"Methought I heard a voice cry "Sleep no more! / Macbeth does murder sleep" --the innocent sleep, / Sleep that knits up the raveled sleave of care" (2.2.47-49).

Answer the following:

the speaker and the one spoken to

Macbeth speaking to Lady Macbeth

the context (what was happening at this point in the play)

At this point in the play the Macbeth's had succeed in killing King Duncan. But because Macbeth is paranoid he was convinced that someone had witnessed him murder Duncan in his sleep. Along with that he believes that because he murdered someone in their sleep, your most vulnerable state, then he will now never have another peaceful night's rest.

Analyze this passage from the Psychoanalytic perspective. (Hint: What is Macbeth repressing?)

Macbeth is repressing "Id ego" because he is rushed with emotions of guilt and honor after killing someone who had put so much trust in him. During this we can see Macbeth's "superego" begins to appear because he knows that killing the king was wrong and now his conscience feels guilty as well, however, his "ego" begins to appear because he knows his "Id ego" was telling him to kill the king, and his "superego" was telling him not to. But him, himself, knows that the murder in a way could be justified because he killed a king to become a king.
