It has helped me think about communicating not just in my "comfort zone" but being willing to step into theirs. In class, I use GoNoodle, Educational Youtube clips and "Tik Tok-like" strategies that have helped keep their attention spans a little longer. I have also started integrating more curriculum that fits their needs/attention span by merging it into Canvas so that it is a bit more appropriate for them than just the set curriculum alone.

In addition, I used some Character Education products that I purchased in TPT. In January, my class will start a program that I call, Hearts' Stories (basically an classroom interview process) that help students:
1. Celebrate Diversity
2. Experience different families and cultures
3. Provide authentic standards based integrated writing/listening/speaking experiences for Kindergarteners.

I really enjoyed teaching with Second Steps when I was in-person. The lesson were very relatable to the students and we could make a situation as if it might happen in our classroom. The students become relatable to the stories. I enjoyed the catchy songs that they play or went along with the lessons.

I was honestly surprised at the actual time of their attention span. My son is ADHD, which he no doubt got from myself and my family, but I did not realize that there was an entire generational drop in the amount of time kids focus. I have been dealing with such a short attention span my whole life and trying to help my son navigate the best way to handle his for the last 14 years, I didn't even realize I had been providing the same skills to my students that both my son and I use to help stay engaged. This is one of the videos I made for the end of a session with my homeroom kiddos.

I absolutely love this resource. I was trained in this program years ago. It is free to access these resources. This source is great for Elementary. There are stories and questions provided to help drive instruction. As for StrongMIND, I absolutely love the section on Responsible Decision Making. It's important that our students are strong in this area as online learners.

I have always had to have a list of some form to keep my self straight on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. I love using "My Tasks" on my google Calendar to make sure I get everything done that I need to, and I even have random reminders scheduled in for me to go through and look for updates on different things. This has been a lifesaver for SPED forms, grading and updating the faculty journal.

Remember: We need to capture their attention and remember to make videos for them. *video announcements, *video directions, *video feedback...Students desire "face to face interaction". A video is 1 way to get that "face to face" interaction. :)
