How can I design and build a shelter that reduces heat transfer and keeps my ice cube penguin from melting?

The breed of penguins we are studying is the Boulder Beach Penguins. They live on the coast of South Africa. They usually weigh 4-8 pounds and are 20 inches tall. They have a black stripe curving across chest. They can't fly , but can swim with wings. They are endangered, becoming too hot, seagulls eat their eggs, and could be eaten while going swimming. I learned that you need certain insulators to keep the ice cube cold. I also learned that they have to stay cold for them not to melt. If you had metal the heat can transfer through that easily so that would not be a good insulator.

Today we were testing different materials to see which ones could be the best insulator to keep the penguins cold and not overheat. The insulators that worked the best is the mylar, aluminum, and bubble wrap. I will apply what I learned today into our final design by using the best insulators in our project. I would use the mylar/aluminum to reflect the light off of the house. I could also use feathers and white foam ,as those where good insulators, to use on the inside to keep the penguin cool.

Our house has an aluminium foil base with mylar wrapped around that. As the floor we put bubble wrap and aluminum foil on the bottom of that. We were going to do a triangle roof but we could not figure out how to form that shape so we went for a rectangular shape instead. When we out it in the hot box the started at 7.9 and went down to 4.7. That is a 41% loss. I think that when we were putting everything together we used masking tape and that blocked some of the reflection with that. I think that the materials that we used where good and we just need to update the small stuff.

We changed all the tape to hot glue so that there is more of an reflective surface to the outside of the car. We also re designed the door so it closes more tightly and is easier to open and close. We added popsicle sticks on the inside walls to add more insulation on the inside. I think that since we changed all the tape from glue it made more holes for heat to go inside. I also think that since we added more insulation on the inside and a better door it also helped. We had a 36% loss in our penguin which was less than last time.
