I decided to enroll in this course for a variety of reasons. My main two reasons for enrolling are that I needed to in order to fullfill my major's course requirement. Another reason being that I wanted to expand my view on the world and the way it works. I hope a gain a new perspective at looking at the world or what is put in front of me. I am very excited to participate in this course because it seems like I will be learning about many interesting topics.

In the book Down to Earth Sociology second chapter "what is sociology" it discusses that sociology is one of the sciences that focuses on the social contexts that influence people. Like the consequences of social inequalities have on people who get the shorter end of the stick. I never noticed how much what other people did could affect my life. Like the 2008 recession that caused my family to lose their home was a result of government bailout. I see how the decisions of other people can impact the lives of thousands even millions at times. I personally believe no one should possess that kind of power we have seen time and time again that someone will always come and try to abuse having such power if its not already being done so. We see it with anyone who is in a position of power from an officer to a multi-billionaire there have been cases of abuse of power from all people who have possessed it. Power can change people and it is not always for the better.

In the third chapter of the book by Henslin it discusses how a sociologist questions everything and what kind of a questions they might make. Like what is the structure of this particular society as a whole? This allowed me to realize that a sociologist is almost like a child who never stopped asking questions about the world. I think everyone is a sociologist a little bit ever since I was a little girl I've questioned many things. Many human behaviors like why certain people love confrontation but others are terrified by it. How some are more emotionally intelligent than others. I found it very interesting how sociology works closely with history but it makes sense. I understand why they say "so history doesn't repeat itself" a sociologist could see societal behavior that other societies used and use such behavior to attempt to figure out the societies values and morals. Like how many ancient societies performed human sacrifices in the name of religion which we know now is not ok to be performing such religious acts.

Reading the book Introducing Sociology using the stuff of everyday life kept me very intretested. Which is something I want to firstly recognized because I am usually not interested when reading I read usually because I have to. The introductory chapter was fascinating I never knew a simple pair of jeans from Ross or Gucci could say and mean so much. Of course I knew of the social influence but I never realized how capitalism thrives of social influence and it is one of its main uses when advertising or marketing their product. I myself have loved fhaison since I was a little girl. I always loved to dress myself my way in the way I preferred I never really allowed my mother to dress me. I never understood why people thought I was a spoiled brat but I see that it could come across that way with my way of dressing.

In the second chapter of the book Introducing Sociology with the Stuff of Everyday Life it discusses some very interesting topics. Like the Marxist theoretical perspective of commodity fetishism that shows how most consumers don't see all the work and effort that go behind a product just the product itself. Like I myself never put much thought into anything I've bought. Like a golden cuban link chain the process of watching one get made is simply facisnating. There is an incredible amount of skillful work that goes into the production of jewelry which I understand why jewelry tends to have the price it has. It shows how food can be viewed from all different sorts of perspectives like Durkheim's totem perspective or the feminism perspective. I myself never even knew one could connect feminism to food but after reading this chapter I see how one can successfully make the connection. It shows how food can even be used in a negative context. A great example that the book gave was mexican foods like tacos and burritos. How when Americans try to recreate it like Taco Bell the taco is different than from the ones you'd get in Mexico. The tortilla isn't even the same hard shell tacos are not what tacos look like in Mexico. The tacos from the authentic Mexican food truck tacos won't look like a taco bell taco. An authentic taco would be a taco made with a handmade tortilla and carne asada (depending on options) then topped off with cilantro, chopped onion pieces and salsa if the customer wants. Beef aka carne asada tends to be the most commonly ordered option. I see this these kinds of perspective all the time like when people ask me if at my house we have taco Tuesdays because of my ethnicity.

In Down to Earth Sociology chapter 10 was an eye catcher. I knew that there were ways to communicate without needing to use our mouth. Like the way in which we nod our head can mean either  a yes or a no. Like how the simple facial expression says more than our words. I could speak about something in a positive manner but if I make a disgust face while saying all these positive things. The person or people I am speaking to may get confused on whither or not I truly believe what I am saying. Like when a deceptive questions a suspect the detective looks at the suspects body language. A lie detector machines works by monitoring indicators of autonomic arousal from the heart, blood pressure, skin conductivity, and respiration. Our bodies tell us a lot more than we would expect. It's all a matter of knowing how to read and understand what the body is trying to communicate. The author explains how even the matter of distance between people is different depending on the persons culture. Also depends on the relationship the people are in. Every distance has a different meaning behind it like when someone is 6 inches away from someone else it tends to be a love interest. Which I never knew I thought distance was a universal thing and that it all meant the same thing in every country. I realized that even introductions are different around the world. Like how in Mexico there is a hybrid of American introductory behavior like hand shaking or a hug, however they have adapted French custom of greeting with a kiss on the cheek. Non verbal communication is fascinating we can say so much without a single word.

This chapter was a interesting chapter. I never noticed things that were right in front of me before. Like how there is never a heterosexual man in a makeup ad wearing makeup. The reason of that being that very little if any heterosexual men wear makeup so when a makeup company is coming up with an ad they won't put a man putting on some red lipstick. Which makes one think well why? That reason being that her in America a heterosexual man cannot wear makeup without being associated with the LGTBQ+ communities. Which there is nothing wrong with being affiliated with this communities I myself am a member. Yet for heterosexual men homophobia is very well and alive. I think it is where it really still occurs most actively. An interesting note is that whatever counts as feminine is what makes something "gay" or not. Signifying that most men are raised to believe feminine acts or behaviors make him less of a "man" and weaken him. This mindset is not only toxic but dangerous to women it is what allows men to categorize women as objects instead of equals. Since femineie behaviors are catergozied as inferior to men the man will believe the women all together is inferior to him. I noticed this a little bit ago but I had never really put much thought into it. I had performed a social experiment with my friend who has the macho superior mindset because I wanted to see if he would treat me differently or feel different if I acted more feminine or masculine. I usually behave neural I don't behave too feminine or masculine I am more of a mix of 50/50. I noticed that when I dressed more feminine and behaved more feminine like my friend was nicer and more gentleman like and didn't want to discuss topics that me and him usually discussed. He wanted to discuss more light topics which I found very interesting. Then I waited a week before seeing him again and when I saw him again I was dressed more masculine and behaved more masculine. He was open compared to his behavior when I was dressed more feminine. He would actually confided in me that day about issues he was having with a female friend and he would not act as awkward when getting closer to me. He treated more as a person and be more comfortable when I was dressed more masculine like around him. I know if my friend saw a "straight" man putting on lipstick I would hear all sorts of insults and comments about his sexuality, looks, and audacity. In fact I believe that if a straight man went on a makeup commercial and said "any man can wear makeup and not be less of a man" many men from the heterosexual community would beg to differ or invalidate this statement by many homophobic or sexist ideologies. I never saw how advertisements reflect us as a society.

Not what it is in a literal sense but how its used in social interactions. How some folks tend to over use it and under use it. I always noticed that some people made themselves seem like a victim. No matter the situation they were always the ones in pain suffering the consequences. It brought up a term I had never heard of before a sympathy margin. I saw that is a sympathy tolerance and everyone has a certain amount they can get out of it. With reason of course because when sympathy is being begged for people tend to notice. A great example of the sympathy account and margins is Frank Gallagher. From the show Shameless Frank manipulated and conned everyone he could even his own children. Frank was a serve alcoholic and drug addict. He only functioned to get high that was his biggest priority. Which caused for Frank to end up with no sympathy. Even when he would go to the ER the staff would already know he would go to try and get narcotics. He overdrew everyones sympathy accounts so much that he literally died alone and unknown. Not impression in particular but how we present ourselves to give a certain impression. The way I understood this chapter is that we behave and do certain mannerisms so that whoever is watching can assume we are a certain type of way. Like the way a celebrity dresses up in all designer high end fashion brands to appear wealthy. Another great example being the first day of school. Usually someone will dress up and fix themselves nicely to look presentable. While others will come in sweats looking like they just rolled out of bed to appear like they "don't care" to give off a too cool for school impression. How a gang member will dress in all of one color so everyones knows he's a gang member and for which gang. It goes into detail about funeral directors and morticians (anyone who works with the dead) and the stigma around them. It firstly discusses why there are stigmas around the people who hold these positions. The reader is taught that the stigmas tend to be that they handle the dead and profit off of death. It is later explained that they avoid these stigmas by never objectifying the deceased person. They replace words like death with passed on. They explain how they do their job because it is important and not for pleasure. I don't know any funeral directors and have never been to funeral myself so I have never met anyone in the death business. The closest thing I have seen about a funeral director however is the movie My Girl. A movie about the daughter of a funeral director is confused by death. Since she's always around it she alway thinks she has whatever the newest dead person died of.  In the movie the stigma is shown between the father and the new makeup artist. She didn't want to even talk to him because she couldn't understand why someone would willingly work with the dead. How us as individuals define ourselves through the products we consume and use. I wasn't aware that most brands allow their products to have a variety of social meanings. Yet brands allow this because the more different groups the more people buy. For example if someone like Kylie Jenner began to wear early 2000's denim mini skirts. A lot of young girls and social media personas would also dress more early 2000's and buy more denim skirts. To signify that the taste in fashion is elevated and trendy. Of course no one owns just one brand it's a collective that represents individuals. Like how someone who only drinks Fiji water, drives a new Mercedes, wears expensive clothing, and has expensive accessories is more than likely to be labeled high maintenance. Some achieved status I have are a first generation college student, social media content creator, and a friend. The social status role I'd like to focus on is the role of a friend. This one can be complicated because many people have various definitions for a friend but to me a friend is someone who is there for you no matter what. If you need an ear or a shoulder to cry on they're there. The roles to me are to communicate every so often, check in on one another, offer help if they need help and you have the resources to do so. Always look out for each others best interests and be happy when one or the other achieves their goals. Don't intentionally cause psychological or physical help. Genuinely love and care for one another. I think that it was given this name because when you work low-income jobs and have expenses every cent counts. This chapter was unlike the others, the previously read chapters are more of informative explanations. This chapter shows us some struggles it spoke about before like corporate ideologies. Like when the journalist Barbara Ehrenreich described in the chapter most of her coworkers in the restaurant snuck things like breaks and napkins because the bathrooms most the time it didn't have the insufficient necessities. It shows how difficult it is to advance economic classes when she mentions how the highest paid worker of them all lived in trailer he owned who's rent was $400 dollars a month. Which here in California is an unrealistic price you might find a nice cardboard box in a rather sketchy neighborhood for that price. It reminded me of the show Shameless that helps viewers see that oppressions many in the minimum wage class face. Forcing many to the life of crime which reminded me of a scene in shameless I linked. Where the family was on the verge of losing their home due to insufficient funds. Making the house go on foreclosure meaning everyone would be on the streets. Leading the young brother Carl at the young age of 14-15 years old to sell drugs and he profits enough to buy the house back in full. He did this because he knew working for $7 an hour wasn't going to get him the lifestyle he dreamed of. A lifestyle that I might add is fabricated from brands and companies that make it seem as if the lavish lifestyle is easy and a necessity. You don't have it because you're not working hard enough! Only one shirt was made in the USA. Mainly most of my clothes came from Sri Lanka or Vietnam. 6 pieces came from both countries 3 from each. The rest of the countries that I found on other pieces were Indonesia, China, USA, and Cambodia. I didn't know that my clothing came from so many different countries. I never realized that we had so many things from many different countries. I think it says a lot about the future economy. I believe that by moving these companies and warehouses to other countries while yes the owner is saving money. They are also taking away many jobs from Americans that could be instead help better the economy. By having those companies in the U.S. it would put more money into peoples pockets. By putting more money into peoples pockets more money gets put back into the economy. More people are buying homes, cars, and stocks investing in other markets. Yet many corporations chose to have it in another country to save on fees and taxes the U.S. charges. Also because you can get away with things like child labor and sweat shops in other countries. It is not as easy to escape those laws in the U.S. which is why many aren't open here. I only see this leading to more companies having their factories in other countries. When those jobs could have been in the U.S. instead those opportunities are put in another country. The franchise is recognized worldwide there almost not one person that has not heard of it before. It is rare to meet someone who doesn't know of or heard about McDonalds. The way it runs is on specific rules that need to be followed. Rules that cannot be broken because they put the business at risk or losing customers. People do not want to be in a restaurant they feel is not clean or safe. No one willingly puts themselves at risk. This reminded me of a scene in the show Shameless. In which Fiona the eldest sister begins to act very violent towards an ex boyfriend of hers. He goes to her job to ask her for his tools back and even offers money. She refuses and she begins to throw plates and dishes at him yelling. Scarring of course all the customers in the restaurant. Her coworker thankfully calms her down but she is disciplined in her behavior. Even though Fiona turned the restaurant from a dump to a profitable business. Behaviors like this are not acceptable no matter how much she contributed to the business. The reason being is so that the business can continue to run smoothly and so customers do not get scared off. People go out to eat and don't want to run the risk of getting hit in the head by a flying dish. Which explains a lot of McDonalds vigorous training that is provided to the managers. It is headed for change and more change as time passes by. Why? Because if we are truly developing we should be changing. Like how most of our communication methods are online instead of on print. As the author pointed out in the chapter. He compares how Europe at whatever time this book was written is. How Europe will need 180 million immigrants to keep the population rate a float. How this a new era but it is too hard to tell if we are headed for a good change or not. This could fundamentally change us or destroy us. I think that us as a society don't really have much time to develop into anything more. I think this may be our last era, this is all we will get to make. A majority of people focus on the change in social behavior in societies or how the economy is run. Yet no one or few are talking about climate change and the clock of reversing its effects is ticking out of time. A majority of people want to claim it's a myth or even a government conspiracy to control the masses. Yet no one is forcing or pushing the 90 companies responsible for about 2/3's of the greenhouse gas emissions. Instead of fighting or working to contribute to change. Which is why I believe we are not going to make it too much longer because if we as a world cannot unite together to save the literal planet we live on. It shows just how dysfunctional human beings are, we're a dysfunctional society if I walk outside and walk past 12 people. If I do make the first interaction I most likely will not be interacted with. When back in the days when my father was a teen around the 90's. Everyone would socialize with everyone, it didn't really matter what they did. Nowadays people only speak to you when it benefits them. Only when they feel you are at or above their social level on the social hierarchy. I noticed this happens at many parties today. The hierarchy treatment is more notably most visible at the huge LA social media content creator parties. It is not you that defines you or if you're welcomed but your number. I say number because there are 3 ways you can be treated with some basic human decency at one of these parties. The first being to be rich  now if you don't have the funds don't worry there are two more options. The second one which is really the key to anyone in LA is to have your fan base the lowest they'll accept is 10k. Meaning you're barely starting out but some big dogs or creators could take you under their wing or you can connect yourself with many important people at the party. Don't have fame or money? Don't worry, the third option is to have a friend who has either or better yet both. I think that in this "new era" we are going to see a different type of classism. Not only will people be defined by their money like always but now they can also be defined by their social media attention. I think it truly shows how greedy capitalist America can be. How the powers who gain so much wish and wishing for more. While exploiting workers for cheap labor. Giving workers unfair conditions or not even the most basic necessities. It does give much to think about like how wages are justified by companies. How people would rather work at places where they feel it is less exploitative. A place like Hollister is better because you do not work as fast or as much as a McDonald's worker does an average shift. Same pay for less work most people will go for less work. It shows how the worker, like a cashier, has no say in anything really. They show up when expected and dress as expected or they are apprehended. Many workers get to prove themselves and up their pay grade if they try harder. Like Elle from Legally Blonde who proved she was quite the lawyer. When she saved her client from serving time for a crime she didn't commit. Who's exposure and pay grade definitely increased even though she was just a student. She would be treated with much respect once she hit the work field. A test would be given to the students in order to see how much information they have retained. The teacher could be given a certain topic they have to teach in a certain amount of time. Then there could be a test created to test the students to see how much of the topic they retain. Then there could a chart built based off the scores of the students to see the ranges of how they did. The numbers would tell the researcher how much the students actually learned and remembered. The test would be in a form that they have to answer in a practical form where they have to apply what they learned. I believe this is a good and valid form of measuring because I believe it will measure the amount of knowledge retained numerically. It began as the the day before the new year of 2019 I was fairly young and everyone I was surrounded by people who were a year or 2 older. It was me, my friend Kiki, my boyfriend at the time Leo, and our mutual Sarah. Sarah had brought these psychedelics to the house we were staying at for the night. I wasn't really comfortable and didn't feel like trying the illicit drug. I expressed to everyone how I had a gut feeling and a bad feeling about doing it. Even though I expressed how I didn't want to try anything everyone around me made it seem like I was being a downer and boring. I felt like I was being safe and listening to my gut yet they still took them and forced me to take one. After I took it the moment I started experiencing symptoms I threw up everything. Then I began to feel well again so I was hanging out with everyone for a couple of hours. Then everyone seemed to be sober again so they decided to go out. I wasn't comfortable with going out I didn't think any of us should've drove. I did my best to argue to at least let me drive but no one listened. Kiki was hungry and we did not have any food. So we headed out and Sarah drive since it was her car we had arrived in. After eating Kiki wanted to party since it was New Years Eve. We never made it to the party though on our way to the party we got into a car crash with a drunk driver. He ended up leaving us at the place where our car had ended up. I think that maybe if I would've stood my ground more and spoke up more we could've avoided what happened. This video shows just how much the wealthy take from the poor. Yet when he shows the ideal, what we assume, and the actual distribution of wealth here in America is petrifying honestly. It's like watching a super villain destroy and take what he wants but we have no hero or Robin Hood to save us. Learning that the top 1% holds about 40% nearly half of Americas wealth is a terrifying thought. That means that person has a lot of power and money which frankly no one should be able to obtain. If there is one thing society should learn about power, pride, and money is that if there is not a limit put on either it could end up destroying us all. It is also infuriating to think about how one man and family get to enjoy a luxurious lavish lifestyle leaving many families dirt poor with having to choose between gas or food. The fact that the middle classes wealth is so close to the poor's also scares me because the middle class and lower class could become one and the rich will get richer while the poorer will get poorer. When my family was involved in organized crime they made lots of money. So much so none of my parents had a regular 9 to 5 job. The cheapest barbies my parents would buy me would be of $60 no less. I had my own room the smallest bed I had ever slept on was my crib. Then my parents gave me a queen sized bed at about 6 or 7 years old. Everyone at my school was also super kind and respectful. The kids at my school were nice and no one was rude or mean to anyone. At least thats all I had seen until my family was caught and a majority sent to jail for their crimes. Then I noticed how classist and how much they cared about reputation. I went from the most popular well liked kid in my grade to the dangerous double life criminal in the span of 24 hours. I lost a lot of friendships in fact all the ones I had made with the little girls for years because I was now labeled as a bad influence for other children. I was well spoken, mannered, and dressed but they didn't forget to remind me that I wasn't one of them and never would be. Compared to when I had to move to a school near my new house in my new neighborhood after losing the home I had grown up in. The kids at the new school were completely different than the ones I had grown up with. I remember thinking that it was like walking into a new world. These kids introduced me to bullying, nicknames, brands, and most interestingly how they thought. Those kids didn't like me because they could tell where I came from in the way I presented myself and dressed. My biggest giveaway was not knowing was the shoe brand Jordans were. Everyone at that school was obsessed with "J's" they told me because only cool people wore them. Which showed me that those kids cared about money in the sense of impressing others to seem cool or better than others. While the kids at my previous school didn't even think about money since most of them already came from it. Most of them would talk about wanting to be a lawyer or doctor. While the kids at my new school wanted to be rappers or trappers which means a very successful drug dealer. My class change helped me learn how to answer questions correctly when it comes to different people. Besides a little small talk in the line but other than then there was really no verbal interaction. The space did not feel really friendly at all. The workers were really kind. Their customer service was very good. Yet it was the customers who made it a very unfriendly environment. Everyone who stepped in seemed very approachable. There were a few people who seemed nicer and more approachable. Yet it was more younger people than the older folks that seemed friendly. The coffee shop I was at was the Starbucks by my house. Which tends to cater to middle aged white causian upper middle class. I think that's the people that mostly tend to go to my coffee shops because it is in the Lincoln center. Which is known to be a pretty pricey plaza that has some pretty good restaurants. I am sure people of all classes and races go but after sitting and observing for an hour I noticed how much more commonly I saw  a white person than I did a minority.

When I was bullied it was for my eyebrows and for the way I dressed. Since my family was going through economic troubles I could not afford to dress how I was used to dressing. Nonetheless I wasn't going to explain to my peers that I was poor. I knew it would not help, it would just be another joke. Like how Eric Cartmen from the show South Park picks on his friend Kenny for being poor. Even though he himself is also poor, he lies to his peers about his economic status. As seen in the video provided. I think my biggest purchase in order to fit in was my first iphone purchase. I firstly got it in order to fit in with the people who also had them which seemed like everyone at the time. Yet as I've grown up over the years I realize that certain phones are cooler and have better functions for the same price or less than an iphones retail price. Like the Galaxy Note Flip a touch screen phone that can flip like a flip phone and even has an extra screen you can flip it to. While the phone is cool and all iphone's have got me, I love their emojis. I don't think emojis are a big matter to someone who's older or not into social media really. Yet I am on social media and I have a pretty large audience that can get very cruel and mean if I don't "fit" in. The internet only likes things that are labeled as cool by society I guess but it's constantly changing so what may have been cool to say or do last month is now known as lame or uncool. The same goes for celebrities and influencers but it's known as cancel culture. Many celebrities have gone through this. The biggest I can think of are people like the Kardashians. Yet I myself have experienced being canceled on the internet for a number of things like I once misspelled an artist's name by a letter and I could not hear the end of it for about 2 or 3 weeks of hate comments and dms. The second time I believe it because I made a joke about a woman disobeying her man. Then that resulted in a bunch of men leaving hate for about 3 weeks as well. I even have duetted and stitched videos. I really pushed a button I guess. I don't think I'd have the platform I have if I had an android.

The toy company that produces bratz dolls. As a little girl I remember this big disagreement at my school between the girls. It was over who was  better if either the barbies or bratz dolls. I had dolls of both kinds at the time I didn't really care about the differences in either. Yet even though I do come from an immigrant family, my parents can barely speak english. We do not experience racism or the exclusion that people who are also immigrants but of a darker complexion experience. My family and I look very white. People are often shocked to find out my mom doesn't speak english they always say something along the lines of "girl you look gringa." Gringa means a white person but what most people don't know is that it is technically a slur. A slur latin people created for the white people usually used to refer to an American. The company that manufactures bratz dolls teaches little girls that they can wear whatever they want. Their makeup doesn't have to look like Barbie's all natural makeup look. It could be dramatic and smokey makeup look and look pretty as well. I think they taught their consumers to be confident in themselves as well. Barbie didn't have big lips like how many people of color may have. Which made many little girls insecure about their big lips. There was a lot of hegemony for if you were team barbie or bratz at my school it defined your friend group. I of course stuck in the middle didn't know who to choose and honestly I don't remember who I ended up choosing. My childhood is a bit fuzzy. I only remember bits and parts.

Here in California the cheapest house you can find for rent is as low as $1,500 alone. So that means the worker with that salary would make around $31,200 a year.  Leaving the worker is an extra 13,200 for bills, food, and other expenses. Would this support a lavish lifestyle no probably not but the person wouldn't have to work a second job just to barely be able to pay their bills. I think workers of fast food places do and deal with hard work that deserves to be paid more. I myself used to work at the fast food restaurant and to this day I haven't even once thought about going back. The treatment from customers is absolutely horrendous for one. You do a lot and I mean a lot of work that is above what they paid me. I was paid 14 dollars an hour I believe and I was supposed to be the cashier only. Yet at one point I was on register, building burgers, frying, cleaning, and stocking inventory. A cashier doesn't build or fry we are not supposed to. Not only that, I worked at the place for about 3 months and I called the police more than 3 times. I felt endangered at work countless times because of the customers. I was once yelled at with full force. A customer once tried to jump in through the window to fight my coworker. You'd be surprised how many people fall asleep in a drive thru. I think those workers go through a lot and making their lives a little easier would improve the workplace. Being that no company is a company without its workers I think companies should treat their workers better.

Given the fact that sociologist study things that don't have a direct answer. There are different ways to measure certain topics in order to do it "correctly". The chapter also discusses how a researcher might combine methods in certain cases to receive more accurate results. After doing so they then come up with a theory since it kind of difficult to establish something without a study that be conducted again and give the same result. It can discredit the theory but we can still chose to use it. Like Freud's psychosexual development theory that has been discredited but is still taught today. I know because I have taken two course in psychology that that both mentioned this theory before. The author mentions how symbolic interactionism is the theory that sociologists commonly use for research. How it has 3 major themes and all have to with how they affect a relationship. Whether is be with an object or person they look for the cause that is causing the effect. Like how the effect of a drug addict can be from a cause of traumatic childhood. A child who never found a healthy way to recover. There isn't really much I can connect this too because it talks more about how to conduct a research but it reminds me of a show called grey's anatomy when they run their clinical trials how they have a set of rules to go by as well.

The study that was conducted in this chapter showed that if you have a criminal record the chances of getting a callback for an interview was about 50% and that is if you are white. If you're another race like African American you have less of a chance to make it in than a white man applying for the same position. I found it very interesting how some white criminals are actually more favorable than some African Americans with no criminal history. I think that this study helps the public see that for a criminal it can be very difficult to change their old ways when no one is willing to give them the opportunity. If they already paid the time for doing the crime why should they still be punished? Is it because it benefits the private prison corporations more if criminals find it easier to stay in their ways instead of working an ethically good job. Like how the corporation Victoria's Secret uses prison labor to make panties for a cheaper price. Yet if you apply to Victoria's Secret and you have a misdemeanor you're disqualified from being hired. So how does it make sense to use prison labor and have the prisoner as a worker but once that said prisoner is free. They can no longer work for a corporation they worked for in the pen? Because in the outside world this so called free world the minimum wage here is $15 that's the lowest they could pay someone. Yet in the jail system they can pay those workers 3 dollars a day. And they will have many signing up because it's probably the best job out of all the ones being offered to them. I also believe that corporations are at fault for instilling the ideology into many young low income minds that prison is cool. It earns you street credit the more times you been the more "badass" you are. Which is of course not true and should be known but if you go to what is known as the hood. Sit down and talk with active members of said hood. A lot of them will tell you that they learned prison was cool from older relatives or their peers. The funny part is that if it wasn't spread by some huge corporation then why every time I have met a new hood remember no matter what city they will tell me prision adds street cred. Is it portrayed in movies? Who made or funded those movies showing those kinds of messages.  Maybe because they do not deserve a second chance is why they don't get a callback. Maybe the way they act or dress isn't correct and that's why they cannot get a callback.

I had heard of this experiment many times before I've even watched the video of the experiment being performed. I found it very interesting how the experiment was meant to go out to Germany. But it never made it out there because of how obient Americans are. I think that this experiment shows the power authority has over people. Even though those participants were not forced to do harm the other participants. Many still shocked them because they were told to do so. Even though the participant would scream in pain some still continued to listen to the researcher. It more people who listened than those who objected. He found that Americans were pretty obedient. Which is why the experiment didn't continue onto Germany. I think that his experiment showed us just how many people are submissive to authority. This reminded me of the cheerleaders being forced into doing a split. The video shows a girl begging for the people around her to stop. Yet no one stopped and continued to force her into a split. While it is typical for a cheerleaders to perform a split it takes time to actually learn how to. To forcefully force the girls into such pain was unethical. If a patient or student asks you to stop then you should stop.

While to the regular human it may be seen as an everyday or normal non meaningless activity. Shopping itself has a lot of meaning and while it may seem like nothing means anything it does. Like the stores from which a person shops from tells people what their economic status is. For example if you were to sit inside a mall in an open area where you can see multiple store fronts some are more high end. Others have more affordable prices for their products. If you notice, people who walk into the affordable stores will most likely not walk into a high end store. Even though there is no policy that says you have to walk out with a purchase. Yet if I were to walk into a Christian Dior store in some Walmart sweatpants and tank top with a low end brand bag. I would either get no help from the sales representatives or get poor service from a representative. Those kinds of stores will make those who don't fit into their tax bracket level not welcome. Which is why many people who only shop low end don't even walk into a high end store. The humiliation they might have to endure is simply not worth it. You might also see how the people who stand at kiosks will try to initiate conversation with someone who seems to be more economically well off. The chapter also discusses how shopping went from in person to whatever they had in inventory to online shopping. While shopping in person is better because you don't have to wait or pay extra fees you don't get the same variety of options as an online retailer offers. How could a store compete with inventory like that? Which is what caused the decline of many stores leading to their shutdown like Toys R Us for one. Once known as one of the biggest toy store retailers put out of business by online retailers. A lot goes into the message of stores for example. Christian Dior hosts fashion shows for their new collections not only to show off their new clothing. Yet they make these shows very exclusive only to the top wealthy class and certain people of that class. They do this to make there brand that much more desirable and to make themselves appear more exclusive. Meaning if you own one of their pieces you are more exclusive than those who don't own high end luxury products. High end retailers and brands need this ideology to be forced upon its consumers so that people will pay what they demand. If a random person came out with a $3,000 bag without explaining its worth no one would buy it. Or if the retailer made it seem like anyone could have it no one would really want it either. In the fashion industry it is all about originality; they do not like copies. Which is why most brands show or do something that makes them different from the rest. An example being the Christian Louboutin's shoes with the red sole. Everyone knows that if someone walks in with a red sole they have economic stability for sure. It's a symbol of high status. Showing how much shopping has to do with ones status.

How data is collected and how questions are asked in order to receive accurate results. It showed us how these studies help ad's hit the public better. Or how brands figure out how to hit their target audience. How brands cater to their audience like how tiffany co isn't going to make a commercial with a model washing her car in a barn with cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. The reason for this is because they sell jewelry to wealthy people like Beyonce. To cater to their wealthy clients they make more consertive artistic kinds of commercials. With music like opera or orchestra not with a genre like rap or heavy metal. Because yet again heavy metal and rap are not genres that tend to be associated with people of high class. A CEO of a multi-million dollar company  is highly unlikely to tell you that their favorite artist is someone like Nicki Minaj. Those of the upper class only act poor or try to relate to the poor when they need their support or want them to buy something they are selling. I think that the greatest example of this is Astroworld. The Travis Scott concert where multiple people lost their lives trying to support their favorite musician. When this event occurred Travis's first apology was absolute trash. He basically tried to blame it on his fans because he "couldn't see". Yet I myself have been on stages at other concerts before and I can tell you when someone drops to the floor a circle forms around the person. Those circles are noticeable because everyone is crowded together and any blank space is noticeable. There are also 2 videos that prove he was lying again. The first video is of many fans begging him to please stop the show and he goes on to say "I ain't stopping the show y'all know what I came here to do". In the second video it is a video of a fan in a tree to get a good view of the concert. The fan is very far from the crowd and yes Travis managed to see him in a tree and point him out in the video. Yet Travis claimed he was unaware of the events occuring. The Kardashians as well gave an apology but tried to paint Travis as a good person. Yet I did not hear about Travis nor Kylie covering funeral costs or even reaching out to families personally for the incidents. Showing how those in the upper class do not care about those beneath them economically. Despite the fact that Travis and Kylie wouldn't be who they are without their fanbase they show no remorse. They show none as well because those who support them are almost like sheep; they are willing to overlook anything. I know a person who still has Travis as his favorite rapper which is insane to me because he would let my friend die at a concert if he ever went. Showing how the consumer culture is really based on a lot of lies that seem appealing to a majority of people.

It does mean however that the person has taste and sophistication. Through social media it has also made it easier for the general public to see what the upper class consumes and likes to do. I think the biggest example of this is the Kardashians. I remember living through the king Kylie era in 2014-2016. I was in high school and I was pretty popular at my school so Kylie was a huge influence on what I bought and how I acted for a long time. I was not the only person she had a huge influence over; she had this over millions. She still does to this day she is the most followed person on instagram. When she first launched Kylie's Cosmetics everything sold out within 30 seconds. The website crashed from how many people got on. She has since them pushed a lot more products and is now a billionaire from all she's sold. She is a role model for many young people. I myself used to look up to her. The kardashians also got plastic surgery more publicity. I remember when I was younger I had told my friend that when I was older if I didn't have the body I wanted I'd buy it. She then proceeded to ridicule me and tell me that god made us a certain way for reason and that it was a sin to change anything on your body and this huge rant as to why I shouldn't play into the devils society. It is incredible to see just how much people wish to be and act like they were in a higher social position than someone else.

It reminded me of the movie The Kissing Booth. It was about a girl in high school. Who ended up falling in love with her best friend's brother. He was a popular guy, a heartbreaker, and athletic popular guy. He was the guy every girl dreamed of being with but could never obtain. You can see the way athletes use the privilege they have against others. When the guy smacks the girl's buttox without permission he tells her friend who is obviously not athletic nor popular. Meaning he has no influence or power over the athlete so the assaulter feels as if he can disrespect both the girl and her friend because to him they are lesser than him so the treatment he gives them does not truly matter. However when Noah jumps in and starts to physically fight. The crowd gasps and begins to whisper because things got more serious. He is the someone among the athletes rankings so it's like the United states going against another powerful country like France. A lot of people look upto athletes as well because many young fans want to be just like them when they grow up an athlete. Many children get excited to see someone who is of their race on the TV doing what stereotypes said they couldn't. They reflect society's issues and many sports terms are used in real life as well. I live in a hispanic household. I myself do not really enjoy sports. I never understood the point. I didn't find the games interesting even when I learned the rules to the game. I liked watching WWE when I was younger but no one else in my house did so I only watched one fight but I loved watching. In my house everyone loves soccer they are always watching the games. My brothers love to play the sport it's insane.

Yet he began to explain all his experiences. Like when he first saw a fountain labeled colored he thought the water would come out a different color. He didn't comprehend it was for people of color. Showing the ideology of white supremacy being spread very boldly back in the Jim Crow law days. Racism is very alive today but it isn't as violent like how it was before. I am lucky enough to have been born very pale. So luckily my color has saved me from experiencing any racism. My native language has gotten me some dirty looks at most. Yet most people tend to not test me because I usually win my arguments with Karens. I learned the key is to hit them with more nonsense back. The chapter also talks about how unaware his white friend was of the segregation going on around him.  Which is strange because how does a child not notice fountains with signs? Or restaurants that won't allow anyone of color in. This reminds me of the movie The Hate that you give. The movie is about a girl who was next to her childhood best friend when he was killed by a cop when they got pulled over. In the movie the story goes viral and causes a lot of riots. She goes to a school where there are more rich white kids than anyone else. A scene in particular that reminded me of this chapter. Was a scene in which the girl and her friend were arguing because she was siding with the police. Saying things like "he was a drug dealer who was going to get killed anyways." Which then led to the girl telling her that he was holding a hairbrush it doesn't matter what he was. He wasn't doing anything wrong and was wrongfully killed. Which of course happens in real life all the time innocent people being killed by the police. The police received barely any harsh punishment because usually the people who end up dying are a minority.

Why they might think the way that they do and why they act the way they do. Racism is a way of perceiving and viewing the world which is why so many people are stuck in their ways. Which is also why it can be hard to convince a racist that they are wrong in their opinions. I myself knew a very racist old man who was a client of my dad's. His name was Larry. Larry is about 75 years old he can still get up and walk around but he does have a heart condition. My dad came to this country as an illegal immigrant and well we are mexican our culture is still strong here despite the fact that we don't live in our country. Even though this is technically my country I have never really felt a part of it or any accurate latino representation. Larry once was speaking to me and it was during the BLM riots. I recall because I remember wanting to go but I didn't want to be attacked by police or have ice called on one of my relatives because of political agendas. Larry began to question me on what I thought about the BLM protests and I told him I just hoped they would get what they were fighting for. He looked at me kind of funny and I was not rude and asked what he thought. He then told me that he thought that if "they weren't rude, ill mannered, and not dirty, if they presented themselves with respect then maybe the police would treat them with respect. '' I was in utter disbelief as to what I was hearing. I looked at him silently nodding and he quickly then said "yeah but not you guys though you guys are different you guys are respectful and clean." Which puzzled me afterwards because not only was he talking about BLM protests. He was also talking about the chicanos zoot suit riots I believe. He grew up around the Chicano movement times so I think he was combining both minorities with one stereotype. The chapter also reminded me of a scene in white chicks where the main character reveals himself to his lover as a black man. The lover had no problem with the character being a man (transgender) but he freaks out when he found out he was black and not white. Showing the mind of racist ideologies putting the white man as some sort of number 1 trophy over anything else.

Poor people are essential to this country's economic system. They for one buy the things no other people would buy like day old bread and second hand clothing. The poor work the jobs no one who has an education would work at. The poor contribute to many businesses like drugs, sex, gambling, and other miscellaneous activities. The status of not being poor also brings a sense of feeling better than those who are stuck in that economic decision.  The poor are also a way for aristocrats to use them as a way to have superiority over other elites because of charity work. The poor also reflect the government if the poor are poor because they do not work it is because the individuals are lazy. Yet they are all hard working and cannot move on. It says more about the system they are in. I found it interesting how the book talks about how the way the poor stay stuck is because many do not want to pay the costs of growth and change. Meaning it takes spending a lot of money to make a lot of money. Which is true I have run the numbers for what the total of my school career will cost me along with all the years of tuition and it looks to be about a million dollars with a couple thousand. Yet the career I plan on landing I am looking at a 6 figure income hopefully. I wish to bring wealth into my family. My family is pretty well off in Mexico but has no influence or power here. I think if we gained power here and combined it with some of the power in Mexico we could build generational wealth for the family. I want money to not be an issue we have to worry about in my family. I know what it's like to lose it all and watch what is too expensive to eat. The subtle taste differences between Hot Cheetos and the off brand version. Which reminded me of the movie Wolf of Wall Street. When Jordan began to make his first sale it was a penny stock to a random earnest working man. Yet he managed to get him to invest a lot of money into a stock that wasn't going to go up in value much. You can see in the scene how he just sweet talks the man out of his money. Just how the elites will lie however they need in order to make a profit.

Usually someone in the working class is someone who is working. It describes some economic problems like how certain kids can afford to wear cool designer brands. While other kids have to wear a shirt they bought from the thrift store. The study also in this chapter shows how many people who grew up in a middle class household. Was also told from a young age that they should pursue a higher education and should want to pursue higher education. Something a kid from a low income household is most likely like going to hear at his or her house very often. When my family had lost all their money I didn't get much education encouragement because my mom had to be at work a lot in order to pay the bills and put food on the table. This reminded me of the show Euphoria of the character Maddy. She came from  a working class family that didn't have much so she went through material deprivation. Which led to her wanting to have more. She wanted to be rich and have a nice rich luxurious life. She wanted to be them so much that she sat and studied the housewives that her mother would work for. She got with her boyfriend in order to get that life she wanted. Despite the fact that there are obvious red flags that he has issues going on in his head, she continues to be with him and play into the perfect fantasy girl role for him. She desires the lifestyle so badly she allows him to abuse her even though she claims it as love. It could be her subconscious desire for riches that shes allowing this abuse to happen .

It talks about the distinct activities and consumer tastes the upper class have. Tastes in which the lower classes cannot afford to indulge in like the rich so casually do. Like how the rich go to country clubs, something you don't find people  with not much money doing. These tastes not only help differentiate them in economic tastes. It also helps show that they are also different in the fact that they like acceptable activities. Like metropolitan clubs and not some redneck bar off highway 5. The places in which they buy clothing from says a lot as well. You don't see Kylie Jenner in an outfit from goodwill, shien, or forever 21. Why because that would signify she needs to save and be on a budget when it comes to fashion. Instead Miss Jenner wears pieces from expensive brands from Gucci to Versace. She owns one of kind, regular, and runway pieces. I think that the best example of how their tastes are shown off. Is with the pink vault tour of the youtube star Jefree Star. He built a custom vault in his old home that was filled with all sorts of crazy designer items he had bought for a crazy amount of money. He had a birkin bag worth about 100,000 dollars. That's a whole house for the price of one bag. Showing obviously the wealth difference to whoever is watching the video that Jefree has a lot of money. When he was asked about his shopping spree he told the cameras that the money he would spend shopping was just play money. Spending up to 100,000 on just one item and calling it play money is insane. There's people who will never even see that kind of money in America.

I am always listening to music. I love music. I love all genres classic, heavy metal, country, you name it I like it. I don't think that there is one genre I can't vibe to. I always knew that certain genres are make people seem more scary and violent than how they really are. I never understood why though until reading this chapter. I liked the section that discusses the song protists. I listen to many artists who made songs in protest of social injustices, the most famous artist being Bob Marely. Even though he is known to most the public as a weed loving peace loving guy his songs have much meaning. Like burning and looting which is about police brutality and how there will be no peace until there is change. I am not sure which riots he is referring to specifically because I wasn't alive when it was released and because I didn't look too much into it. I think it was about the riots about police brutality that happened in the 70's I want to say. He is no the only artist I listen to that makes music about issues in today's day. Those artists don't get much recognition or their music is ignored. Like how the song Day N Night by Kid Cudi is about drug addiction the addiction of the marijuna plant. Yet most people like it because of the beat and don't really pay attention to the words. Thee sacred Souls are great jazz band that discusses very important topics like their most impacting song Give Us Justice is about police brutality. He starts with "could've been me" showing how the fear of being killed by an officer is still very real and there hasn't been changed in the police behaviors. While there is music that gives good messages there is music that doesn't have the best message but it helps inspire others to be who they are. My all time favorite rapper is Nicki Minaj and yet I think I am one of the only or few people who selects a woman as the "best" and many oppose my opinion because she's a woman and not as good as a man. I usually ask well ok then who is your favorite. Then the response is usually someone like Kanye. Nicki and Kanye are both good but their music is what people use to make the African American community criminalized or shady. Which is why you don't tend to hear Nicki playing at a nice event or the radio. Their music is recognized as vulgar when it isn't bad. I discovered Nicki Minaj at a young age of 12 years old and I felt very bad about myself at that age for a variety of reasons. Listening to male rappers like Kanye where he spoke about big booty bitches, big money, and lavish lifestyles made me feel worse. When I listened to the Pinkprint for the first time I heard what I had felt for so long. No one else understood how I felt she did and it spoke to me. In a way her music is what consoled me and it also helped me grow from the dark place I was in. She taught me that as a woman I don't need a man to give me the life I want. I can do it. I don't have to change myself or allow disrespect from a man. That the public's opinion doesn't matter, yeah my whole school didn't like me but what do their opinions matter. I feel like she was really my mother figure in life. My mom is present in my life but she wasn't very present emotionally. She would kindly just tell me to get over it for anything that bothered me so I was taught to not really care about anything which caused me a lot of problems growing up. Because it's hard not to care, as a child everything mattered to me. How do I get over something that keeps replaying in my head? How do I get over something that won't shut up? Yet Nicki's music taught me to love myself, work for what I want no matter the cost, don't lower my standards for myself or anyone, and that it's ok to show emotions. Music is what saved me so to learn about all its purposes was such an eye opener.

He doesn't cry when he's hurt and she doesn't show fear even in the most terrifying moments. Traits of a sociopath is what makes a man. A man is someone who displays no signs of femininity. I don't know when or where along the road emotions were labeled a feminie thing to experience. When it's human I grew up in a household where my brothers were told to not cry because it was for the weak. Yet I too was instilled these beliefs I was taught that displaying my emotions makes me weak people can twist my feelings and what I show. Crying is for the weak it shows people your down and people kick you when you're down; not help you. So as a result I don't show my emotions I am known for being a cold person to many. Many gasp or say a comment like "what she was feelings?" when I show some type of emotion. I am a woman but I understand how confusing it can be when your told all humans have emotions. Yet when you display them you're degraded or seen as less. Weirdly enough I noticed that because of how I act and think a lot of people hold me to a different standard. When I was younger I was held to the female standard which I was not a socially acceptable female. I had many traits I needed to work on. I didn't care about the traits or non acceptable behavior I'd display and didn't care what the public had to say after so many years of opinions I didn't ask for. So somewhere along the road I was held to the male standard I went from being recoginzed as a "hoe" disptie the fact that during these alllegations I had no partners and was not sexually active. To then a player and to this day I am known as a "pimp" and not a hoe. Because people respect pimps and look up to pimps but not hoes. I think I am the only female that I know that is widely known as a pimp and didn't self proclaim the title. I think about how women are often frowned upon for living the lifestyle were a woman choose to be more sex positive and more free. Women like Tana Mongeau, Nicki Minaj, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and many more especially internet sex workers. While men like Hugh Hefner received praise for their single bachelor life. They were seen as a top dog real man. Yet the standard is always changing as time progresses. In today's day if I get held to a different standard I am sure many others will as well.

The celebrity could be working on a groundbreaking project that will have some real impact but the media wants to know who she's wearing not what she's doing. Unlike male celebrities who rarely get asked the question and are asked more about their projects. This chapter brings up how in the middle setting the boys had made a list of the hottest girls. The researcher learned that the girls with the more developed figures were higher on the list. Making girls who have not yet grown into their body feel bad about themselves. Even for the girls on the list it makes them feel bad as well because they are n't on the list for the best personality or for being the kindest. No they are on their own because they are more attractive making those girls feel objectified and even sexualized. Teaching a lot of young women that no matter how great they are or what they achieve if they do not "look" the part they won't be as appreciated as if they did. I think a great example of how women are judged on their looks is how harshly a celebrity is judged when she is caught outside without any makeup. The media and many others will comment on how she does not look good and some might even call her hideous underneath all that makeup. Sometimes memes are created to emphasize how bad she looks. Which leads to people like Kim Kardashian stating that she goes to sleep in makeup. Kim did this because of how harsh the media was towards her. Being constantly called a big plastic, gold digging girl can not be a good thing for one's mental health. I think that she did it to please everyone because she wanted to always be the ideal girl and without makeup she would not be the ideal girl.

The parent begins to act a certain way depending on the sex of the baby. The differences in treatment for the child will continue all throughout its life. Even outside of the home in schools like preschools or headstarts there are tables for girls and tables for boys. Some children at school are also advised to not seek out a friendship with the other gender. The reason being because it is not right. Yet there is no law defining that a friendship between a female and male is illegal or wrong. Yet it is wrong because it sends a message about the girls being promiscuous even if the girl is not. Most adults and even other children will see it as the girl having a crush on the boy. Boys are encouraged to be loud, play how they want, unless they want to be femine like a princess. This brings me back to a discussion there was on tik tok. There was a mother who was receiving a huge amount of backlash for allowing her son to wear a princess dress and dress as a princess. Many came attacking the mother caliming that she was teaching him or enforicing him to engage in homosexual activites. His sexualiy was questionned a lot but his mother told him that he can dress how he wants and like whoever he wants. This also reminded  me of the time my younger brother was about 7 and he saw me painting my nails for the first time. He asked what I was doing and I told him I was painting my nails. He said it looked cool and he wanted to try it. I thought nothing of it, some simple paint on nails would do no harm will be done. So I painted his nails and he loved it. He told me it looked cool. Then my parents saw his nails and had a meltdown. I don't think I've ever seen them act in this manner. They told me to never ever paint his nails. They yelled at both of us and told us how it was wrong to paint his nails because people might think he is gay or he himself might become gay. Yet most people know their sexuality from a young age you can usually tell. I myself always found both genders ttarvitve and interesting and I was never taught about bisexuality. Yet I realized I am a bisexual even though I was taught the "correct" gender role.

The author describes how a mans perspective might be on something like a complaint. She points out that men or well most men are taught to one up in a conversation. While a woman is taught to consider another individuals emotions while conversing. Which is the key to many miscommuntions. It is because they are not seeing eye to eye. It is like trying to speak french to someone who is only fluent in spanish. Which is similar to what happens when trying to express one's emotions but both minds are on separate pages. A great example that was provided in the book was when she discusses apologies. She pointed out how most men do not like to apologize and tell women who apologize often to not do it so often. Because to them apologizing is putting oneself down. Which is the opposite to the perspective the man is used to. Compared to when a woman apologizes she recognizes her faults if she committed any. A great example I can think of is from the movie the House of Gucci. In which Patrizia had many things she didn't like or complain about and her husband always tended to have a more calmer approach to solving her problems or any problem. Like when she discovered people were making fakes of her husbands brand she was outraged. She wanted it all stopped and taken down she went out and bought as much as she could. She then brought all back to her husband's office to discuss it with him but he didn't seem to care much. In Fact he comments that the replicas were so good he would wear them. She of course did not find the joke funny she thought the situation was not a laughing matter. Showing how both of them are on different pages as to their ambitions and perhaps other aspects in their lives as well. Which of course the miscommunication lead to their divorce and then the homicide. Which is why I think it's important that both genders should consider each other's feelings. Maybe if her husband would have considered her emotions more there could have been some sort of compromise between the two or the marriage itself could have been saved. Nonetheless miscommunications will most likely always occur because even today not as many males are being raised to understand someone else's emotions and take them into consideration. Which could really be a beneficial skill to learn. It could really facilitate many men's lives.

On the scale they are high up on the ratings many people follow them because of how they look. I myself am guilty for following certain people for how they look. I follow this one famous tik toker named Vinnie Hacker who just takes my breath away every time I look at him. Even though I have never met Vinnie in person I don't lose hope that maybe one day I will though. Yet because of his attractiveness he gained millions of followers. He has gained many brand deals, a reality show, and a successful twitch channel. He gets to live in LA in mansions and party with big celebrities all because of how good looking he is. He is not the only there is also many influencers that have gained their fame from their looks. The reason the Kardahsians are so kept up with is because of how they look. They made plastic surgery a trend because everyone wanted to be as good looking as Kim. I remember when they worse these adidas slides with stripes and they wore them on their show and those shoes were sold out for months. Even when they get canceled or called out for something wrong they have done they always get another chance. "It is amazing how complete is the delusion that beauty is goodness"- Leo Tolstoy. When more attractive people get accused of something the public tends to go easier on those who are more attractive. Which demonstrates how many do care more about looks than do anything else they claim. While many claim looks do not matter they do matter and they matter quite a lot of people. Which I think is unfair to those who don't meet whatever the standard is wherever they are living. Someone can bring a lot more to the table besides looks.

I never thought about how women in the military have to deal with a lot more than men do. Like with all the sexual and gender harassment. I didn't even know that many women face gender harassment. A lot of women are told they deserve better and more equal treatment in the army but no changes are raised or done to make life easier for women. Showing how the army isn't too interested in its women. These women have to not only deal with sexual advances from a lot of men in the military they also have to deal with the fact that most of them are no respected. They face challenges such as scrutiny, gossip, rumors, indirect threats, and sabotage. Many men go in opposition of these women to try and protect what they believe are good gender norms. They do not wish to change their gender norms or anyone else's in the military because it might mean giving up something they do not want to. Yet just because many people do not want gender norms to change it doesn't mean they shouldn't. Many people did not want slavery to change and we all know that it wasn't a good thing. Despite the excuses people would try to make in order to justify the enslavement of the African American race. Which reminded me of a movie in which Cesar Chavez was organizing a grape boycott. So that farm workers could negotiate better working pay and conditions for themselves. They knew that standing alone would not serve them much if a purpose. Yet when it begins to affect their money they will notice and do whatever they can to keep their financial matters afloat.

We are only proving their point on how we care about our roles so much, something as little as a toy. Can make one person question a child’s gender and even sexuality. You see this in Roy sections all the time you won’t find Barbie’s in the boys toys section. Because he's for girls they are only acceptable when a girl uses them. Another interesting point the chapter brings up is how what kind of toys a child has reflects the families economic status. Like how if a little girl is carrying a good American doll which are pretty expensive dolls. There is a high chance her family makes a good amount of money. Many learn from a young age that certain toys are cooler than others but also more expensive. A baby alive doll for instance made you a really cool kid when I was a little girl so of course my parents had bought me about 2 or 3 dolls. I loved the dolls because they could actually pee like a real baby. Which was a toy aimed for little girls like me. The toy was teaching me how to be a mother and how to be nurturing as a mother should be. While my brother had toys like trucks and race car tracks. Yet I had a friend who grew up poor and she told me that in her childhood she always dreamed of having a Barbie doll. She told me how her family was too poor to be able to buy her a Barbie brand doll. Her dolls came from the dollar store but at least she got a doll to play with. Which showed me just how differently our childhoods were and how it taught us different things. Consumer culture made my friend feel bad about the kinds of toys she was getting when back in the day most people made their own. There wasn’t such a huge deal on brands. Consumer culture is dangerous. E cause they so easily manipulate the masses and that can be dangerous. The reason being they could misinform and greatly harm many. Like how if a boy is walking with a doll he is most likely to get beat up for acting like a girl because dolls are for girls.

I have experienced socialization into my gender in various ways at home and at school and even out in the streets. One of the most aggressive ways I can remember. Was when I was in the fifth grade and I had a friend who was a boy. The friendship was platonic there was no romantic feelings involved. Me and the boy were simply friends who enjoyed playing hop Skotch. One time I was being picked up from my nannies home in the afternoon after school. My father was the one picking me up and as we were leaving my nannies house. Across the street was the boy who I was friends with from school playing with some other children. Me being the friendly child I was I loudly said hey and waved my hand excitedly. I remember my father immediately putting my hand down and proceeded to scold me about having a friendship with the opposite gender. I remember being told that being friends with the opposite gender looked wrong. I was told that people could get wrong ideas from said  friendship and I was told to no longer talk to the boy. Of course me being the child I was I simply agreed smile and nodded and was still friends with the boy just behind my fathers back. I leaned to not interact with men or boys after my fathers reaction that day.

The topic of beauty is something most people wouldn’t think too much about. Truth be told, beauty is one of the biggest money market industries. The fashion industry alone is a $1 billion industry and I don’t mean 1,000,000,000 billions of dollars are produced from fashion alone. The makeup industry as well makes billions of dollars a year. No to many the makeup and fashion and the whole beauty industry may just seem like some expensive scam which to some point you can say it is. Truth be told, most of us know beauty as a thin pale complexion, clear skin for eyebrows, green eyes, long eyelashes, and thick lips woman as the ideal woman. Someone who fits along those physical features May be defined as someone who is beautiful. And how many companies make profit from such ideologies as the one I stated above. Is that they will push marketing advertisements towards certain demographics. I like how Ulta beauty might send me advertisements showing pale complexion models all over the magazine they sent me compared to someone who might be African-American might get sent a different kind of magazine with African-American models all over the magazine. Many make up industries also make it clear that they are favoring their pale complexion customers when they have for example foundation releases that only have five dark complexion shades and 10 white complexion shades. Showing how with the more white shade range that there is this company prefers and prioritizes their pale customers more than their darker complexion customers because there’s less of a variety for those of the darker complexion to choose from. You also notice in the fashion industry for example if you walk into Nordstrom you will not see any ethnic clothing. In Nordstrom you’re most likely to see some high-end designers, maybe some of the cheaper ones being Nike and Adidas but you will not see any designers that are African-American or any color besides white or European dissent. And the way these companies market is very effective clearly from the billions of revenue that comes in annually. Yet it is also very damaging to many young women in society that are being exposed to these harmful advertisements. Many little girls such as many African-American young women with dark complexion may feel inferior to a young European dissent woman with a pale complexion because of what they see in ads. Many companies lack diversity in their campaigns and advertisements however there are some that are changing the way the industry works by demonstrating to others how it should be done. One of the companies that I can think of that effectively has a good representation of diverse models in their advertisements is Fenty beauty by Rihanna. Rihanna even in her savage X lingerie line also has models that are thin and overweight, pale and skinny some with some facial markings some with vitiligo which is a skin condition. And she has all these models model for her campaigns whether it be for her make up or her lingerie shit showing other companies that diversity is definitely possible and encouraged.

Let me begin. In the girl section it very much looked pretty similar. There were princess dresses, the princess heels that go along with it along with a plastic tiara and there was also a variety of Barbies to choose from, not specifically from the brand Barbie. Some were Bratz, others were these Barbie doll brands that I do not recognize. I can tell that I was in the female section because of all the dresses feminine toys and the aisle pink. you didn’t see well I didn’t see any toy cars or toy trucks or anything that had to do with manual labor toys like construction, building tools or monster trucks. The toys I just mentioned were actually in the boys aisle which was all blue. There were also toys of neutral genders either gender could play with but those toys were for babies or toddlers mainly. For older kids however that is what the boys and girls isles were targeted for. The boys' isles had hot wheels, monster trucks, construction sets, Lego sets, Roblox characters, and Minecraft characters. When I was a little kid I enjoyed playing Minecraft but it is viewed more as a male game, something that males enjoy more. In each section the toys are organized very neatly. You can tell that the disorganized toys or the toys put out of place were from other customers. I can tell that the toy is targeted towards boys and girls because the girls are usually told to go for pink and feminine things which is why the aisle is painted pink and there are more dresses in sparkly things in the aisle. Compared to the boys' aisle that is blue which is what most boys are told that their color is in, the aisle had more cars, race tracks and I guess you could say louder toys.

Anna Wintour is responsible for the guest list to one of the most exclusive charity events that everyone wishes they could be at. Known as the Met gala where dozens of celebrities have given us amazing looks like Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner and etc. looking up on Vogue's website I realize that they had more images of women than they did of men. They had a lot more skinny people compared to people that were chubby; there were almost no chubby people advertised. I only saw images of people with extra weight because they were pregnant. The race that was most common throughout these images was the Caucasian white race then the African-American race was displayed most afterwards. Then I saw Asians and Latino representation but very few pictures and other races such as the Middle Eastern. For a magazine like Vogue to claim that they are very much within the times of fashion they have few representations for more diverse colors besides African-Americans. While yes it is true they are an oppressed community there are more oppressed communities as well such as Asian Americans, Latino Americans, any person of color really. Also in this year 2022 we are supposed to be inclusive with everyone’s Look and wait yet Vogue has yet to display a model that is overweight and not by pregnancy. Around the 1890’s around the time that child labor was well in effect. I like how it discusses how parents were also a lot less involved in their child’s lives. Many mothers stayed at home but there weren’t any child protection laws. Making many mothers abusive mothers who would beat and send their children to work. Many children would die in those days most siblings were expected to lose a sibling at some point early in their life. Yet we saw numbers of children deaths lessen as child protective laws were passed. As well as the outlaw of child labor in most industries meant more children were able to go to school. Leading them to have a brighter future in a class than in a warehouse. That also meant that more families were left without the income many children were bringing in. Leaving many women with no option but to join the workforce. To be able to keep with the finances. While this may not have been the case for all it was the case for many. Which is why many mothers do not stay at home with their children. They need to work in order to provide for their family. I like how the author points out that both the job and school system are out of date. As many institutions change, so should the system be able to accommodate the times. What worked 150 years ago will not work today. I agree that public school systems in America definitely need to change. I went to many different public schools in my life and I can say that there is a definite difference between them all. When I attended my very first elementary school it was in a well funded area. My teachers were nice, the students were nice and they had real achievable goals like wanting to be a lawyer or a doctor. However when I began fifth grade I went to a school where it was a poor bad neighborhood. And in that school not only was the material I was learning was material that I had already learned. The students and teachers also meant they had different mindsets than what I had been used to. The kids around me did not want to be lawyers are doctors they said those took too much time and we’re dumb and boring. I recall a majority of the kids telling me that they wanted to get on welfare or become a successful rapper. Others mentioned to me a variety of different criminal activities that would make them a lot of money for example for a street pharmacist. Showing the difference between the two schools compared to my first school that was in a good neighborhood to the school I ended up in in fifth grade shows how different the ideologies are. I also recall that in my first school most of the books were new, no pages ribbed or riding or drawings in them ever. My school even had its own library. I recall very well always being in said library and reading. I also recall that in the low funded school there was a library but it was very little and very abandoned. There were almost no children there ever. I also recall being made fun of for reading or wanting to read or being excited about reading leading to me not ever wanting to read afterwards. I also recall a higher divorce rate in the lower funded school at my nicer school. I think I only remember one little girl whose parents got divorced. Yet at my lower class school I remember many students having single parents or divorced parents or broken families and I do not remember any student at that school that had a lot of money or that I guessed could have a lot of money.

The dressmakers alone make thousands of dollars from a dress alone depending on the designer if it is a Valentino dress you’re not likely to find $1000 Valentino dress you’re looking at about $5000 in upwards. It also discusses how upper class more expensive weddings or what is mostly dreamed about like a 3 carat ring or a big expensive venue. Weddings typically show the families wealth and love. The author also points out how in today’s world the wedding itself is more important than the marriage lasting. Which is why there is more divorce rates than there is non-divorce rates. It points out how many people with a high school graduate degree only tend to marry younger and divorce more often than somebody who is more educated for example with a college level degree. For many people weddings have become more of a social event than a personal event it has sort of lost its sentimental value over the years. It has become more about the appearance and what vibe the place is giving. Which reminds me of the show shameless where Fiona was going to get married to an ex drug addict name Sean. Yeah at the altar her father comes in and informed her that Sean was lying and using again. Meaning they did not get married but both of the fiancé‘s or ex fiancé‘s were with a GED or drop out. None of them had gone to college before and if they would have continued to get married their marriage would have most likely ended in divorce. I don’t recall exactly when my fantasy of my dream wedding began. However I can recall dreaming about my wedding since I was about seven years old. My dream wedding is me in a big princess-like dress with a long train along with a long veil. My dress doesn’t necessarily have to be why I never really cared too much about the whole dress having to be white. The venue never really mattered much to me. What I really loved focusing on was the decor and dress. For the decor I wanted to look as an enchantment kind of theme with flowers hanging from the ceiling with a big chandelier in the center. I want these centerpieces to be made of the same flower as the one that is hanging from the ceiling. I'm not too sure what it would look like. Yet I do know that I would want my dream wedding to look like a fairytale enchantment kind of theme. I want big long white tables and clear glass vases. The flowers don’t necessarily have to be white but I would want them to be a neutral color white, Beige, light pink, any color of the sort that is a light color. I think I got a majority of my weight wedding ideas from a mix of American wedding culture, Mexican wedding culture, and a bit of Pakistani wedding culture. Oh I love the way Americans do such a huge thing for their weddings. I love how they dress the bride. The idea of a bachelorette party and bridesmaids is very appealing. In my Mexican culture we do a lot of little things that are very fun at weddings and we have this specific type of music at our weddings usually called banda. That you don’t see at Pakistanian or American weddings. What I would be incorporating from Pakistani and weddings in my wedding is definitely the way they decorate and the dresses they have the bride in along with the accessories. They add so much detail that makes it look so gorgeous and unique. I love the amount of extra that they put into the bride. After all this moment it is supposed to only happen once in our lifetime so I would like to make it as beautiful and as memorable as possible. I believe that by dressing not exactly as they do but similarly to their level of detail would definitely add that extra memorabilia to my wedding.

The example used in this chapter was cannibalism. There are not many cultures that regularly consume members of their society. It tells a story on how these survivors of a plane crash had to eat parts of the dead bodies of the other passengers of the plane. Showing how most of our ways of being that guide us ethically is socially constructed. Because when these survivors made it back to society they were not changed. Nor punished for what they did. It was viewed and the roman catholic church stood by them as well. While an institution giving someone's opinion can work in a positive manner. The causes can be used for different matters and problems. Like how the money raised could be used for different projects or individuals than the organization mentioned. An example being the Ace family, a couple with young children that have a youtube channel are infamous for constantly scamming their fans. They scam their fans out of money instead of giving quality products. This reminds me of the show the Boondocks in an episode where Huey takes a hunger strike against BET. For being a TV channel that shows racist and rotting mind tv shows aimed at an African American demographic. Huey ended up being betrayed behind the institution that supported him. He was sold out for a show and no justice was served.

Like how prison instead of some sort of rehabilitation for a criminal it’s more of a breeding ground for hate in violence. Where a prisoner might learn to be more violent or more violent antics from prison than in the outside world. And how prison is paid for by taxpayers but prisons are truly doing their job which is trying to improve criminals. If anything they’re trying to worsen them so they can come back again. Which leads to the question: why could it be because it leads to more incentives or do they keep being paid more or do they want more prisoners? It talks about an experiment where people were put in charge of being prisoners and somewhere in charge of being guards. Of course this one is in a controlled environment in a fake prison. Yet after four or five days the participants were both prisoners as guards. Began to abuse their powers some but not all and the bystander guards were noticed to have not spoken up or said anything because they wanted to keep their own ego well. What I mean by that is that the other person wanted to be liked by his coworker so when said coworker acted out of bounds the guard said nothing. Two insured that his coworker would still get along with him. Showing how the card only did not say anything because he wanted to be validated. The researcher as well as I found very interesting that the prisoners as well began to use what little power they had over those prisoners I didn’t have as much if any. Which shows the sense of illusion that power gives or the superior powers imply on those inferior to them. How to keep those inferior to you under discipline or under submissive methods. When an individual believes he or she is free they’re less likely to battle or question anything that doesn’t involve the taking of their freedom. The best way I can demonstrate the illusion of power is through the abortion debate. Some believe that abortion should go back to being illegal and others believe it should not. I myself believe that abortion should remain legal for a variety of health reasons mainly. Because I do know that whether abortions are illegal or legal they will continue to happen. The same way prostitution has a think always been illegal yet it’s always been here. Same way drugs are also illegal and yet there are still plenty in the streets. Yet with the abortion debate when I find myself talking to relatives or fellow peers I will usually hear well yeah but what are you gonna do about it or what can we do. And many people say this because many do not believe they have power over the government. Or they believe that their voices will not be loud enough to be heard. As many know many protesters have been ignored and many reasoning has also been ignored as we see in Texas.

Its title being sane in insane places is very truthful. How it talks about the misdiagnosis in the medical community and how gravely it affects the individuals. Someone diagnosed with schizophrenia or any other mental illness can be greatly damaging to their personal lives. They can stop them from adopting a child or even attaining a certain job in the same position of power. You can’t even take the right to vote away or a high position in society. You don’t see many people High Up in society with mental illnesses. We do see celebrities and influencers with diagnoses such as ADHD or bipolar disorder. Yeah we don’t hear too much about a celebrity with schizophrenia or another hallucinatory mental illness. Which shows just how much a mental illness diagnosis can affect one’s life. It discusses how some diagnoses are incorrect because what might be not OK and one culture is perfectly fine and another. So when we are basing our diagnosis of mental illness, what are we truly basing it off of? What is universally OK to define as mentally ill and no longer regular behavior. What do we define as normal or abnormal? Is this normal? What is universally OK to define as mentally ill and no longer regular behavior?  What do we define as normal or abnormal? Is this normal? How many things need to go into consideration when we are discussing a diagnosis of mental illness. Yeah it is concerning how this new information does show that the diagnosis we have at the moment is not useful or reliable. But the same excuse can be used for malicious intended projects or agendas. I think the best example I can think of is to show someone not understanding about illness. It is in the show shameless when Ian is having a bipolar breakdown or bipolar crisis for the first time his family doesn’t really know how to react. They don’t really recognize many of the symptoms that are clearly there at first. They later learn after he goes way overboard or not learn but suspect he may have bipolar disorder. Being that their mother had bipolar disorder and it led to her about anything in one of her manic episodes. Yeah when Ian is being diagnosed and they are trying to get help for him Ian goes on to say that he does not feel as if the medication or the doctors are helping him but rather trying to change him. Which I think is very important . To truly understand mental Ness we have to understand that we probably cannot get rid of it. The same way we cannot get rid of arthritis or Parkinson’s or dementia. Yet we learn to manage and control such illnesses which I believe can be done the same for mental nurses. Yeah of course I believe that there Has to be some different kind of approach for mental health. This being that the mind is one of the most complex if not the most complex organ we have in our system. I mean the mine built the body the body does not come first the mind comes first. When a heart is broken or has a defect we perform surgery and physically fix it. But what about when a brain keeps replaying a memory that was traumatic to an individual? We can't take a scalpel to the brain and just cut the memory out. I don’t know what kind of approach would be appropriate but I do know that we should try to think of new methods.

It gives the reader insight as to what the officer could be thinking about. His situational circumstantial surroundings that could lead him to use excessive force. Like how an officer may be encouraged to use more force than she used in an encounter with a suspect. Which can lead to the officer inferring that they need to be more aggressive and violent when dealing with a suspect. Which is what has led to many cases of police brutality. Like in the case of George Floyd. It explains how there may be situational justifications, other justifications or excuses for the use of force involved in the situation. Every case is different when the officers' use of tactics to control a suspect have gone too far. This chapter shows how the real issue is that police are told to use force but they are not really specified how much and when. And the officers are supposed to infer these choices with their own conscience which has and can continue to lead to many problems. For a variety of reasons one being we could have a white male officer who has never dealt with a minority in their lifetime or if they have it is very little. This one officer could have various negative stereotypes on minorities and when he has a minority suspect the officer is more likely to use more force out of fear of not knowing the minority. Fear of the untrue stereotypes that the officer has probably been raised with which leads the officer to use more force on the minority. As well as the minority might have and when he has a minority suspect the officer is more likely to use more force out of fear of not knowing the minority. He is a 26 year old, male, Mexican ethnicity, and comes from a low income home. He himself makes an average wage not enough to be labeled middle class however. Despite coming from a low income household and having a low income himself. He has big ambitions and big dreams which I admire in him. I do find his ambition admirable. However I do call him crazy on his money ventures or ideas on how to make money. The reason being firstly he comes up with a new idea on how to make money every month . He only tries to venture out for about a month or two and then gives up and bells on completely and moves onto the next when it doesn’t work out. The problem with the time he spends on his projects is that he spends too little time with little effort. He focuses on the wrong things when trying to start his ventures. And he truly does not know where to start. It is not a problem that you do not know where to start but it is a problem that you do not do the research before wanting to jump into the pool. It is like an individual wanting to learn how to swim in an ocean for the first time. In the past week he has come to me telling me to buy his new shoe that he has come out with because it will “ be the next designer.” Another variety of problems with his proposal in my opinion. For one for your brand to be recognized as a designer fashion brand you need a fashion house for that brand. Whether you make your own or you join a fashion house is essential. Without a fashion house, a true fashion brand like Christian do, Gucci, Saint Laurent, and many more have fashion houses. My friend does not even know what a fashion house is. Which shows the lack of research that he has done before jumping into the pool. Because my friend has his project ready to sell. Yet he has done no marketing research on how he’s gonna move these shoes, no future teasers, no campaign, and he came out with his friend out of the blue. He is trying to charge 195 per shoe I believe. Which is a pretty high amount in these times of economic hardship for many people. He has not provided a reasonable explanation as to why he is charging this much for the shoe besides that it will be the next designer. He doesn’t realize or know that no brand is just selling you a product and they say oh it’s because it’s Balenciaga or Gucci. Gucci and Balenciaga are now established fashion empires really so of course if they charge you for $5000 for a bag it’s reasoned with it’s Gucci or Balenciaga a well established fashion house. Gucci can go into detail as to why their bag is $5000 . It is handcrafted and this material is from such foreign country. Christian Louboutin has this video where they show the customer or anyone on the Internet how their shoe is made, how it is painted and the amount of effort and work that goes into it. Not only do they justify their price by the material and handiwork they also explain how their product is revolutionary or creative or what it means or the significance. So he violates the norms of not using a logically thought out plan in pitch because anyone can start a fashion brand yes but you need the right tools and he is not using the right tools he is literally just winging it. These norms or I believe for everyone when trying to start a business. I don’t think any business that is started out wing or on some half assed plan will succeed. I believe for a business to run efficiently and well it needs to have a well thought of system behind it which his idea does not have. There are situations and when this kind of behavior may appear rational which is why I believe he thinks it’s rational. The only kind of behavior I see this kind of business plan with is with influencers who have 100s of thousands or millions of followers. I don’t know why but in a sense I feel like he believes he is an influencer but he is not he’s not have any fans of any sort. Because an influencer can do a half assed thing and hundreds of thousands or a couple thousand maybe a couple hundred people will buy because that’s how fans typically act. Labeling my friend as crazy has affected my perception of him when he does approach me with his business ventures. I have never invested in any of his business ventures despite the countless times I have been asked. While I do feel bad for not supporting his business ventures and his entrepreneurship I simply cannot allow myself to invest in a risky venture. I need a thought out plan and pitch which is not provided. This affects my interactions with him because when I am around him I try not to talk about my economic plans or goals. The reason being because either he will want to jump in on my own plans with me which I have never been a fan of. If someone is telling me about their economic plan I’d rather listen and enjoy if they invite me on I will decide if I want to accept or not but when someone is telling you about their economic plan and they do not invite you in but does not mean you can invite yourself in. To me it shows that he is very very ambitious to a dangerous level. It shows to me that his ambition is very great and that he is willing to hop on a business venture with me despite not knowing much which is dangerous. Because if given the opportunity I am more than 80% sure my business or whatever is making the income will be taken for me and under his ownership if possible. Which is not the type of person you want to go into business with unless you want to screw them over sometime in the future. However I do feel bad for having the kind of opinion that I do on my friend.

I have been buying things my whole life. The first purchase that began my spending problem when I had one I do recall however. It was my first time ever purchasing anything designer. I had never bought anything considered before in my life. I was raised upon the impression that my money's worth would never amount to enough to wear or afford such luxuries. Instead of driving me down it drove me crazy to show everyone who doubted me and family wrong. I began working alongside with my father translating his documents and making business deals for him through him. It took us years but we built up his client list and he doesn't  have to work for anyone else anymore. He is his own boss and his business only continues to grow and our finances along with. Thanks to his salary I was able to buy a palm springs Louis Vuttion mini backpack. I recall the excitement rushing through my veins when I was able to finally own the bag. To be able to do as I washed with an item I could now call mine. To know that I could afford luxury and at a young age. Unfortunately I fell in love with that rush. With the ideology that I belonged with people like the Kardashians in high society. Yet a bag means nothing neither do the clothes I wear. While they mean everything and tell one so much about an individual it's really only an illusion of what the individual wishes to be. None the less when you think you can have the life it's easy to try and buy into it when it seems so attainable.

Or in english a shrimp cocktail is a cold soup. It is pretty simple to make but in my state where I come from we are known for our seafood. My people are known for making some of the best seafood in the world. No one will give it the perfect taste like us. Especially with a plate so tricky to perfect. I come from Sinaloa, Mexico. While we are mostly known for our cartels and drug lords, we have a lot more culture. We have beautiful beaches and are right next to the ocean so our mariscos, which is what we call seafood, are always fresh. Anyone from Sinaloa is proud to be from there despite the negative views we are loud and proud. The ingredients are tomato cocktail juice, shrimp water, sacoya chiles, shrimp, diced onions, diced tomatoes, diced cucumbers, clientro, lime, and black pepper. It's not very complicated to make, it just depends on how good you are at the preparation. The sauce, shrimp, and liquids are what is going to give it its flavor. That is what many people do not know. It is a secret we from Sinaloa keep between each other. The sauce I only gave the kind of peppers we use but there are more seasonings that go with it before blending it into a sauce. That sauce along with the liquids makes the best shrimp cocktail you've ever had. I think it's concealed because there is a lot of betrayal between hispanics in the hispanic community when it comes to money.

They are taught to form a line and wait in the line. Hang their coats when they first walk and hang their bags in their cubbies. There are a variety of different toys and games that show them roles they will play out in the future. These roles that they may play out in the future one day. Like how many young girls that played in that play set kitchen are stay at home mothers cooking in a real kitchen for a real family. Even when it comes to cooking there is a socially acceptable and unacceptable way to cook. There are other things like rules that they have to follow. Which teaches the child to respect authority and rules. Which are traits that lead to a good citizen which is ideally what the school institutions want. They want to produce socially good American citizens. The child performs tasks that are given to them by an adult. Whether it makes sense to them or not they still do what is asked of them. It reminded me of a scene I saw in Orange is the New Black. Where a guard was abusing his power over an inmate. Where he forces her to do a vial thing because she had mentioned it earlier to one of her friends. You see, the prisoner is uncomfortable from the beginning. She does not want to leave the van and yet despite knowing she shouldn't. She listens to the guard and goes. Like how a student despite their teacher may be acting shady is still most likely to listen to said teacher.

Everyone I interviewed was however from the same ethnicity being Mexicans. As well as they were all white looking Mexicans. The ages range from 11 years old to 53 years old. All of the participants were asked the same 5 questions that were provided. I noticed that race is actually about color. It is literally what color you are not culture or ethnicity but the color. Ethnicity is who we are culturally where we descend from. Yet many people as well as myself thought of race as ethnicity. When in fact there is a distinction between the two. Many of my participants believed that their race was based on where they were born. They stated that they knew their race based off of relatives behaviors, way of dressing, and overall being. Which is how they also judged others. This showed me however race is socially constructed. We made groups to categorize how humans are based on color. Which makes no real sense because two folks can be the same color. One interesting thing that occured during my interviews was however when I interviewed a true Mexican who was once an immigrant. She told me she learned her race was hispanic once she came to America. She told me how in Mexico race isn't really a thing. They do not categorize the people based on their race but on their nationality. Which makes more logically sense to me. Yet I believe there's a race system in place because our forefathers had a white supremacy ideology that was expressed through christianity. Most noticeable with the portrayal of a white Jesus when he was born in the Middle East where people don't tend to be pale. Yet they need a white Jesus to encourage the ideology that if Jesus and god are white they are the "chosen" race. The race that holds power or intelligence some form of superiority over the others. In Mexico the white supremacy ideology doesn't really exist. While white complexion folks do indeed get better treatment in Mexico the institutions do not really care as much about color as do the people. Racism will probably always be around and alive but it is always going to be a problem when an institution decides to practice racism or discrimination towards anyone.

Showing how here in this culture acts that are considered homosexual in America. Are not in their tribe in fact it is a tradition. Every male must swallow an older males fluids when they hit a certain age. They practice oral rituals as well as making cavities in one's tooth worse. They believe in magical powers and forces as well. Perform rituals to acquire such powers and create magic as well. They have rites to make the skinny fat and the fat skinny. They have rituals for women with big breasts to have smaller ones and a ritual for women with smaller breasts to have breasts. They are not plastic surgeries either. I also found it so interesting how in this culture the women do not really nurse their infants. Which is such a shock since here in America a woman is almost hated if she doesn't nurse her infant. She is labeled a bad woman and a bad mom a bad person she becomes deviant. No longer to be trusted however in this culture most women if not all women hide their pregnancies and give birth alone. It is almost like looking into a parallel dimension.
