         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><mark>Participants </mark><strong><mark>MUST</mark></strong><mark> register on SmartPD by </mark><strong><mark>9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2019</mark></strong><mark> to guarantee receipt of the book selection before the workshop begins.</mark><br><em> </em><br><strong>Text: </strong><em>Teaching Reading to English Language Learners, Grades 6-12: A Framework for Improving Achievement in the Content Areas, </em>Corwin Press<em> </em>(2007) by Margarita Calderon.  <br><br>Students will be expected to produce a lesson plan in their content areas which uses the ExC-ELL 10-Step Lesson Framework described in the text and incorporating appropriate teaching and learning strategies to develop ELL students' listening, speaking, reading, writing, and language skills. This course will include 5 contact hours and 10 hours of online and independent work. All materials, inquiries, and submissions of work will be facilitated by a Google Classroom Platform. <br><br><strong>Instructor</strong>: Dr. Edward G.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Individual professional development plans must include at least 150 PDPs that break down as follows:<br><br></div><ol><li>At least 15 PDPs in content (subject matter knowledge)</li><li>At least 15 PDPs in pedagogy (professional skills and knowledge)</li><li>At least 15 PDPs related to Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) or English as a Second Language (ESL)</li><li>At least 15 PDPs related to training in strategies for effective schooling for students with disabilities and the instruction of students with diverse learning styles</li><li>The remaining required 90 PDPs may be earned through either "elective" activities that address other educational issues and topics that improve student learning, or additional content, and/or pedagogy.</li></ol>]]></description>
