These types of plants were foreign and many did not know how to use them properly. Native plants were commonly used since they were easier to obtain and were cheaper. These plants include anise seed, foxglove, plantain, St. John's wort, and ragwort. Plants were to be consumed or applied to the skin to help the injured. Although plants may of seemed harmless, some plants including rowan, oak and hazel trees were assumed to be magical. 1. Confession evidence included torturing the one convicted of using witchcraft. The suspect would make a pact with the devil and harm their neighbors by the dangerous witchcraft they used.
2. Neighbor's testimony consisted of them saying the suffering they went through to obtain more information on other suspects. Essentially, the information given from one suspect would lead to another suspect.
3. The devils mark was a to determine if an individual made a pact with the devil. The ritual is the opposite of the Christian baptism.
