My understanding of the American Dream can be different from others. My American Dream is to be able to live a good life and find a job that I love. The American Dream is to have the freedom to choose. For example, the freedom to live, the freedom of speech, and the freedom to love whoever I want to love. The American Dream provides opportunity. Opportunity to work as hard as you want, to find a job you want, and to build a family. The American dream can be different from others from how they grew up.

American Dream by MKTO
"This ain't the same summer song that you used to know, 'Cause Jack left Diane 30 years ago."
This shows that the ideal couple, Jack and Diane, weren't perfect. The American dream used to be Marrying a beautiful wife and having two kids in a nice house with a white fence. With two people like Jack and Diane, they lived it until jack left Diane.
"Let's live and die before we're getting old. You know that nothing is the way it used to be, so tell me what happened to the American Dream."
This is saying that the American Dream has changed, the white fences and the palm trees are not ideal anywhere you live besides Beverly Hills in California. It changed and it's also different depending on the person. People now just want to be able to live freely and enjoy life.

The idea of the American Dream can be a wide range of ideas, depending on who you talk to. My definition of the American Dream is, being able to live the life I want to live and to obtain anything that's important to me. Growing up, I left my home in Florida to move to California to become a rock star. I was willing to leave my parents to achieve my dreams. One thing my parents taught me, was to go to college. This wasn't in my plans because I believed I could be a rock star. A couple years after moving to Los Angeles, I met my wife and eventually started a family together. The dream of being a rock star shortly died after seeing how amazing my life was with my wife and kids. I believe the American Dream is realistic to achieve, as long as you work hard and become willing to make accommodations, the dream is possible. The United States is still "The land of opportunity" because I am free to work as hard at whatever i desire and achieve what I want. I've learned to never quit, dream big, and try everything.

In this article, the author states how the American dream is alive and well, but it has changed. For example, the author states "In the old version, the American Dream was all about owning a home, getting rich, and doing better than one’s parents. In this survey, only 16 percent agreed that becoming wealthy was essential to achieving the American Dream, while 59 percent said home ownership was essential, down from previous years." This is saying how things have completely changed from how it used to be known. Most people don't think that being wealthy is the biggest thing about living, although being wealthy would be nice, it's not the most important thing to people anymore. What's important to people is having a home and being able to truly live. Another example in the article, she says "about 80 percent of the respondents believe that they are either living the American Dream or on their way to achieving it. And these results are pretty much the same across racial and income lines, and for Independents and members of the two main political parties." This states that people are living their american dream or they're building up to it. It doesn't matter what you look like or where you're from, all that matters is how hard you work to achieve what you want.

In the Distance Between Us, the book takes us through a girl's life. Reyna Grande came from nothing in Mexico, to crossing the United States border with her father, getting her green card to be worth millions of dollars. Reyna says, "I became a citizen of the United States. I have now been in this country for 7 years. The United States is my home; it is the place that allowed me to dream, and later, make those dreams into realities." (Grande 320). Grande states how the American Dream is real because it allowed her to come to the "land of opportunity" and it has truly allowed her to dream. She dreamed of becoming a writer, and now she is an amazing writer and she still talks about her book to this day. This proves that the american dream is still alive and it has changed from what it used to be, of the two kids and white fences, but her American dream is to be able to dream and live the life shes always wanted.

This video states that everyone believes that the American Dream is different. It has evolved into people wanting freedom over wealth. Having big houses and having money is no longer important. Being happy in your own environment, happy with the job you have and having the ability to dream. The American dream is different depending on how you grew up. Therefore the American Dream is a way for people to live the life they want to live with all the opportunities provided.
