         <description><![CDATA[<div>Definition<br>Hybrid electric vehicles are powered by an <strong>internal combustion engine and one or more electric motors, which uses energy stored in batteries</strong>.<br><br>Advantage<br>-Hybrids have <strong>better fuel efficiency and conserve more energy, thus emitting fewer carbon emissions</strong>. Less Fossil Fuel Dependency: Since hybrid vehicles are able to utilize the high voltage battery pack and electric motor(s) for propulsion, they don't rely on fossil fuels as much as standard gas cars.&nbsp;<br><br>Disadvantages</div><div>- Less power: Hybrids combine both an electric motor and a gasoline engine, with their gasoline engine primarily operated as the power source. Therefore, neither the gasoline engine nor the electric motor works as strongly as they do in conventional gasoline or electric cars. But Hybrids work just fine for “normal” drivers who usually drive around the city.</div><div>- Poor handling: Hybrids have more machinery than conventional cars, which adds extra weight and reduces fuel efficiency. So, hybrid car manufacturers have had to make smaller engines and batteries to cut down on weight. But this results in reduced power for the vehicle and support in the body and suspension.</div><div>- Electrocution risk: The batteries in hybrids contain a high voltage, which can increase the risk of the passengers and rescuers being electrocuted in the event of an accident.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Hybrid technology systems combine two or more technologies with the aim to achieve efficient systems.&nbsp;</li><li>Possible combinations are: wind-solar photovoltaic (PV) hybrid systems, wind-diesel hybrid systems, fuel cell-gas turbine hybrid systems, wind-fuel cell hybrid system.</li></ul><div><br></div><div><strong>1. Wind-PV Hybrid System</strong><br><em>The wind/engine generator acts a backup supply for the AC (alternating current) loads which can be supplied directly to the load without the use of inverter units; the electricity generated from PV is DC (direct current) by nature.<br></em><br></div><div><strong>2. Wind-Diesel Hybrid Systems<br></strong><em>By connecting a wind turbine to a diesel generator back-up system, an uninterrupted power supply can be acquired and the diesel generator will take over production when the power generation from the wind turbines is temporarily insufficient to cover the grid demand.&nbsp;</em></div><div><br></div><div><strong>3. Fuel Cell-Turbine (FCT) Hybrid System<br></strong><em>In this direct operating mode, the fuel cell serves as the combustor for the gas turbine. Residual fuel in the high temperature fuel cell exhaust mixes with the residual oxygen in an exothermic oxidation reaction to further raise the temperature. Both the fuel cell and the gas turbine generate electricity. In an indirect mode, the recuperator transfers fuel cell exhaust energy to the compressed air supply, which in turn drives the turbine. The expanded air is supplied to the fuel cell.&nbsp;</em></div><div><br><strong>4. Hybrid Electrics Car</strong><br><em>Hybrid electric vehicles are powered by an internal combustion engine and one or more electric motors, which uses energy stored in batteries. A hybrid electric vehicle cannot be plugged in to charge the battery. Instead, the battery is charged through regenerative braking and by the internal combustion engine. The extra power provided by the electric motor can potentially allow for a smaller engine. The battery can also power auxiliary loads and reduce engine idling when stopped.<br></em><br></div><div><mark>BENEFITS</mark></div><ul><li>They are ideal for remote and isolated applications such as communications stations, military installations, islands and rural villages.</li><li>Save the environment by using a renewable source.</li></ul><div><br></div><div><mark>DEFICIENCIES</mark></div><ul><li>Hybrid systems combine numerous electricity production and storage units to meet the energy demands of a given facility or community.</li><li>Hybrid systems generally have a relatively high investment cost.</li><li>These technologies have several technical barriers which include: requirement of redundant generation systems, a time limitation for the generation of electricity, need for sophisticated control systems, need for storage systems, and transmission line losses.</li></ul><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
