         <description><![CDATA[<div>The investigation into mathematics involves solving problems encountered in everyday life or other school subjects (physics, chemistry, biology, sociology, etc.), but also exploring unknown mathematical concepts using known methods, techniques, concepts. Example topic: Determining and comparing distances in the near environment. Required materials: a map of the local area, endowed with a scale. Students collect information about the distances their colleagues go through to school, record this information in tables, compare and classify the information in order to more easily extract relevant data for the questions asked. Data processing aims to get answers to the following types of questions: Who lives closest to school? But the farther? How shorter is the first distance from the second? How many times? How many children live longer than 1 km away from school? Compare with the number of children living at a distance closer than 1 km. Make other comparisons.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I often try to critically analyse with students commercials we see on TV. There is a water softener’s advertising jingle which says “The washing machine lives longer with X”: is it true that X reduces water hardness?<br>I phase: brainstorming to highlight what students already know about water hardness </div><div>II phase: students are invited to find out what else they need to know to test the efficacy of X and then they organise groups to split the work up and search for information on the Internet (They’re expected to ask themselves questions like “Which substances make water hard? How can I measure water hardness? “ ….)</div><div>III phase: each group prepares a protocol (the teacher will then provide those materials not present in the lab, for example the Marseille soap solution used to “quantify” Ca<sup>2+</sup> and Mg<sup>2+</sup> “measuring” the formation of a long-lasting foam; students bring water from their home…). In sunflower oil are added water and food coloring (red or blue).</div><div>3. After that we add to the vessel effervescent aspirin and observe a striking effect.</div><div>4. During the reaction, the colored water rises and falls in oil, not mixing with it. And if you turn off the light and turn on the flashlight - "real magic" will begin.</div><div>"Water and oil have different density, besides they have the property of not mixing, no matter how we shake the bottle. When we add effervescent tablets inside the bottle, they dissolve in water and begin to release carbon dioxide and drive the fluid."</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>One of my favorite inquiry activities is done with 6<sup>th</sup> graders (11 year olds) involves finding out whether our body temperature changes as a result of physical exercise. My first question to them is “does our body temperature change with exercise”. Students discuss providing reasons for their predictions as a result of their experience. We then plan our procedure and the data to be collected. Eventually we evaluate our results and make conclusions about our body temperature. The only apparatus required is a simple body digital thermometer. Kids really enjoy the activity and for a logistics point of view it is simple in terms of resources required and does not require extensive amount of time.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I really like this IBL activity. I always plan on doing this practical with my 14 year old students and unfortunately by the time I come to tackle the topic of enzymes I seem to run out of time and always end up skipping it. This year I will come rain or shine I will make sure I carry out this didactic activity. A simple inquiry activity that I enjoy doing with my students is how sun-dried tomatoes are made. So they research how they are made and come to school with their tomatoes ready to dry them out. They usually cover them in salt and within 30 mins they begin to notice that salt starts to turn into a concentrated salt solution. I then ask questions like ' Where is the water coming from?' and 'Why?' . Ultimately this will lead to students coming up with their own definition of Osmosis.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A very easy way for verifying enzymes is an experiment with a banana peel. You heat water and split the peel into two smaller pieces. Then you cook one piece for about 20 seconds and the other one for 1 minute. Most of the time the pupils are surprised why the one-minute-cooked don’t get as brown as the 20-seconds-cooked. This is because after a few seconds you destroy the cell membrane and phenol and phenol-oxidase meet and react together. After cooking the peel for 1 minute you destroy the cell membrane, but also the enzymes, so that the reaction can’t take place and the peel doesn’t get as brown as the peel you’ve cooked for only a few seconds. This also explains why apples or potatoes get brown after cutting.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<h1><mark>Toothpaste Experiment With Eggs and vinegar.</mark></h1><div>This experiment is designed to show how fluoride protects the calcium in eggshells against the softening effects of acid. <br>Fluoridated toothpaste is used to coat part of an egg, which is then soaked in vinegar for 24 hours. <br>The vinegar will soften the toothpaste-free part of the egg shell, while the part covered by toothpaste remains hard. I carried out, in collaboration with my religious colleague, a simple experiment to extract the DNA from the banana. Also in this case materials easily available by the boys were used. The activity was also carried out in the laboratory with the tutoring of older children. The students were divided into small groups and were active protagonists of the research.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Only 3 days ago I took part in an experiment with 815 other schools. This experiment had to do with the calculation of the circumference and the radius of the Earth, it is the so-called experiment of Eratosthenes.</div><div>The question was, "Can you calculate the length of the Earth's periphery from your school yard without having to travel?"</div><div>The experiment must be performed on a specific date when we have equinox above the equator. We will need simple materials such as an object that should be perpendicular to the surface of the ground, a tape measure and a protractor. It is not an expensive IBL method but with little effort can be done.<br>You have to forgive me that the worksheets are not translated, but I do not have time to do it. Post your proposals below! </strong></div><div>Last semester we did an experiment with our high school students to test the influence of heat and acid in the activity of the enzyme catalase. Materials included pieces of beef liver, vinegar, a water boiler, some H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub> and test tubes.  Each group of students had to find out the effect low pH and high temperature on the activity of catalase that is found in the liver. The experiment is very simple, the materials are very cheap and the results of catalase activity of the fresh liver in the breakdown of H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub>  is quite a sight.  <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I remembered the experiment that can be done with pre-school children, how to make ice cream without the use of a freezer, so that we use the power of salt. Put a spoon of chocolate, a spoon of cream and two tablespoons of milk in a glass jar and mix well. Place the glass in the bowl between the ice cubes that we have salted. We load more ice cubes around the glass and salt is poured over them. We cover the kitchen cloth completely so that the bowl does not penetrate the heat from the outside. Let it rest for one hour and check that the mixture in the glass has solidified. This creates a real ice cream.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I remember an experiment in which we have proposed to measure water retention capacity by various types of soils. The investigation protocol consisted in measuring the length of the drainage process of a given quantity of water through a given type of soil. For this, we put a sample of soil in a flower bush, above a graduated vessel. We poured 100 ml of water and waited for it to accumulate in the graduated vessel. We measured the length of the process and measured how much water was recovered in the graduated vessel to find out how much water the ground sample retained.</div><div>In another experiment, we want to find out how the state of the soil influences its ability to retain water. For this, I sprayed three samples of sand like this: the first sample was wet sand, the second was from terraced sand, and the third was from the sand on which the grasshopper sowed a while before. I found that in the first case the water flows smoothly and then quickly. In the second case, the water flows smoothly, without spreading the sand too much, and in the third case the sand does not scatter at all.</div>]]></description>

The task of the students, was to find out what happens when you put a coat on a snowman standing in the sun. Does it melt faster, slower or does it make any difference? To test this the students were given a piece of cloth, ice cubs and a lamp. Lipids contained in avocado or nuts will leave permanent fat stains on filter paper, whereas essential oils contained in orange peel, lemon peel or caraway applied to filter paper will yield a stain that resembels the stain created by a lipid at first. However, the stain created by the essential oil will soon disappear through evaporation, in contrast to the stain created by lipids, since lipids have a high boiling point.  </div>]]></description>

One of my favorites is the bacteria growth which can be gamificated in investigation stories.All you need is petri dishes,sugar ,jelly and a chicken cube.Mix them and fill the petri dishes with the jelly.Once is cold enough open dishes and get them in touch each on seperate places of your enviroment. Leav them aside and one week later different bacteria will fill each petri dish.</div>]]></description>

Be sure you have different flavors and brands. BE SURE that some are diet, “zero,” and regular.</div><div>·&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Have students predict which sodas will sink and which will float. (I have my kids create their own predictions/results chart in their science journals.)</div><div>·&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; After students have independently recorded their predictions. Have them share in the whole-class setting. (I create a whole-class predictions/results chart to record our class data.) Have the students explain their thinking while sharing their predictions.</div><div>·&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Place soda cans in a clear tank. (A large plastic tub will also work- if it’s big enough that students can easily observe the results by looking at it from a bird’s eye view.)</div><div>·&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Spoiler: Some of the soda cans will sink while others float.</div><div>·&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Have the students observe and record the results.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Pineapple is a fruit rich in an enzyme called bromelain. This enzyme has the power to break the bonds between amino acids, thereby destroying protein. Therefore, when the gelatin comes into contact with the pineapple, it remains softened, as it has its entire chain of amino acids broken. Therefore, many people put the flesh in contact with pineapple juice for a few minutes so that the meat is softer.<br><br>In the experiment proposed below, we will see what the enzyme present in pineapple is capable of doing with collagen, the protein found in gelatin. This experiment can be done when the teacher is working on proteins and the action of the enzymes, so that the student sees how they act.<br><br>Materials needed<br><br>- Unflavored gelatin;<br><br>- Slices of ripe pineapple;<br><br>- Other fruits such as apple, banana, pear;<br><br>- Plastic pots.<br><br>How to make<br><br>- Make the gelatin without flavor, following the instructions of the package;<br><br>- Put the melted gelatin in three plastic cups;<br><br>- In one of the pots, put pieces of pineapple; in another pot put pieces of another fruit; and in the third pot put only the melted gelatin;<br><br> - Put all the pots in the refrigerator and wait about thirty minutes;<br><br>- After time, remove the pots from the refrigerator and observe what happened.<br><br>After removing the pots from the refrigerator, it will be possible to observe that in the pot that contained the pieces of pineapple, the gelatin did not harden; and in jars that contained pieces of other fruit, or contained nothing, the gelatin hardened normally.<br><br>Papaya and kiwi can also be used to make this experiment because these fruits also contain enzymes, papain and ficin, respectively, that break down proteins. But avoid using these fruits together to avoid confusion.</div>]]></description>
