Prior to teaching, I was in the financial industry working as a commercial lender for a major bank. I am married with three sons - two have graduated college, and one is a freshman at SUNY Buffalo. I have used a Great Student Rubric in middle school for my Academic Center students. I would like to learn how to develop something similar for my high school students to motivate them to take on more responsibility for monitoring their own learning.

I am a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) in Rio School District, located in Southern California.  My area of focus is Math.  Our district is K-8 and we are in our 2nd year of implementing new Math curriculum in K-5 and another curriculum in 6-8.  This is my 2nd year as a TOSA after 20+ years experience as a classroom teacher in grades 1,3,6,7 & 8.  This will be my third course with IDE and I have enjoyed each of them for the challenges they provide in moving me out of comfort zones to continue developing my practice as an educator and leader.  The support and guidance of the course instructors has been invaluable in implementing change towards 21st Century Education.  I am looking forward to learning strategies that can help students develop skills to enable them to be responsible for their learning.

This my third IDE class.  I have always been a believer in students owning their actions and education. I accepted the statement "The teacher gave me...." This course looks like it will align with my Professional Growth Plan here at work. I am doing the second year of Student Directed IEP's with one of the administrators  and two other teachers. .
