The biggest takeaway I got from Active Supervision is when my eyes and ears are engaged with children they are safe. I will strive to communicate with my team to stay on schedule and constantly utilize the name to face chart. I am new so I felt a little unsure of how to set the environment of the classroom to honor active supervision. However after learning from this weeks module I think I will do just fine if I remain intentional on what goes into the classroom as well as avoiding creating spaces for children to hide and/or not be in a teachers direct view.

My biggest takeaway from active supervision was the counting. It was a little difficult in the beginning of our first day of class to remember everyone's name and go through it in my head while trying to keep a head count. It was a lot simpler to just have a number that needed to be matched and basically just count to 10 to make sure they were all there.

Waiting until they are unable to solve problems on their own to get involved seemed like a helpful way to provide support without discouraging independence.

Previously, in other centers that I've worked, they stress the importance of counting your students, but not naming them during each transition. Now, after using the charts for a couple days, I see how important it is to not only know the number, but know which students you are meant to have with you each day.

My biggest takeaway about active supervision is that being in a classroom requires you to really be engaged with all of your senses to make sure that everyone stays safe while also attending to the children you’re actively interacting with. In addition to that, I think that for me personally, anticipating behaviors that I know a child might be likely to exhibit really keeps me grounded and aware of my surroundings so that I can be ready to use my senses for any issues that may arise.
