Both stories are about black families in the 1950's. They both have struggles within their families. Fences deals more with with family, love, and betrayal. On the other hand,  A Raisin in the Sun deals with race issues that were going on at the time for the family. There are more characters in A Raisin in the Sun like Mama and Benetha.
