Two months ago after the big fire we rescued an orphan lamb who lost his mother at just one day old. We have been bottle feeding him. He wears diapers and lived in our house till he was big enough to be outside with our dog who is his best friend. He is a wild Hawaiian sheep. It feels good saving an animals life! ~Alistair

My ohana and I helped cut & remove string from this young Manu Iwa (Frigatebird). We found it along the Oneula shoreline. It was exhausted with its wings and feet tangled in string. We called DLNR Animal Rescue. They'll malama the Manu Iwa & help return it to the wild & to its ohana. :)

Me and my Ohana went to the park and we saw two baby manu on the ground. We thought they were dead. Then we realized that a mongoose had eaten one of them. The other was still alive. We put it in our box with tissue paper and brought it home. We fed it a special mix for baby manu. It started to grow up and its wings started to form. After a while it could fly. Then after one month of having him, we finally were able to give him seeds and worms. Yes. I said worms! He was a red crested cardinal. That meant that he was a Gaper. Which also meant that he was supposed to eat worms. When a birds beak is kind of long but pointy, they are supposed to eat worms. Anyway, we had to feed him every 30 minutes. Exactly! We also had to take with us everywhere we went! After a while we could take him outside. Sometimes we left him there and came back to get him. One day he was gone! He was ready for the wild! But, just so we don’t worry to much, the manu still comes back to see us every once in a while and perches on our shoulder. You want to hear something funny. The reason we were at the park was to shoot a music video. So when we found the bird, the only box we had was a Canon box (that’s a type of camera). So we named the manu… Canon! I hope you enjoyed this act of Aloha. I also hope that you can use the information I put in here if you need help rescuing a bird. If it is not endangered or native to Hawaii, you don’t need to call an animal rescue organization. You can do it yourself. If your parents let you of course. Remember that if the animal is endangered or Native, call animal rescue immediately. Only touch the animal when necessary, and when you do, try to cover your hands.

Sorry if I got carried away lol!
