Our child is experiencing brain lateralization and is right handed, like both of his parents. He participates in baseball and is becoming more enthusiastic about it as his skills are developing. Sport participation has helped with his ADHD because it gives him an outlet to express his hyperactivity as well as assist in developing his cognitive and social skills. His parents are strict with his diet to ensure he gets proper nutrients and maintains a healthy BMI. Limiting sedentary electronic viewing also helps avoid childhood obesity (Rodriguez, Gonzalez, & Foiles, 2018; Sigelman & Rider, 2018).

From a young age, his parents provided sensory puzzles and read to him a lot to allow Brian to develop his intelligence in many different ways. Because of this, his parents made sure that he was able to both excel in math, but also to stay at an average level in other core subjects (Sigelman & Rider, 2018).

When younger, Brian's private speech was encouraged by his parents and he was often asked to help with things around the house. Brian's parents also follow this belief and therefore have tried to introduce Brian to opportunities where he can grow and explore socially, such as daycare, sports, after school programs, and play dates (Sigelman & Rider, 2018).

Brian has a growth mindset. He does not like the idea of not having the mental or physical ability to complete a task or reach a goal, and therefore tries to prove wrong both himself and those who doubt his abilities. While he does get frustrated with failure, he uses that frustration as motivation to learn and do better next time the challenge is presented. This mindset is further nurtured by his parents, who are calm and loving when helping Brian work through problems. They constantly remind him that he can do anything that he puts his mind to. They also avoid harsh repercussions for failures as long as they can see that Brian is actively trying to succeed
(Sigelman & Rider, 2018).

As a preschooler, Brian was enrolled in daycare and attended classes two to three times a week. This daycare provided a "healthy mix of play and academic activities" (Sigleman & Rider, 2018, 311). This helped support Brian's language, problem solving, academic, and social skill development. Brian's parents were also enrolled in many parent education classes before he was born. Because of these classes, his parents know what parenting styles work and which have proven to be ineffective or potentially harmful. The education provided by the classes has allowed Brian's parents to raise him in the most rewarding way possible, improving both his motivation and overall intelligence (Sigelman & Rider, 2018).
