Panel, which has been involved in training and creative workshops for the previous two months. Approximately 40 young members of the Safer Internet Centre Youth Panel  will perform theatrical performances that, through interactive scenes, will engage representatives of the relevant authorities and the audience on three highly topical macro-topics: digital well-being, Artificial Intelligence,  deepfakes and online  grooming.

Cyberbullies target their victims in several ways:

-dissing: sending lots of upsetting messages and spreading lies on social media.

-doxing: sharing true information about the victim that is private and they don’t want other people to know.

-maquerading: setting up a fake social media account, either to make friends with the victim before doing something unkind to them, or to pretend to be the victim.

-video shaming: posting a video of physical bullying or another incident that will embarras the victim.

-hacking: using a program to access the victim’s computer to spy on him/her or control the device.

The psychological effects of cyberbullying can last a lifetime, but the situation is never hopeless. If you or someone you know is experiencing cyberbullying, it’s important to tell parents and teachers immediately. If it’s taking place on social media, you can report it. In serious cases, you can contact the police. Cyberbullying is a crime, and no one should get away with it.

Missuori was the first state in the USA which passed a law against cyberbullying, and that happened in 2007.Since then, several other states have passed similar laws, but the problem got worse as smartphones and social media became more popular, especially among teenagers.

These days, 49 of the USA’s 50 states have specific cyberbullying laws, but there is still no national law. Likewise, in the European Union, there are no international laws against cyberbullying yet, but many countries have their own. Sweden was the first country to introduce a law against cyberbullying.

Digital safety is about protecting ourselves and others from cybercrime. It means choosing strong passwords, visiting software regulary. We also shouldn’t share personal information online, or post any pictures or videos that we wouldn’t want other people to see.
