         <description><![CDATA[<div>- It has been proven that when student voices are heard in the classroom and they feel respected, student engagement increases which ultimately leads to higher student achievement. (Cummins, et al., 2005; Flessa et al., 2010; Leithwood, McAdie, Bascia, &amp; Rodrigue, 2006; Willms, Friesen, &amp; Milton, 2009). <br>- Students as 'Partners in Change.' which gets students more involved in their learning, the quality of teaching and the school as a whole (Hargreaves &amp; Shirley, 2009) <br>-Inspired Instruction is all about making learning memorable and relevant and encourages us to want to learn more (Cummins, 2006). </div>]]></description>

         <title>Practical Strategies</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Getting to know your students: Ice breaker activities, having conversations with your students about their interests or what they did over the weekend etc.<br>- Collaborative learning: get students working in mixed groupings to allow them to learn about, from and with each other.<br>- Make learning relatable (incorporate student's interests and use real life problems)<br>-What type of learners are your students? Use Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Survey to determine the types of learners in your class to guide instructional strategies.<br>-Communication with parents is key to increase student engagement and create a sense of community.&nbsp;<br>-Provide cross-curricular connections where you can&nbsp;<br>-Co-construct classroom rules and expectations with students<br>-Co-construct success criteria with students and have it visible in the classroom.<br>-Ensure your classroom is inclusive and that all students are represented.<br>-Display student work&nbsp;<br>-Make learning visible in the classroom (use of the third teacher): anchor charts and interactive learning charts.<br>- Activate student's prior knowledge (diagnostic assessments)<br>-Have students participate in self and peer assessment: provides authentic feedback.<br><br></div>]]></description>
