Throughout the process, students are dissecting the concepts and events of the Westward Expansion era, including: Louisiana Purchase, Trail of Tears, commercial agriculture, Mexican-American War, and Manifest Destiny. Students are being led by the driving question: how can we turn our territory into a state using American History as our guide? The culminating performance task involves assessment by the teacher as well as feedback from 6th and 7th graders in the building.
