Luke is traditionally thought of as one of Paul's traveling companions and it's certainly the case that the author of Luke was from those Greek cities in which Paul had worked.

Atena

Why was this Gospel given the names we have today?

• Because it is the name of one of Jesus' disciples and the title of one of the four New Testament gospels, the name "Matthew" is well-known in the Bible and Christian traditions. One of the twelve followers of Jesus, the one who established Christianity, in the first century BCE, was Matthew.

For whom was this Gospel written?

• Matthew's gospel is clearly written for a Jewish Christian audience living within the immediate proximity of the homeland itself. Matthew's is the most Jewish of all the gospels.

What was this Gospel based on?

• The story about Jesus's miraculous conception; an explanation of the importance of liturgy, law, discipleship, and teaching; and an account of Jesus's life

How short is this Gospel compared to the other Gospels?

• It is the shortest and the earliest of the four Gospels.

What is the focus of this Gospel?

• present Jesus as a teacher even greater than Moses

Is this Gospel similar or is it presented quite differently?
