The protagonist in Crazy is Jason. Over the summer Jason's mother died and lives at home with his mentally ill father. Jason has "an audience" in his head that has specific people who comment on his life that have different character traits. This "audience" appeared after his mom died, this could mean that the "audience" has been created by stress.

The theme of Crazy is that a person should know their own weaknesses and be able to know when you need help. This is the theme because Jason didn't know how much he was actually hurting his father when he was trying to help, by not bringing him to the hospital. Jason needed his friends to finally realize what the right this to do was.
