         <description><![CDATA[<p>Michael </p><p>Certain words in this routine cause confusion and misunderstanding between the characters because they are using normal words as people names people use every day. </p><p><br></p><p>The players names cause Abbott and Costello to misunderstand each other because the word naturally is used as one of the names, and the other meaning is the actual meaning.</p><p><br></p><p>The word who also uses word play. This word uses word play because it's a question word but, it's also being used as a name.</p>]]></description>

"Who". 'How does he sign". "Thats how he signs". "Who". "Yes". </p><p><br/></p><p>This is funny to the audince because Costello is getting angry because he thinks that Abbott is asking him the names but Abbott is actually telling him the names and is getting confused.</p>]]></description>

The certain words in the routine <em>Who's on first? were</em> caused by confusion and misunderstanding between the characters because they use word play for the names. Some of the names are question names like, who, what and why and others were time names like, today, and tomorrow.</p><p>2.) One example from the comedy skit is when Abbott said "Tomorrow" when Costello asked who was the pitcher. Costello thinks Abbott wants to tell him the name of the pitcher tomorrow.</p><p>3.) This wordplay creates humor for the audience because Costello is confused and  doesn't know that Abbott was actually telling him the names of his players, since the names are not your typical names .</p>]]></description>

And Abbott replies with "Naturally." Abbott thinks that Costello is using the words as names, but he is using them as normal words. Costello is very confused, he thinks Abbott is asing questions when he is actually saying the names of players. </p><p><br/></p><p>This wordplay creates humor for the audience because both Costello and Abbott are confused with eachother over wordplay.
