Symbols:
-The dance at the ending: The dance at the end symbolizes freedom. This is because the ballerinas and Harrison break free from their handicaps and began to dance, representing them becoming free from the government's control.
-The birdshot: The birdshot is used to weigh down the ballerinas so that they are average. This represents forcing equality because the birdshot is only used to inhabit people's abilities and make everyone the same.
Topics:
-Freedom: Freedom is what the main characters are trying to achieve, something that got taken away from them by the government.
-Equality: The entire story the government is working to make everyone equal and the same. This is what causes the conflict in the story.
Themes:
-Freedom doesn't always come easily.
-Forced equality can be dangerous.

It conveniently turned off after a ringing to stop the people from understanding the idea of rebellion.
Handicaps on Harrison: The handicaps represent the suppression of people with extraordinary abilities, their exaggerated
disadvantages representing their inequalities.
2 Themes:
No matter how strongly or vehemently you attempt to suppress a group or person, they cannot be stopped entirely or completely.
Equality achieved by repressing the individuality of others is not true or complete.
