Float: with float, I tried recording it two times. I found that the technique of starting with the eyes, looking at everything and nothing at the same time helped me get into "character", as it reminded me exactly of what Luna does. However, as time went by, I realised I started to "break", mid float, like a disfunctional robot trying to act smoothly, so I tried recording again as it was less sustained and more broken. I feel I get too self-conscious worrying about what move I'm going to do next, too focused on being sustained, indirect and light that I start to break. I start thinking "what else can I do that I haven't done yet, which body part can I use" instead of just "floating". This self-consciousness happens with all efforts to me, but especially with the sustained ones, as with the brokens I have more time to think and prepare my next move, though I shouldn't be preparing anything.
Glide: I think I find gliding the hardest, because I am tempted to be indirect with it, making non-direct movements, and then I try to correct myself and "lose it". I get too worried about being "gracious" like a ballerina or the queen.
Dab: the dab is simpler to me, as I can just make any part of my body twitch quickly and it's okay, but I do mix it up with "flick" quite a bit and have to remind myself to be direct and not indirect. I have a tendency to flick, and I think I did more of that towards the end. Thinking of a pigeon always helps me.

This is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in this tv series in my opinion. Fiona is one of my favourite characters and Emmy Rossum who plays her is an amazing actress. In my opinion, she is definitely dabbing in this scene. It is mixed with anger, but it is direct. He whole body is working together with her voice. She is shaking, but it looks more like nervous ticks. It is direct, emotional, repetitive and I believe it is noticeable not only in her body, but in her voice.

Her character in this tv series is mostly in float, well I believe she prefers to be seen like that. She actually has deep intelligence, but a lot of bad things happen to her character. This scene is at the end of the tv series and she is going through a big decision, and while she is doing that it cuts to her love of ice-skating and how she doesn't do it anymore. I love the moments there, because her hands are the perfect example of glide. It starts at 2:06 - 2.24.

In the show 'Downton Abbey' all efforts can be found in most scenes. However, for this scene I believe that Dab is the main effort. Mary's voice and her movement are light sudden and direct. She is dabbing with her body, her face and her voice, although it is very subtle and elegant. Since she just received sad news, she is breathing in between her words, which makes her speech more light and sudden.

Float: Float has always been the 'easiest' effort for me, because it makes the most sense to me. Whenever I start going through the efforts, I tend to start with float because it gets me to move my body, without sudden movement.
Glide: I find glide both 'easy' and difficult. I find it 'easy' when I just think about how to do a gliding movement, but I find it difficult when thinking about a daily movement in glide. My main example is mostly dancing or ice skating, which is always the basis of my movement.
Dab: When I start dabbing, I often think about birds or chicken, that just run around. Since it is sudden, it is easier to perform, however, I feel quite unrealistic when I am performing. This is because I often think about going big in dabbing, and I have never seen someone in real life who is dabbing around.

The password for it is: leigh

These days I find it challenging to get into the efforts. My mindset is different now to how it was back in year one, when we could be in the room. I felt that I was kind of getting more into it because there were other people around me doing it, it felt freeing and liberating. Now, I feel confused. I want to find the right music for all the efforts and do the whole cycle again, like we used to in class. Because that used to help me free my mind and just be in my body. I also need to do it for hours and hours before I will feel like I felt last year.
With float it was hard at the very beginning, it then became a bit easier. I used my hands a lot and then the rest of my body began to float. I find it the easiest with my arms and neck in float. From the lack of practise, my spine felt too controlled to be in float, I need to work on relaxing my cpine, hips and legs.
Glide is very tricky for me. It feels very unnatural to me to be light and direct at the same time. And I struggle to find everywhere in my body. The arms are quite simple, but the rest of the body doesn't really follow, or at least that's what it felt like to me. It probably has to do with how tense I am as well.
Dab is an exciting one for me. It is tricky sometimes for me if I get carried away, I start confusing dab and flick. I always remind myself that it's direct. I find exciting, it reminds me of a fire flame, or those christmas fireworks. Sudden, quick, energetic movements. And again, my spine barely moved and I felt that my legs were disconnected from the action in my upper body.

From what I feel now, it is someone standing tall, almost cold but not brusk. I think Beverly Hofstadter, Leonard's mother fits this effort.
She is a very cold and distant person, she is always standing tall as if better than everyone else, like she is proud. She also enunciates every syllables and letters she pronounce. Her movement are minimalists, she is not a very expressive character therefor does not express her emotions with her body. She still has a straight back when she sits, often cross-legged and she does small precise movements with her hands to get her point across.
To me she is gliding.

However, my first thought was dab.
He is a light and quick character. The question was whether he was direct or indirect. I think the way his movements are sharp and "in a certain order", for example his rituals, make me think he is a direct person. When he knocks three times on doors before entering, when Leonard reveals to him that Raj used his toothbrush or when he does laundry and folds his clothes, he seems to be dabbing. Also the way he laughs, it is short, sudden and light.

However, I wanted to steer away from the physicality of the profession and find someone who simply reminded me of aggressive heaviness, and I thought of De Niro in The Untouchables.
His character is extremely violent (as you can see at the end of this scene). Throughout the entire movie he makes direct gestures, usually a bit slow and heavy. He's "making points" and making sure everyone is fearing him.

I can see characters in their archetypes now, and I imagined flick in Rachel. She is always flicking her hands when she speaks, I feel like the rest of her body is a bit tensed up in the rest of her movements but just from her hands, and perhaps head/hair, she reminds me of flicking. She is also a light character, there is no heaviness in her, and you can never truly know (unless you've watched the show) what her reaction is going to be which fits with indirect to me.

His speech pattern is very unpredictable and fast, and uses equally sporadic gesticulation. He shrugs his shoulders a lot, touches his face, waves his arms, and flicks his head around when he speaks.

Flick: Flick always reminds me of 20's dancing. I always forget I can isolate flicking, as soon as I begin the movements I flick with my entire body in every way I can think of, and then I realise I don't have to necessarily move everything to be doing it "right". Actors either do too much or too little. Hard to get it right. Flicking feels nice but I get tired of it quickly. I find that closing my eyes during these videos helps me not get so self-aware and helps me get in the zone.
Slash: I really postponed filming this because I thought going to heavy efforts was going to be tremendously difficult, but slashing felt extremely freeing. While watching the video I thought "wow he's really letting himself go" and I thought it could be even therapeutic to slash like him. We don't get many opportunities in our daily lives to slash aggressively like that, and I took this video to "unleash" some things out. Felt nice.
Thrust: I struggled with thrust the most because of its directness, it felt more restraining to me because I couldn't truly just let it go like slash, it felt robotic and not as freeing. It's like being a caged animal, with a lot of frustration and anger built up but only so much to move around and express it.

I find flick freeing. Every part of my body starts to have a life of its' own. I think if this was a character it would be someone who is a bit indecisive, fun, not very serious when it comes to life and someone who likes to explore. I felt comfortable in it, apart from my neck and head, there were moments when I was a bit stressed that I was going to injure my neck.
With thrust it was a bit more difficult, it's intense and after two minutes of doing it I was already sweating and exhausted, my breath was deep and hard and by the end of it I was definitely out of breath. If this was a character, I imagine someone with anger issues, someone who lacks control over their emotions and resorts to violence when facing a difficult decision. Ot facing a crisis, especially an emotional one.
And finally, slash. I really enjoy doing slash. It really releases my spine, but just like thrust, after two minutes I was already exhausted, if I had to play someone who is constantly slashing, I can imagine it would be quite exhausting mentally and physically. If this was a character, I imagine they would be someone who resorts to snarky comments, when facing a crisis. A person who maybe not able to listen, without taking offense and they feel the constant need to hit back at the person. They would be someone who maybe constantly feels attacked, even when it isn't an attack on their character at all. I don't think they would resort to physical violence, but definitely verbal abuse.

This is a bit contradictory to my previous statement about thrust and violence, bit i believe women and men would experience thrust differently. Women wouldn't be as likely to go with violence. In this scene she feels exhausted, conflicted, not listened to, underappreciated. The speech slowly moves into thrust. Her body language and her voice are thrusting. She is pushing and pushing, because she has nothing to prove anymore, she is tired and angry.

This scene is one of my absolute favourites. This tv series is amazing. The character of Elektra is an independent, strong, powerful transgender woman, who had to fight for everything she has. She knows struggle and she isn't scared of anybody. SHe knows her strengths and one of her many strengths is the ability to completely annihilate people with words. In this example a white, middle-class white woman comes up to her table to express her opinion about them as women, and how they aren't real women. And this is when Elektra completely destroys her, just using words. I think this is slashing at its' finest,.

I absolutely love Fleabag. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a phenomenal actress. She has great comedic timing. I think her character in the whole series loves to deflect. She avoids deep connections, deep conversations. She just lives her life without thinking, or at least that's what she wants to believe and what she wants others to believe about her. In this scene she is quite deflective and also the moments where she talks to the audience, breaking the fourth wall, I think are perfect examples of flick. She is quick witted, almost always tries to keep conversations on the surface. I think she is constantly flicking.

Flick:
Whenever I think of 'flick' I instantly think about trying to flick away bees or other insects. For some reason this effort seems slightly 'Hysterical' to me. I guess this is because of the quick movements without a direction. I like this effort, because I can see myself doing this in real life, other than for example slashing.
Thrust:
I believe this effort is quite aggressive, due to the heavy and sustained movements. While I was thrusting I completely forgot about my legs, and mainly used my upper body and arms. I do not know why, but I think because it is a heavy and 'respectable' effort, I subconsciously wanted to have a strong stand.
Slash:
While I was slashing, I kind of used all my energy and thoughts. In comparison to the other two efforts I did, I did not think about anything. I just let my body slash around the room. I like this effort because it is strong, yet not so restricted in terms of the direction.

https://vimeo.com/509850837
password: leigh

Rachel when she is confused or complains she has this high pitched voice. She also has this tendency to move her head side to side, do a lot of arms, wrists and hands movement when she is agitated or excited.
When I had to find someone in flick I immediately thought of her and particularly of this scene (0:40). She contains a lot of anger and darkness in her. In these extracts, we can see how violent she can not necessarily physically but also verbally.
Also she always snaps, which to me is direct and broken. She is not screaming and trashing around, she has like "pulsions" where she suddenly pushes someone or kicks a door. She often do her aggressive manners all of a sudden. However, when she uses the buttersock I think her movements are in slash. She swings the sock from side to side and then throws it onto someone or something. It seemed indirect to me and also heavy of course, as well as broken since it has an impact on a surface.
As I was internalizing "slash" I felt arrogance in me, like an amount of confidence and of self-value that made me feel arrogant. So not in a nice way. That is why I though of Mean Girls and more precisely of Regina George. I do not think she is "slash" in her movements but in her way of talking. She is very mean, condescending towards others. She thinks she is superior and is therefor a very arrogant character. Also some of her mannerisms. When I internalized "slash" I found myself smirking, tilting my head "lazily" to the side but in a heavy indirect way. Like she does sometimes. I may go in a "wrong" direction with it but this is how I felt going through this effort.

I thought of Michael Cera in Superbad but he's too "calm" in that. So I chose Ron Weasley because even though he's brave and faces his fears, he always shows in his face his inner struggle.

I associate pressing with confrontation/interrogation/generally asserting oneself. In Inglorious Basterds, we see Hans Landa (generally considered one of the most villainous movie characters) intimidating people through intense moment in which the weight of his stare and the way he speaks "presses" into the opposing character.

Press: I did not realise I did it for 5 minutes. I thought 1min had passed when I finished.
I've realised I don't like the direct efforts, because I feel very restricted by them and get more self aware over my actions because I have to focus on being direct. When I'm indirect I feel more free, and therefore "lose myself" more easily.
Wring: I hate wringing. Unlike press which I did 5 minutes that felt like 1, I was incredibly aware of the time going by with wringing. It made me feel extremely uncomfortable even though I was fine, I started to feel physically unwell and couldn't wait to be done with it.

So when I filmed, I was doing them longer.

While I was wringing, I felt like my body needed it. I do not know if you can hear it, but my entire back was cracking throughout the entire wring movements. It felt like my back needed to be cracked from all angles. It felt really good, and at the same time it felt like I was doing this effort correctly, because I was able to fully feel it, yet it did not hurt me.
While I was wringing, it felt like not only my body was working, but also my organs if that makes any sense.
I never really liked 'wring' until I did it that day.

Press:
Pressing was quite exhausting for me, because whenever I do this effort, I actually feel like I am pressing against something.

I do try to think about my breathing, but once I am pressing, I am so into 'pressing' that I hold my breath to press even further.

I did the press after wring, and it felt like all of the muscles and bones that cracked and released during wrining, tensed up again. However, with the 'tensing' up, it felt like I was building my musles in ma back, especially in my lower back.

Both of these efforts are difficult, if that makes sense. They make me feel stressed and uneasy.
Wrong is a bit more indecisive, it's anxious in a way. I actually think it is very close to how I feel when I am having a panic attack. It's this uncomfortable feelings, your body feel broken, but there is nothing I can do. I also thought about this while doing it, I think if someone was playing a character who is struggling with drug use, they should use this effort as a way in. If the character is someone in drug withdrawal, you often see this uncomfortable anxious body-language, that is out of their control.
With press, I find it difficult to do. I don't really know how to use the whole weight of my body yet. But it was also exhausting. It felt like I was in a movie scene where I am getting closed in a small space, trying to keep the walls from closing in. Or opening an elevator.

And there is press, that I often feel comes together with wring. The anger and hate towards how you're feeling.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4eB2qW0MlA
Ross Geller, Friends.

When I internalized "press" I felt very constricted, very alert and as if I was repressing what I was feeling. It was not a nice feeling, it reminded me when I get angry and want to explode and I can't so I just try to hold it in until I'm alone and can let go. I had difficulty breathing. I think that it can be "excessive" press in a moment, so I would say especially at 3:40 in the video.
But overall I think Ross is a press character. I hesitate with Glide because he has that posture and allure of a glide character. But I think he is more on the heavy side. He often has this neutral face but inside you know he feels a lot of different emotions and comes a moment where he explodes. He seems to suppress his emotions and appear calm until he can not hide it anymore. This is how I felt in press.

Like something was hurting but trying to suppress it. I am sure it is not the only way to display and feel wring but this is how I felt it when I was doing it.
In the first video, you can see Tris is fighting internally and it causes her pain. She is trying to resist and it makes her suffer. Her body is wringing. She tries to get away from something that is inside her and so it is impossible to be able to go.
In the second video, when she starts crying, she is in wring to me. I think everyone crying or trying to hold back tears is wringing, more or less, but I thought of Shailene Woodley's face when thinking about crying for wring. Also her voice in that scene is broken/strained. It holds so much pain it makes me think of wring too. She is trying to articulate, to speak, but she hurts so much inside it is hard for her and the sound comes out strained.

I believe pain and discomfort is not the only internalized possibility of wring, but it is the one I thought of.

I've chosen wolves because I like them a lot and they're slightly different from dogs in terms of body language and they interest me. They also give off confidence and I'd like to challenge myself to be more like them.

Observation Breakdown (BBWSWRB)

1. Backbone: I've been watching some videos and I've noticed that even when they're stretching or bending down to eat a prey, their backs are usually very straight, much different from cats. The most it moves is when they howl, when their necks go up, but even then sometimes they stay straight.

2. Breath rhythm (Heartbeat) :
Google didn't help me much with this one, but assuming they're always in movement and running, their heartbeat should be quite fast.

3. Weight (Centre of gravity):
After watching some videos, I've been thinking that it's at their chest, it seems to be the heaviest part of the body and the one that leads the movements.

4. Space (The way it uses the space)
When they're not playing, they're hunting or sleeping. I think they take their space very well. They walk a bit far from each other, keeping their own "personal" space in the pack. They act "big", to establish power, I think you'll see them acting "small" if they're retreating from a fight, but otherwise they should keep their chest high and prepared for attack.

5. Way it sees the world (Eyes)
Wolves have very intense eyes, when humans want to be in contact with them they should not make any sudden movements, as the wolves will notice and might attack. Their eyes are one of the most distinguishable features to me, as their gazes feel very potent and threatening, as if they can see everything.
"Wolves also have keen eye sight and are quick to detect the slightest movement of anything in front of them. Being major predators, their eyes are on the front of there heads, and they have probably a little less than 180-degree vision"

6. Rhythm of life:
Wolves are always traveling, usually with packs. Rare to see a "lone wolf". In search for food, howling to gather, to mark territory, to scare other packs off. They're very playful with each other, but also "ready" anytime for danger or hunt.
"Wolves can run up to 40 miles an hour and can easily cover 50 miles a day. " "In the wild wolves can live up to 13 years or more, in a protected wolf park or a controlled area of land, a wolf can live to be up to 16 years old. But most wolves usually live to be to around 8 years of age. The record wolf life span is about 20 years of age. Life in the wild is difficult for the wolf, with human population taking up more and more wolf habitat, and with those who would kill the wolf, a long life span is unlikely. In a controlled environment they can live longer because they are safe from the outside dangers of traps, snares, enemies and poisons."

7. Balance of senses: their sense of smell is definitely the strongest, able to smell things that are very far away. When they come in contact with humans for example, the first thing they do is smell them, so they can know where they've been, get an idea of what they're dealing with.
"Next to smell, the sense of hearing is the most acute of the wolf's senses. Wolves can hear as far as six miles away in the forest and ten miles in the open. Wolves can hear well up to a frequency of 25 khz. Some researchers believe that the actual maximum frequency detected by wolves is actually much higher, perhaps up to 80 khz (the upper auditory limits for humans is 20 khz), also according to some naturalist wolves' hearing is greater than that of the dog."

Quotes: http://www.wolfcountry.net/information/WolfObserved.html#:~:text=Sight,300%20degrees%20of%20a%20circle.

Videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBjfN6RgI7k

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyZNLOHPk2E

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXMo5w9aMNs&t=166s

Backbone - 245 bones. Little fat = mostly muscle → quickly move in all directions. Very flexible spine, and shoulder blades move 15 cm front and back when they hunt well-muscles, with long body, large head and short legs. Male has mane making it appear bigger (1.8-2.1 m + 1m tail) Female (1.5 m + 1m tail)

Breath rhythm (heartbeat) - Heart rate of (captive) lions ranged from 42 to 76 beats per minute

Weight (centre of gravity) - Male: 190kg, Female: 130kg, walks on toes instead of the paw pads, to be quiet. Move one side then the other, back leg moves first then front leg

Space (the way it uses the space) - females are primarily hunting males protect the pride. 80 km/h for short distances. Within its territory, lion and lionesses move freely and majestically, they don’t even need to be very worried that other predators may come, because nobody huts lions except for us humans, and some other lion prides. When hunting they are very quite and move slowly, between bushes and trees. They lower their back and crawl, when they see their prey close enough they use their back legs to start of their jump/sprint

Way it sees the world (eyes) - Eyes towards the front. Range of vision 200°, relies on his head to move and see

Rhythm of life - unique to cats, live in prides with several lionesses, few breeding males and their cub. 4 - 37 members, but usually around 15 members. Well-defined territory where no other lions may enter, and a fringe area where some overlap is tolerated. Males proclaim their territory by urinating on trees, bushes or the ground. Groups of females, for example, hunt more effectively and are better able to defend cubs against infanticidal males and their hunting territory against other females

Balance of senses - excellent sense of sight, very intense sense of smell - sneering face when a scent passes over Jacobson's organ, a special organ on the roof of his mouth. This little extra helps a lion determine reproductive status, locate kills by other predators and find prey, good hearing - can adjust ears to where sound is coming from, can hear up to 1 mile, lions roar very important - to communicate (females can also roar) can be heard 5 miles away. Touch - tail and tongue, taste not important but help scrape meat and to groom, only cat with a tassel on tail (may be a tactile organ)

The Backbone Their backs are usually straight and they use their tail to sometimes cling unto branches and other things its pretty much hardened at the top and not moving even when they’re moving.

Breath rhythm: Sometimes you can see the upper body of the chameleon inflate and deflate, which shows them breathing, sometimes its very subtle and you can barely see if they breathe, but other times its quite clear.

The Weight: of the chameleon, keeping its body neutral and swaying back and forth with the legs and arms. They're very cautious with their movements

Space: its hands are perfectly shaped to grab onto twigs, trees and it feels like they align with the space they are given or are in.

Way: Chameleons have great eyesight, the reason being is they can turn them independently and focus on two different objects at the same time. this makes it hard to sneak up on a chameleon.

They can change colour due to temperature but also to disguise themselves from predators.

Rhytm of life: It’s funny to see how they walk as it seems to be that if they raise their left arm then the opposite leg also follows with it, it might be how the body functions, so when they walk its always the hand and the opposite leg moving first and then the other hand and opposite leg of that hand moving.

Balance of senses: Chameleons rely on their eyesight, vibrations and smell they don’t have ear canals or ears but they can hear, lower tones that make vibrations which their bones in the head channel the vibration to its auditory organ. they use the hearing to communicate with other chameleons because they can produce a low tones which can be hard for humans to hear.

sense of smell is not well developed for chameleons and not known to what extent they use this, but they can smell and they breathe through their noses.

They taste with their tongue.

Some general facts:
https://www.kidzone.ws/animal-facts/chameleons/facts.htm

I felt it through every fibre of my body and my core, the shortest and most intense workout in my life haha! But it was fun! though very limited because my body really couldn't do it for a long period of time. Breathing became hard because I was too focused on trying to balance my legs and arms to move forward, first 10-20 seconds felt light and a mixture of dab/glide, but then when I became tired it suddenly was very pressing. I tried to mimic the way they watch their surroundings but that looks very crazy at this point.
Vimeo password: Leigh2021

I wanted to use my feet for paws instead of my knees, but then I found the problem of trying to keep my back straight and butt down, as straight as a wolf would be. I also forgot to "smile" and show my teeth as wolf usually do when their tongues are out. I realised next time I should also keep my neck aligned with my back, and then just have my eyes looking "up" as that would be more like wolves do. It was a challenge hahah

1st exploration of Red Fox

Here is the link to my exploration of Red Fox video : https://vimeo.com/515338743
The password is : LEIGH2021

I started my researches by watching this short documentary : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBc6FExWvrw&t=478s

- I observed the posture of a fox, how its eyes moved and how his body moved. I noticed that the bottom of her spine was closer to the ground than her chest, because they usually keep their tails very low, so I concluded their center of gravity was in their chest. (I'm using the feminine because one of the main fox in the documentary is a female.)
I tried to recreate that posture by, instead of walking on my knees and hands, using my fingers to hold my upper body, so my chest would be further away from the ground than the rest of my body.

- I also observed how they hunt, they get very close to the ground and walk very slowly. When they jump on their prey they use their front paws to give the impulse and the rest of their body follow.
Well I tried haha. They are very agile and can jump to over 2 meters high (I can't).

- Their senses are very developed, especially their hearing, they can hear mice from 100 meters away or even birds in the sky. That's why I tried to not look around when I was exploring but more to listen.

- About their barks, they have different sounds they use. They can bark, howl and scream, depending on the situation. They have alarm bark to protect their curbs, gekkering when playing or fighting... Here are videos I watched : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6NuhlibHsM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEgVVcVS5X4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPFTEuT3d4I
I listened to them a lot of times but couldn't find it in me to make the noise. I think it comes from their stomach, it is quite high but deep? We often don't know what noise a fox makes so now we do.

I chose ostriches mainly because they are one of the most bizarre animals I could think of. I'm terrified of them but I also think they're absolutely hilarious in the way that they behave and just the fact that they exist is funny: giant, flightless, ridiculously fast, prehistoric bird creatures. Once an ostrich poked me on the head at the zoo. It was a sketchy zoo.

Tiger

The backbone: big, strong animals. They are the largest cat species in the world. Tigers even have more muscle mass than lions, even though I used to think it was the other way around. They have strong bodies, long backs, long tails, big paws. Tigers are also excellent swimmers, which means they have great control.

Breath Rhythm: "Tigers, like other carnivores, have a Jacobson organ in the roof of their mouth. The Jacobson organ is a pouch-like structure located directly behind the front incisors. It has two small openings that direct scent particles from the air as the tiger inhales to nerves located within the structure." This organ allows them to smell with their mouth. So I can imagine this would definitely change an actors breath who is acting as a tiger. I believe that tigers breath in deeply, with their whole chest, but it isn't loud when they are hunting. But it's loud and hard once they get their prey.

The Weight: Tigers can be as heavy as 303 kg and 3.3 meters long. The weight sits deep and they have very strong, muscular limbs to support that weight. I think a tiger's centre of gravity is in their chest/shoulders.

Space: It uses the space to its' complete advantage. A tiger is proud, large, afraid of no one. It can only be attacked by animals in a pack. But everyone is scared of a tiger, no matter if it's alone or not. It takes all the space around.

Way it sees the world: During the day a tigers eyesight is pretty normal, it's like ours but with a bit less detail. But at night their eyesight is exceptionally good. Their eyesight is almost designed for nighttime. I think they are extremely vigilant. They notice everything, especially at night of course. I think they're constantly aware of their complete surroundings, if that makes sense.

Rhythm of life: Tigers hunt quite often. They can eat up to 88 pounds of meat in one go, in that case they can go without food for the next 4-5 days. But interestingly enough, tigers hunt successfully about one in every 10 to 20 attempts. Which means a tiger spends most of its' time hunting, because they literally need to eat. But if so many attempts are unsuccessful, that means they spent every day hunting, so that they can eat every 4-5 days. I think that makes their rhythm a bit of an erratic one. They're constantly on the go, I can imagine a tiger would get quite stressed if after 15 times it still hasn't caught anything.

Balance of Senses: Tigers have facing forward eyes. A tiger's sense of hearing is the most acute out of all the senses. And a tiger's sense of touch helps them navigate through the night, they don't just use their eyes, but their paws. I think a tiger balances all the senses. In my mind the most prominent for some reason was the hearing. But then thinking about it I realised how many videos I have watched where a tiger can sit and watch its' prey for so long, it seems forever. But what it made me think of is the eyes. A tiger is so concentrated, the prey will never leave their eyesight.

I thought it would be difficult, being on all fours, and it was, but I just imagined that my knees were my paws and my back had a tail, I just tried to imagine my body to be longer and larger. When researching tigers and watching them, the most prominent thing I noticed was how they yawn. They yawn with their whole face, and move their neck with it too. I used that as a "way in". The hardest thing was how to accelerate, because it is hard on the knees, maybe next time I would try it on a softer ground. I really enjoyed this, I felt big, I also felt oddly relaxed in certain moments. I think they are majestic animals, huge and strong. Next time, if we continue doing this, I would love to try an animal, which is smaller, to see the difference in my body and how it would affect my breath. And for breath, every time I saw something that intrigued me, I changed my breath to mouth breathing.

In the first clip I tried to mimic a video i saw on youtube where a person tries to touch the frog with a stick. I thought I might use it to my advantage and just feel how would a frog react when an object touches him. Also, my breath was not that stiff and i did not have much difficulty whilst moving. My spine although started hurting as soon as i slouched which then was controlling the speed of my movements and also made them really heavy. At this point, I started feeling like my body is pressing. My movements became slow and extremely heavy. I was pushing myself to make the jump because it felt I am just stuck in that position. I also jumped back, which, not a lot of frogs do except me, just so i do not lose the focus and the heaviness of the body or I will be out of the rhythm. This might me the hardest 4 mins video of my life!

The process is not easy trying to make it make sense, but taking in the feedback I do need to find the stillness specially in head, neck and shoulder area. the scenario here is a non threafull environment, being very still with body and the swaying minimal, I wanted to be as still as I could with the back as I never see their backbones move, its mainly the legs and tail. I do some stretching beforehand and trying to keep my joints in good shape. I tried to think if any of the body parts might be connected to other efforts, and they certainly can! But Press, wring, dab and float makes the most sense. some elements of glide to. but the chameleon might not have the anatomy to be as direct as a horse or other animals.
I tried to keep the facial expressions very still too and try to focus my eyes on certain points. the chameleon sometimes look very focused as well and seem to be a very cautious animal too so trying to be still and yet showing their vulnerable side to them trying to control their environment is what I tried to achieve here.

Walking straight ahead slowly and continuously as to not be heard or seen.
Then I relaxed into a wring with the fox yawn.
Then I got playful with dab. I tried the fox smile while panting as you mentionned previously, it did help get into a fox skin I think by changing my facial features to adapt the ones of a fox. Instead of just panting as a human would I tried to embrace the fox's way. I tried to be light with dab but it was kinda hard so I tried not going too fast but slower to get more of the lightness in my moves.

I felt that last week I was rushing, trying to walk around, which was still good exploration of the animal. But this time I wanted to concentrate on the smaller details. In the first part of the video I just tried to play with being calm in a way, and it felt like I was in glide the whole time. I definitely feel a tiger that's hunting is in glide. In the second part of the video I played around with sound. I actually really enjoyed doing that, it felt natural to the nature of the tiger. I know I didn't move that much in this week's video, but it felt good to be calmer and still, I had time to explore things I didn't get to explore last week. And doing all the efforts was definitely an eye opener, to me, the most comfortable effort for the tiger that I created is glide.

I really liked how you were scratching your back, I think it was a good way for you to get into the mindset of a wolf. I could see a good work with your spine, how your upper body followed your back, it was agile/flexible how you were moving, I could see you had control.

The panting, I think you got the breath of the wolf, maybe exaggerate it a bit more but I think it worked well.

When you stopped wiggling on the floor, we could see it was because you heard something. It showed you were using your senses. First you heard, then looked. The way you were fixing the source of the noise was very intense, you had all your focus on it.

When you got up it was very sudden and controlled. Like you were in control of your body. When you were on your four paws, your knees and hands were far apart from one another which made you look bigger, and it’s good since a wolf is a big animal.

When you howled, I like how you dived first with your head, then your neck followed and then your back, it almost looked like a line when your head was tilted upwards. Like a wolf’s posture would be. That was very good!

I like how you walked, you looked big and imposing. Maybe try more work with your spine or weight, like more spine/back movements or more weight with your paws, depending on how you think the wolf would walk. Good work partner!

Anthropomorphic Character- Frog to human

I tried using my chin in the beginning as the frog's and instinctively I started making the noise through my mouth similar to them. Frogs, when they change their direction, their entire body shifts. Frogs also pull their neck quite often whilst walking, something I tried here. My legs were in DAB and my upper body was in PRESS and my breath got heavier when I switched from a frog to anthropomorphic character. I tried to keep the direction and the breath and some movements(hands) of the frog whilst posture of the body in human. My body felt like it was in THRUST. The breath was controlling the movements and the spine and it got heavier. At last, I changed to a kid. Kids crawl like a frog and stretch their necks out when they walk. They change the direction of the body with their lenses. Here, my breath was in GLIDE whilst my body was in FLOAT-DAB.

I attempted The Leap because it looked fun in the video, the actor that did it there made her transitions seamless! The reading mentioned that the shifts should be sporadic but also that a sound could, for instance, be the ''trigger''. I went with a growl as my trigger. I think this is the most aggressive my grizzly has been and I think the growl and the fast pace did that.

I will say I lost some technicalities, it's the wideness of my shoulders and the heavy head that feels like my way ''in'' to find the grizzly.

I like that his exercise helped me to find the internal life of my grizzly.

I filmed the video from two angels at the same time as I couldn't find a good way to film enough of the floor space without cutting off my head and vice versa. Still, I move outside the frame sometimes so I'm sorry about that. Hope you can see enough.

I’m not entirely sure I knew how to perform the leap, but I tried maintaining the essence of the wolf and finding a naturalistic way to go from wolf form to human (dog’s pose). I also couldn’t think of a way to move the camera so I chose to remain on the floor.

However, once I was filming myself I did totally new things. It felt weird to go from animal to half animal to human, however, I really felt the strength and power that I had as 'human' right after doing the lioness on the floor.

Fox Leap

Here is the link to my Fox LEAP video : https://vimeo.com/521026678
The password is : LEIGH2021

When we did the anthropomorphism last week, I found myself walking on my tip toes and with the chest high. The fox has its chest higher than the rest of his body on its four paws so I found myself doing it too with human features. I think the tip toes came from the fox's lightness and agility. Their back legs are seem very thin but they help him be agile. So I did it in this video too.
I kept the fox's smile and yawning with the human features because I think it helps keeping the fox part for me in me and for people that may watch.
When I became part human, I find myself really playing with my body and spine, like having very delicate and graceful movements (of hands for example). I was stretching my legs but pointing my toes to be more elegant. I think it is because the fox is so agile that it appears elegant.
I also tried to keep its heightened senses, the fox's hearing is better than its vision, both are way more developed than us but the fox's hearing is stronger than its vision. I also had "malicious" facial expressions, I think it is because of the fox smile that people say they are cunning animals.

Link: https://vimeo.com/521144116
Password: TIGER

In this video I decided to start with just being the tiger and then moving to a human - tiger. I don't know which was the way we were supposed to do this exercise but I kind of improvised. When I moved to a human tiger I chose to play a bit with the camera, obviously first of all because I did need to move it to get a better angle, but it was quite fun to actually think like a human tiger and play with the camera in that mindset. At the end I decided to move back into a full tiger. I found this exercise fun. Moving out and in was an exciting and interesting way to explore the animal further. I still kept it simple, with more detail work rather than big movements and I hope that comes across.
