Hamlet is very cerebral, so I would also want someone who can appreciate Hamlet's propensity to analyze and over-think -- someone on whose face the audience could register genuine depth of thought and depth of feeling. Subtlety would also be a strength for the actor playing Hamlet, since he needs to allow for the audience to doubt his madness.
