With my students we usually made CLIL physics activities by using the call book, at the end of every chapter there is a form devoted to CLIL in physics. The more amusing instrument is kahoot, by using the multiple choiche question approach, and by using their mobile devices they produce a moment of deep learning by using technology in a more deep sense than the usual that they consider.

I think an idea it’s to create a short video where the students present a topic of my subject. They have to choose what to put in the video and how to present it, so they have to rework what they have learned. Of course they’ll have to use a language different from their own. In the primary school where I teach, last year my students made a prototype of the cell with plasticine and various objects. The students described the cell to their classmates in English by naming all their parts. I think that the manipulative works are very motivating

When my students work in e Tiwnning projects they usually learn to use different digital tools so they integrate the topics of learning with digital products and English competences. I did an event about teaching culture. Before entering the subject, I determined the values of students' local cultures. I gathered students with similar cultural values in the same group. I asked them to write words about food, sport, dance, customs and traditions in both their English and their native languages. Then they transformed them into painting. Then they created a sample story that was within these words and cultural values. At the end of the course I was very happy.

I do a lot of classes in the lab of computers in the class of filosophy with the main goal to search for knowledge in the internet, to critisize and choose what is right for the topic in groups with target roles in order to create a power point or a presentacion and to present it in front of the class with questions at the end. I don't have experience in CLIL yet, But I think for CLIL activities it could be important to motivate students by using tools that can allow them to interact in classroom such as Ipad or computers .
For example during Art's lesson each student could choose an artist, making researches and finding importants painting using digital tools and foreign language to learn specific vocabulary and improve language skills as well.

The more effective CLIL lesson I've proposed was a module about "Revolution". The starting point was the different meaning of the word, then I divided the students in groups, each one was requested to explorate the main revolutions of the history (industrial, English, French, American....) using online materials and TIC tools to create a product. I have worked together with the science teacher in an activity about sustainability. We have also organized a conference with an expert, using ICT devices to ask questions and make polls in real time (writing and reading skills). The students also asked direct questions to the expert (speaking and listening skills). At the end of the activity the students were asked to prepare a short video / ppt presentation about present world situation and possible solutions. (collaborative task, team work, creativity, problem solving). My insight on this: it took a lot of time to prepare, but the results were remarkable, students were engaged and motivated, they enjoyed the lessons...and they have learnt something new and interesting!!

When I was preparing my first lesson about colours, names and introducing to counting, I planned these items because I knew our students already knew some colours and we had been practising greetings and asking names informally with them in the classroom and in the playground. Ionly have 2 weeks’ time with them and we must not forget that they are adapting to a new school, new teacher and… a new World! They are in the first year! But… regardless that…they are eager to learn.

So, I showed my learning objectives for the class and “played around” with key language: naming colours, asking names, asking for help to correct “possible” mistakes and here and then some Portuguese appeared, some English appeared, some gesture appeared, and communication went on! In the end, a song was sung and students repeated successfully what we had been practicing: colours, names and numbers till 10.

It was a simple lesson, with simple materials and simple ideas but during assessment we were aware of its effectiveness. Children participated and were motivated. This theme is being introduced as a Estudo do Meio content:

As I alreay wrote above, I only experienced CLIL concerning Arts. I teach English and last year we analysed a painting from a very specific point of view as we were studying it in the subject called "Arts". As a matter of fact our book was already set on a CLIL module and that simplified my job a lot. Later on each student chose a painting and described it using the ESP learnt in the module. That way the feedback turned out to be very positive, they expressed their personal opinion starting from an objective study of the chosen topic using a very specific lexicon.

I alredy wrote above, I only experienced CLIL in poetry. we read the song in Russian, and then we analyze it on a Serbian.

We worked about sustainability and transport in an eTwinning CLIL project in English as a secnd language together with the Science, Maths and Geography teachers. I’m sharing below an extract from the draft of my learning scenario .

Other worlds. Ancient Oriental Cultures observed from a geo-historic perspective.

1. After listening at their own home to the audio-lesson made by the teacher in the target language (English), pupils listen again all together in the classroom to the audio-lesson first, then they simultaneously listen to the audio and read the script shown on the whiteboard.

2. All the students discuss with their teacher the topic related to the audio and watch on the whiteboard a few images representing the contents of the audio listened before.

3. Work-teams formed of three or four students are created by lot in order to make each team a short video on a part of the audio-lesson.

4. While working on the video-making the pupils surf the net looking for further information and images or look it up in both dictionaries and encyclopaedias and textbooks to learn more on the subject.

5. Afterwards the pupils write the text of the video (they can also copy from the audio-lesson) and draw some pictures related to it to upload them on the video editing software.

6. After making the storyboard by dividing the text in sections and relating one or more images to each section, they create slides or video writing clauses from the storyboard and uploading the images related to it.

7. After making practice by reading aloud the text written before, the pupils record their voices while reading the text of the video.

8. The pupils syncrhronize the audio recorded to the presentation or video last.

9. Eventually the classmates share all together their works by screening them on the whiteboard.

1. The pupils will learn numbers up to 10 in different foreign languages spoken in the classroom. The pupils will decorate the numbers for a display and make a fotobabble (www.fotobabble.com recording reciting numbers in different languages.

A math crossword puzzle challenge it could be a mini CLIL activity can stimulate the students curiosity on their knowledge learned, and also, as a way catchy to consolidate learnig of new maths vocabulary. For exemple. Explained that "across" means write words in horizontal direction and "down" means write word in vertical direction. Put learners into group, A and B. A has the clues "across" an B has the clues "down". A ask B, "What's 1 down?" B says "points or ordered pairs of numbers" (COORDINATES). B then asks A, "What's 3 across?" A says "the point (0;0)" (ORIGIN). Continuing until the puzzle is solved. “Across” and “down” are examples of content-compatible language which the learners will probably know from their English classes. Last CLIL activity I tried with my students was an e-magazine we made with the summary of an Erasmus meeting that took place last September in Norway. I´m aware that it´s not related with teaching content but I can say it is related with knowledge and culture in general. My students used Flipsnack, and they wrote the texts in Portuguese and in English and then they presented the magazine to the school community the week after they return from the mobility.

Renewable energy (How we could save the Earth) - CLIL4YOU: a project involving French, English and Technology teachers, by networking with some other primary and secondary schools: we produced youtube channels, blogs, padlets... and a web site. Enriching experience, and very demanding too.

While working with young children between 5 and 7 years of age, I have found that eBooks are a great way to combine the visual side of the children’s work (e.g. photos of their hands-on learning, dialogues, acting out or miming activities, investigations, drawings, graphs, maps, etc) and the language of and through learning that I (the teacher) can include in the captions and short descriptions afterwards.

Moreover, with eBooks and Digital Notebooks created with Apps such as Book Creator, it is possible to embed audio recordings and short videos. This multimodal approach is very engaging for children and facilitates their overall comprehension of the task at hand and of the final product.

By making eBooks collaboratively and with teacher’s guidance/support, students are also more motivated to notice and use new vocabulary for the negotiations of appropriate titles, labels, icons and visual cues and/or to match pictures with their relative keywords.

Nevertheless, in Digital Notebooks and eBooks created with Apps such as Book Creator, it is possible to embed audio recordings and short videos.

A couple of years ago I proposed to my Art colleague a CLIL module based on Ai Weiwei. We took the students to an exhibition of Ai Weiwei's works and later on we planned our lessons. Students learned who he was, what and why he created those pieces of art we had observed at the exhibition.
We watched interviews and online documentaries, and we discussed his art. Students were asked to create some new artefacts which could report illegal or violent acts, report crimes... They worked in groups, they created objects and short films using Ai Weiwei modalities of denouncing and making people reflect on specific issues, and they also prepared a powerpoint presentation. We used word clouds and online tests. Students were really motivated and learned a lot...

I made an interesting project about malnutrition in collaboration with the Science teacher, the ICT teacher and the Italian teacher. The students collected materials about the importance of food, the consequences of malnutriion in some poor countries,, the child rights, the food of the past and the food of the future. they used the internet and even interwied old people on their habits in the past. A possible CLIL activity that I would do with my students would be a TOP of different types of movies they have seen and the feelings that they experienced. I would also add a special task that would develop listening skills: adding a song from the list of soundtracks of each movie. I usually choose topics concerning my subjects, History in particular, but sometimes also Italian Literature.

In our evening course we have less classes hours than traditional school has, so I try to optimize our time in order to help students learn more easily and memorize specific words.

I usually propose to read a text, sometimes I give different texts on a similar topic, then students in small groups search some information and deepening on the web using their own devices (school doesn’t provide any).

At last they could write down some notes and prepare a short presentation to the class.

We also write on the blackboard the new words they have found, and explain them.

I think this kind of activities could be very helpful for students in multilingual classroom because students can cooperate and help each others using the language they prefer and learning new words in Italian and improving their competence in understanding, writing and speaking.

However I’m not sure that doing CLIL activities in a foreign language could be helpful for foreign students, I suppose they could feel more confused, in a moment in which they have difficulties in learning Italian yet.

I did CLIL activities with my students for three times in the last three years. I'm an Italian, Latin and History teacher in a Liceo, so the only subject I can teach in CLIL methodology is History. I worked with students of the fifth year and I proposed them a Unit about the World War 1. They had every whole class in English and managed in taking notes and making questions in English too. We . focused on the theme of propaganda during the war and, in particular, on propaganda poster which are a new thing. I am a Language teacher in an upper secondary school (a technical institute) and I am cooperating with other subject teachers on CLIL activities, but in the last few years I have also planned and presented some activities on my own. Among the ones that I consider most successful are the ones on English history and in particular about great kings such as Richard I, John Lackland, and Henry VIII. During these lessons I start showing a representative short video about the charachter and then I ask students to do in groups some exercises to fix vocabulary and structures. Afterwards I ask the students to work in groups on a role play or an interview activity about the involved character, if I need them to practise their oral skills or to prepare a ppt presentation, if I need them to practice in writing. Generally they feel involved and their interest and committment grows more and more as long as they proceed with the activity.

Last year we involved 25 11 year old students in a CLIL pilot project and they loved doing it. They worked together with the teacher of Science and English and created a presentation of an experiment on DNA they made in class both using Italian and English. We gave them some material in both languages and they had to read, then they had to watch a video always in both languages so they had to watch and listen and at last they had to write and compare they ideas in pairs and small groups so they had to write and speak. We also shared this work with Finnish students of an etwinning project and got reactions from them and gave our feedback too. It was really a great experience.

We both feel the students are very motivated and really interested to these kind of activities. Last year we organized a Maths class in English dealing with proportions and percentage applied to everyday activities.The students prepared a recipe, First they decided about the ingredients for four people, Later they calculated the proportions for 90 students and teachers. They went to the grocery store and then prepared the recipe for all. The other students and teachers enjoyed! The students improved their mathematical knowledge about a wide range of topics related but not limited to: measuring ingredients, multiplying / dividing fractions to account for more or less than a single batch, dealing with simple financial operations.

Good evening, here’s maestra EmmaAn activity done with the 5 ^ (Primary school) is: "Designing my English party". The children in groups look for and develop the macroelements of the British party: theme, food, music and games, rhymed songs and riddles, decorations and costumes and a a planning for the party.Each group then presents its project presented as a drawing, a list, an activity and explains the elements in simple sentences.The children were involved in the proposal and found themselves, by choice, even outside the school to prepare their papers. During the last meeting, that of the presentations, we were very excited and satisfied. Making such a complex project (roles, guiding questions, video materials and games in language that would provide the basis on which the students then worked) would require more space, however, this feeling of mine confirms what Professor Coyle suggests, at least for me. These are memories that motivate me to continue to make experiences, even small ones, CLIL.

It was the year 2010 when I first tried a CLIL module in a primary school class, it was about a "GO GREEN" action and it was really exciting! Lots of non-verbal communication, use of visuals and a final video-making activity! Then, in 2013, I tried again, it was a Maths CLIL, again in a primary school class. Pupils were involved into simple counting in English, doing operations (additition, multiplication, and so on) and approaching the nature of Maths itself - its being logic and creativity at the same time, a bit of "intellectual challenge" and usefulness for a variety of practical everyday purposes. I've travelled a long distance since then, many other attempts have been made, now I think I'm ready for something new. My idea is to work with my 11-year 2.0 cl@ss on Flags and Nationalities together with my colleague teaching Geography. This time I would like to engage my pupils in a sort of "digital" contest, I'm just trying to understand how ... I'll let you know soon!

During these lessons I used pictures and placemat to make learners guess the title of the lesson. The use of videos in original language was also a very useful tool (students watch the videos twice). For learning the content I made them play with card to match definitions or vocabulary (related to the content). I think also that other games like snake-loop and hide and seek tasks can be used. Some times I prefer to start the lesson in the laboratory making students first to investigate and then to learn the content. To review content I experienced kahoot. Learners love this game. I always use the team option.

I do not have experience with CLIL activities. As I said, during these three years, I developed a project called “Citizenship and Costitution” [addressed to 23 children of different ages (between 6 and 10 years old) who did not attend courses of Catholic Religion] whose topics were defined by the Primary Teachers of the School where I work. It does not imply CLIL activities.
I am recfleting on a possible CLIL activity related to the topic (learning unit) “The Ancient Egyptians” and addressed to 9/10-year-old students. The titles of the sections of the learning unit I would like to focus on would be “The Ancient Egyptian writing system”.
I would prepare a short introduction, a PPT presentation made of two slides (“Hieroglyphics” and “The Rosetta Stone”) plus a youtube video https://youtu.be/WIjREbbFjNE in order to underline the relevant vocabulary associated with the topic, then I would present four following activities:

-A short quiz in order to use the new relevant vocabulary (I would use Wordwall), followed by questions made by the teacher to different students (in order to elicit individual answers).

-A short coding game (found on Pinterest, but modified by me): students have to decipher a short message using our alphabet, considering two other different codes simultaneously.

-Preparation of an “ancient papyrus leaf” using vinyl glue, gauze, vinyl glue plus coffee.

-Choice and reproduction of Hieroglyphics with their meaning on a piece of paper, followed by a short individual presentation of the artwork.

Finally, considering the Evaluation, every student should compile a self-assessment form (I would use Rubistar).

I teach History and my favourite CLIL lesson is about Italian, Spanish and French people who emigrated from Europe at the end of the XIX Century to USA. This is a CLIL + Drama lesson. I generally plan the setting two days before. One big classroom is changed into the Great Hall of Ellis Island. Another classroom becomes the Infirmary and another big room...a ship which is divided into three parts: first class/second class/ third class. All of the students keep a cardboard suitcase with them and when they arrive at New York harbour, they have to spend 2 hours at Ellis Island before getting into the Big Apple. During this time they have to be registered by the inspectors ( me and other two teachers who speak Spanish and French, which are the languages spoken by our students. Italian is forbitten) This is a very interesting activity beacuse the students can feel what the people who left italy, Spain and France, felt and in doing it they realize the importance of being helped and understood in the world. In the end we make a summary of the experience with a brain storming.

In 5th grade primary school classroom, I carried out an History CLIL activity focused on the Lucumone, the Etruscan king. At that time, children were studying Etruscans, so they were very interested in the activity. I introduced the topic with sone slide to scaffold both their linguistic and content learning, using pictures and target lexis. To create redundancy, I invited pupils to read and repeat in aloud voice all the sentences related to the pictures, then I asked them questions to understand if something wasn't clear. Later, I asked children to work in groups to do some activities like Cloze and T/F exercises, have linguistic interactions and prepare short reports. They had the opportunity to learn content, target lexis and linguistic structures, express thoughts, reflect on their own work and have fun too. Three years ago I experienced some history CLIL activities about ancient Greece so I realized that studying Greek mythology can be an incredibly exciting time for students.
At first I Introduced my pupils to the fascinating world of Greek mythology by some tales. Then they did an internet search to find out more about life and mithology in Ancient Greece and answer the questions.
A great way to involve students in mythology was to let them bring it to life by dramatization. For this activity, I assigned small groups of students to specific myths. Once they had read and discussed the myth, their task was to turn it into a script for a play.
Students assigned parts to group members, then they could practice and perform their mythological skits. Creating props, scenery and costumes could further involve my students in understanding life in ancient Greece. It was a wonderful experience and an engaging way to learn about life and belief systems in ancient Greece.

I would divide the class into groups. Each one is given starting material about Polinesia : historical background, geographic maps, social issues. Then each groups investigates about a particular aspect :

We could work in group about art. After choosing a painting, we could divide students in four groups. Each group research information about the painter, the time, the painting and the technique. They have to produce two/ three slide per group. Since Portuguese and Spanish are what we could call “brother and sister” languages, my students don’t have any problem to understand the message. Even more, I already showed this video in French classes, and it worked too. I think you should keep it simple. People remember what they had to think about. If I want my students to know something about the pH scale, I WOULDN"T get them to make an eBook because mostly they will be thinking about how the software works, how to set things out and other non-pH scale related things. In my teaching experience I have always wondered what could more inspire or motivate my students in learning English. Graded readers books may be the answer. They offer increasing grades or levels of difficulty. When I taught in the Primary school, I used to read fairy tales, known by children to facilitate the text comprehension. Since I have been teaching in the lower-secondary school I have been experimenting that the use of graded readers books are very important for the students learning. Two years ago my students of class 1 had the opportunity to read Alice in Wonderland. Last year they read Treasure Island. The choice of this book was linked to a theater project. Treasure Island is one of the most famous and loved books, a classic of the English Literature. It offered the opportunity to learn a great number of words, idioms, lexical items, dealing with some important themes like Hidden treasure, Escape ( the idea of escaping from poverty by finding treasure and escaping from one’s own country by travelling to exotic locations) . This story allowed to treat also other subjects: Modern Piracy and Internet Piracy, current issues and social problems that affect our society. To stimulate my students reading the book in English , I let them watch movies with subtitles in English . At the beginning they were capturated only by the immages but in the following lessons, they could read the subtitles and repeat some expression easily. After watching the videos, children were helped to share their ideas about the story and to draw pictures on their favourite characters or scenes . Then they made a story book, using a narrative text and their illustrations. They realised amazing presentation using storybird/ jumper tools, thanks to a group work. A group wrote the text, a second group searched animated immages and a third one searched the music.Their digital work was showed at the end school year event. This experience was extremely positive both for my students and for me.

I've no experience of CLIL approach in My classroom. I teach law in a Secondary High School. A possible CLIL activity in my field could be a trial simulation involving an interesting subject such as consumer class action. I can imagine my students acting in a role play activity( based on a precise research of class action case law) in which all students play the fundamental roles of a trial: prosecution, difence, jury, judge, witnesses etc ....
This activity would be reported in a video - recorded by an other student - to share with other classrooms.

I used he CLIL approach to start a multimedia project on how to survive year 4. We collated all their knowledge from both languages and they had to create a poster and vlog on how to be the best year 4 student. In the first place, I believe that as beginners (I am!) I should keep it simple. If considering doing it with other colleagues / other subjects, that would be another strong reason to keep it as simple as possible. In practical terms, I would suggest, for example, presenting a science / chemistry / geography / history… issue in English. That would involve collaboration between at least two teachers and students; another possibility would be to research a topic – whatever the issue – and present it in different languages. In my school, besides the mother tongue – Portuguese – we have English, French and Spanish So, why not present it for their teachers in different languages? Could be exactly the same topic or different parts of their research in different languages. Using digital tools, be it an ebook or any other, their outcomes would be available and accessible to all.

One of the challenges is that CLIL for technical subjects requires a depth in the explanation of technical topics that sometimes is difficult to achieve in a foreign language, both for the subject teacher and for the students. Carrying out a lexical, morphosyntactic and textual analysis, students understood the importance of drawing information also from paratextual elements. In particular, some of them, which usually look for information only in the text, realized that were not able to answer all the questions I gave them as a scaffolding for this activity, if they did not examine the annexed tables.

In addition, they found it very useful to compare the experts’ scientific style with the narrative style, they usually adopt in their written productions. Having understood that, they have now the expected tendency to avoid subjective expressions and paraphrases in their laboratory reports and other scientific Italian productions. They prefer imperative and passive forms instead of active ones and try to be more concise and precise in the choice of scientific terms. Furthermore, they have understood the utility of inserting pictures and other paratextual forms in their written productions.

This activity motivated them to learn new concept reading authentic scientific texts in internet and to reflect about some aspects of the history of the discipline and the importance of the scientific method that is inevitably performed and precisely reported by every scientist, whose scientific article was published.

I work in a rural area and the primary school decided to work on a project entitled “The Arouquesa Race” because the Arouquesa cow meat has a unique taste. These animals move slowly, are friendly and get easily frightened. Its robustness is unusual, having into account the food supplies they have through the mountain slopes. As Professor Coyle said: “the content must lead the way”. Now I must teach English while teaching Artistic Expressions related to the topic. I know that communication is a key term and I have to choose something quite visual that I can demonstrate. First, I am going to introduce the parts of the body of the cow: tail, horns, snout, eyes, ears, legs, body, teats. Then, I’m going to hand out a worksheet and ask children to color the animal in brown because this is a special feature of the “Arouquesa race”. I will ask them to color the animal labels using the same color as for the animal. Then they will glue them on the appropriate rectangles 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Finally, I will review the parts of the body: What part of the body is number 1? And number 3? I think it will be motivating and interesting.

Some CLIL activities I used last year included videos and handouts related to them (with matching exercises, fill in the gaps, etc. to fix new vocabulary), reading activities with questions or multiple choice exercises, class discussion about the topic (expressing opinions), quizzes, and so on. But the most meaningful, motivating activities were projects and group work: my Italian students made play-doh animal and plant cells with tags in English, they invented bioplastic objects and created special ads for them, they ran searches on differents kinds of animal behaviour, they filmed stop motion videos about landforms by using Picpac, they reproduced the experiment of a cloud in a bottle...and so on! They learnt content in a different way and they spoke English without focusing on it.

As I wrote in a previous padlet, I did a CLIL activity during Art class with primary school children. Topic: Flemish and Dutch art (the topic was in common to all classes, every class focused on a particular artist or art technique). In my class (6-7 year old) we focused on Flemish tapestry. First we made a spidergram with the word ART, then we show the European map, we watch a small video about Flemish art (only images and music), then we focus on tapestry, we showed to kids the images of a collection of tapestry about 5 senses and they had to guess which sense was represented. After that we work on vocabulary linked to art and tapestry though a memory game. During the last hour we asked the children to build their own loom and to create their tapestry piece of art.
7 year-old children enjoyed a lot this last activity, but it was a bit too boring for 6 year-old children because they wanted an immediate result (that's why we used also ribbon, not only wool).

Even though I have no experience with CLIL, I think a good activity for elementary children would be using the book Brown Rabbit’s Shapes to tackle shapes and colours. We could start by reading and listening to the story and then go round the school to identify similar shapes. We could then tackle Kandinsky’s paintings with shapes and research about his work. So, while working with vocational students of photography and fashion, I used the following method and learners were quite motivated. Together with my peers(Fashion, Photography, French, Portuguese, Art, and English teachers) we planned the lessons. The task was for learners to learn about fashion designers, develop reading and writing skills, expand vocabulary. The final project was a school presentation of their own fashion designs with a simple explanation in Englis, French and Portuguese.
We felt they were extremely motivated, very conscious of the responsibility of their task and having fun. Important to highlight these were student with an extreme lack of motivation for whomm school is "meangless".

For Christmas time I use planning activities about traditions and songs in the different cultures of the classroom. For third graders I would do this: On the first day of class, find out the native language, or the language spoken at home. Have students write their favorite color on cards in the language they master more.On different cards have them write also about their favorite dish and its ingredients; have them also write about their favorite pet and musical instrument. You the teacher, the next day should bring bilingual books and deliver them according to student´s native language. Usually in the second quarter , when the students have sufficient material, one of the activities that I do is the construction of a poster . The students, divided in groups of three, explain in spanish a topic of Technology helping themelves with photos, drawings etc.

The construction of the topic’s glossary is also required.

Each poster is discussed with the technology teacher and then illustrated to the class by the authors.

I've taught my students togheter with the Law teacher the different types of Parliament, I talked them about british and America Parliament and she explained the italian model then using English we compared the three systems.
They seemed really interested .

In my literature class I could probably invite students to share their favourite book, movie, poem… and we could compare the translations. Also, the native speaker could explain what is between the lines for the other students and/or the teacher. I continously see the oportunity to learn more in CLIL. The other ideas shared in Padlet are great, especially the more developed ones.

We have done a lot of simulations in history related to international relations such as the Security Council meeting concerning the 1950 North Korean attack. My students loved the assignment since they could be in roles and thus it was easier to use English.
