This includes inspecting the conditions inside the prison as well as the treatment of those staying inside. This inspection was carried out between 1 - 12 of July 2019. This inspection comes 2 years after the prison was last inspected. 

Notable features found from the inspection: 
• A third of prisoners said that they felt unsafe.
• Over half of the prisoners agreed it was easy to get contraband, especially drugs inside the prison.
• 67% of prison officers at work had less than 2 years of experience.
• Only 65% of the population had access to sufficient activity places. 
• About 400 of the inmates were housed in overcrowded cells.

From the inspection the prison was given recommendations on what they should work on. The main recommendations was to focus on the reduction of violence and illegal drug supply.

As a result of the inspection and recommendations ths prison improved on some aspects of how it is run ect.

Some of the things that the prison achieved/improved on were:
• Quickly disembarking prisoners from transport vehicles once at the location.
• The prison implemented better adult safeguarding procedures.
• Individual care and reintegration plans were implemented across the prison. These are used to address the needs of segregated prisoners.
• The prison introduced a comprehensive needs analysis and developed a substance misuse support service to help those prisoners in need.

The IOPC is a non-departmentmental body that has been had these roles since 8 January 2018

However the two officers involved were later found not guilty of assault following a trial at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday 9 September.
