In Production Techniques class with Sam Coveney, we discussed use of panning and the consideration of frequency range in stereo image design.
This also relates to EQ and mixing, by creating space for each component to create a clean mix.
I found it very helpful to have a visual representation of this to apply to my project.

Art of Remix Task for this week to remix an acapella supplied by Jack. 
New skills I wanted to experiment with:
1.  Using arpeggiator to create drive/movement
2. Pitch shifter plug in to create harmonies. 3rds and 5ths. 
3. Duplicating the vocal line, adding phaser to one and panning them hard left and right to add width. (discussed in production techniques class the week)
4. Jack gave us some stems to experiment with in our first art of the remix class. Here is a bounce of my first time exploring remixing. I used the keys, saxophone and vocal sample from the original track, and used a splice.com drum break to build a drum part. 
I wanted to experiment with techniques I learnt over the break such as sidechain compression 'Phantom pulse' and chopping samples and staggering them to create delay effects which I panned alternately to play with the use of space. 

I really enjoyed this as a first run at remixing. A common technique in Low-fi music is to use an atmospheric sample (traffic or oceans for example) to add context to a song. It helps transport the listener to a location as well as adding more texture to the track. I really wanted to include a sample when it started to rain I put my condenser microphone next to the window to capture the rain hitting the glass.
