In the Cell Theory video, Sal from Khan Academy explained to me that the first person to discover “cell theory” was Robert Hooke. In 1665, Hooke published his own book, Micrographia, where he explained about his research on dead cells and that the tiny cells looked like apartments monks lived in at monasteries. A few years later, Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, a Dutch lens crafter, crafted special lenses and made his own telescope to observe live cells. But it was not until 100 to 150 years later that the basics for “modern cell theory” were developed. In the 1850s, Matthias Schleiden and Theodor Schwann were the first to lay down the basics for “modern cell theory”. Later, Robert Remak developed the idea that “All cells came from other cells”. But then, a man named Rudolph Virchow plagiarized Remak’s work and earned all the credit which was supposed to go to Robert Remak.

In this lesson, I learned about the discovery of cells. I learned about Robert Hooke, who made the first microscope. Hooke also examined dead cells and wrote a book called Micrographia in 1665. In Micrographia, he sketched the dead cells he saw. Then, because he noticed that the cells had monastery-like compartments, he called cells: cells. So that is how cells were first discovered and named. Then, Antonie van Leevewehook(I don't know how to spell his name properly) began looking at living cells instead of dead ones and made observations. Leevenwehook was also a lens maker for microscopes that made it possible to look through microscopes with more detail. Finally, Schuleiden and Schwann began to wonder if all life is made of one or more cells or if cells are the basic unit of life. So Schwann decided to do rigorous research and concluded that the answer to both was yes. However, Schuleiden stole and plagiarized the work until future research was made and learned that Schuleiden had lied. So finally, the discovery of cells has let us learn about many medical phenomenons. Without all of these scientists, many diseases and injuries would be life-threatening and nobody would know why. Today, some of my questions included: How many cells die a day? Could cells be found on non-living things(if blood was thrown onto a wall and cleaned)? Do children have different cells? Why do animal cells have a thicker barrier?

In 1665, Hooke decided to look at dead cork cells by using a simple magnifying glass. Hooke noticed that it looked oddly familiar. He thought of the rooms that monks inhabited called cellula and therefore named it after that. Later, Antoine Van Leeuwenhoek decided to take a closer look at this theory. He was the first man to see living cells sperm. Not only that, he was the first person ever to use a microscope.

Unfortunately this microscope only allowed him to see the dead tissue around the actual cell. Then came Antoine Van Leeuwenhoek who was a Dutch lens crafter. Using his knowledge on lenses he was able to craft a better microscope which allowed him to actually observe cells. Later in the 1800,s 2 men named Matthias Schneider and Theodor Schwaan believed that all life was created of one or more cells. Lastly in the mid 1800,s a man named Robert Remak developed a theory about cells saying that all cells come from other cells which is the theory that we still believe after all those years.

In this lesson I learned all about Cell Theory. Did you know we are made up of 37 trillion cells. Now you are probably thinking that if there are that many cells how come we can’t see it with our own eyes. Well these cells are really tiny, and now matter how hard you try you will not be able to see your cells with the naked eye. But there is this thing called the microscope, which brings me to my next question who invented the microscope? It was invented by a man by the name Robert Hooke. He created this as a way to see cells. He invented this in 1665. Now over time another man came along his name Anthony Van Leewanhoek. He was inspired by Hooke and decided to make it better so he started making lenses and doing glass work. Did you know that all living things have cells if they doing not they are not classified as a living thing. As you get older the cells in your body start vanishing which causes you to slow down and eventually die, making you non-living.

He also made a book called the micrographia. In the micrographia he made drawings of cells. Around 100 years later Antoine vanleevanhook observed dead cells and alive cells more up close. The reason he was so good at observing cells was because he was a lens maker. Around 50 years later in the 1830s two people from Germany schliden and Schuan thought of the cell theory and that cells are a basic unit of life.

I learned a lot about cells this lesson for example, i learned that when you grow your cells are expanding and growing, although if you do skin your knee or lose any type of skin then it will stop growing and regrow those cells and once your cells repair then you keep growing. If it wasn’t for Robert Hooke then we would have probably found out about how cells work not that long ago and he also made a book about his observations about the cells which was a very good idea, it is called “micrographia” this book changed the perspective of everything, we should all give a special thanks to Robert hook for taking his time to make a micro scope and make a book about how they work and look thank you Robert hooke. There was also a theory that issac newton destroyed the last portrait of Robert hooke because he wanted to be the smartest scientist.

There was a man named Robert Hooke who in 1665 published a book called Micrographia and he also invented the microscope which could only see dead tissue around the actual cell. Then there was a man named Antoine Leevewehook began looking at living cells instead of dead ones

The answer to the EQ is that the cells are just honestly too small.
What I learned is that the first person to ever discover the cell was a man named Robert Hooke. He looked under the first microscope, and saw this small little squares. He called them cells, after the housing of monks. Isaac Newton was said to have destroyed the only portrait of Hooke, so we don’t know how he looks. (I watched something on this so I already knew this.)
Later, Antoine von Leeuwenhoek discovers the LIVING cell. Hooke was only looking at dead ones. Leeuwenhoek was a lens-maker. He carved a lens to make a now-improved microscope.
Later, Matthias Schleiden and Theodor Schwann discover the first two rules of our modern cell theory:
1. All life is based from cells
2. The cell is the basic unit of life
The third rule did not come until later. Schleiden and Schwann did witness cells reproducing, and thought that some cells reproduced, while others just… spontaneously emerged.
Even later, Robert Remak studied cells some more, and discovered the third rule of the cell theory:
3. All cells come from other cells.
Sometimes the credit goes to Rudolf Virchow, but actually, he plagiarized Robert Remak!
People are still trying to figure out how to explain that, because cells have to have come from SOMETHING back in the very beginning!
(Maybe because we’re all made of star dust, the very fist life was created by malfunctioning star dust)
